Opened in 1952, this was the first, purpose built, "Airport Animal Hostel" in the world, and copied by the American SPCA, in 1954, at "JFK" airport New York, USA.
The Hostel was built on a "truly rural" site for which they paid a "peppercorn" rent of one shillng (5p) a year.
