It's going to be a scorcher with temperatures rising to a whopping 34C in some areas of the UK. The heat is on to spread the message, share our post to help us save a dog's life. #DogsDieInHotCars, please call 999 if you see a dog alone in a car this weekend! #HeatWave2019

Later today The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill will be published showing that the maximum sentence for animal cruelty will rise ten fold, from six months to five years.

Anyone remember Rocco, our broken hearted Doberman?
Well here is a little update for you. Look at that happy face ūüėć This is one of the best parts of our job!
... I can tell you that Rocco is doing well on medication for his Dilated Cardiomyopathy heart condition and is absolutely loving his new life!
He has a lovely interesting life with a completely adoring foster family. He has a female Doberman companion, he loves going down to the yard to see the horses and is happy pottering around the farmyard.
But his favourite thing seems to be galloping around the fields and then snoozing on his chosen sofa in the lounge.
Rocco is in a permanent foster home, where we provide everything for his medical needs for the rest of his life. And we hope, that as we caught his Cardiomyopathy in its early stages, that it is a long life ūüźĺūüźĺūü§ě

###28/06 Thank you to those who have enquired about JAck - we'll be going through applications over the next few days. Thanks for your patience ##### Here we have Jack, a very clever 9 month old male Cocker Spaniel type.
... Because Jack is an intelligent, busy chap he has already been in three homes - all within the same family - but none of them could meet his needs, so he is here with us to find his perfect match.
I will post a video later and you can see Jack at work with his nose. He is very driven to use it. We have had him assessed for police or prison service work, but he was not deemed confident enough.
So an unconfident, highly intelligent, driven spaniel is not a dog for the average pet owner, so we are looking for quite a specific home.
Jacks new person will need to be an experienced dog owner, who enjoys outdoor dog sports or activities and dog training who has the time and energy Jack will need invested in him.
Currently Jack could be described as 'hyper' and 'stressy', but this has to be taken in context of what he has been through in his short life and where he finds himself currently in kennels. Also the fact that he is driven and intelligent, but has not had the means to exercise these talents. It has left him struggling to settle himself and feeling insecure. In addition to using his talents though, he does also need to learn/be taught how to self settle, as over stimulation can be as detrimental to his well being as no stimulation.
But, he has so much potential in the right hands. He is such a good boy and offers lots of great behaviours when you work one to one with him. But he is a work in progress and needs commitment, consistency and a predictable routine to give him the best chance of becoming the best dog he can be.
If you feel you may be his perfect match, please get in touch. Complete our online form and tell us about yourself https://form.jotformeu.com/40501581675352
Jack has lived with a cat, and is fairly neutral around other dogs, he has lived with a child, but we feel older teens or an adult only family will suit him best.
He will need to be returned to us for neutering when we feel it would be most appropriate for him. He is vaccinated, worm and flea treated, microchipped and will come with 4 weeks free pet insurance. Adoption fee £195 and home visit apply.

############# APPLICATIONS CLOSED ##################################### Bumble is an 7 month old, male French Bulldog x Lhasa Apso looking for a new home through no fault of his own.
Bumble is a happy, playful character living in a multi dog and cat foster home currently.
He is a typical puppy and needs lots of time and attention from his adopter. He is busy being house trained at the moment, and being taught basic obedience, but will definitely benefit from going to traini...ng classes so he develops into a well mannered adult dog.
Training with him should be fun as he is food and toy motivated (and I'm told also loves to shred paper - not quite so desirable behaviour :D )
Bumble is friendly and affectionate and can also live with children aged 8+ years old.
Bumble cannot be left for a few hours at this age, but not all day, or all day with a pop home at lunchtime.
Bumble also needs to come back to us at the appropriate time for neutering (he has a retained testicle - so it's a bigger surgery) and he'll be micro chipped, worm and flea treated and will come with 4 weeks free pet insurance.
To apply please complete our online form ############# APPLICATIONS CLOSED #####################################
We''ll look at applications in the coming days, so please can we ask for your patience.
Adoption fee £250 and home visit apply.

##### 03/07 Only Syd has been reserved, so still 4 lovely Lurchers waiting a home offer ##############
Here are 4 of 5 Lurchers that have arrived into our care.
We have 3 boys and two girls.
... They came into our care via the Police and RSPCA Chief Inspector having apparently been left in a van that was due to be crushed.
They are all lovely with nice characters. The 5th boy (not pictured) is very nervous though and we're working on building his confidence.
They are between 1 and 4 years old.
Rear - Syd a sweet, underweight lad. He arrived clipped but will be rough coated.
Middle left - Zoe the oldest of the group, she has been used for breeding and will be spayed shortly.
Middle right - Alice - she was the most forward of the group and is the youngest at just over a year. She is very affectionate and friendly.
Front - Reggie - he seems to be the goofy one and loves to throw a toy around and lounge on the raised beds.
We're still getting to know them, and watching their characters emerge, and will update more as we have any info.
As they are strays any children should be 12+ years old and no cats or small furries as they may have been used for coursing.
If you'd like to adopt please complete the online form https://form.jotformeu.com/40501581675352
They will be fully vaccinated, worm and flea treated, neutered, microchipped and will come with 4 weeks free pet insurance. Adoption fee £195.

##### REHOMED TOGETHER :) ########### Flossie (on quilt) and Jack (on grass) are 13 year old and 10 year old mother and son Jack Russells, looking for a home as their elderly owner sadly died.
They are an affectionate pair with people and Jack gets on particularly well with other dogs.
They are in a multi dog foster home at the moment and are both setting in really well. Jack is more lively and playful, especially with the other dogs. Flossie has taken on the 'fun police' r...ole though and does try and stop his shenanigans!
Obviously, we'd like to keep them together as they are a bonded pair, but if absolutely necessary we will have to consider separating them if it the only way to find them a home. Hopefully we won't have to though.
Flossie and Jack are used to having their person around most of the day, so cannot be left for lengthy periods. They are not cat tested.
They are both booked in for dental work and Jack will be neutered next week too.
To apply for them please complete our online adoption form at the following link https://form.jotformeu.com/40501581675352

I'm sure most of our regular followers will have heard of the incredible work one of our former pups, Rolo, does in the community pat.rolo Rolo the rescue therapy dog
I've known his adopter, Claire, for quite a few years and followed their work together, but reading this article actually brought tears to my eyes so I had to share to our readers.
They are a truly amazing partnership, so giving and so kind, bringing light into people's lives during the darkest of times. ... <3 <3 <3

##### REHOMED TOGETHER :) ########### SPECIAL APPEAL FOR GOLDEN OLDIE ODD COUPLE!!
Maisie (Lab) and Kofi (JRT) are a really delightful, sweet old couple looking for a foster or forever home please!
They've had ZERO interest since they arrived and we don't have a foster to place them with currently either.
... They are an affectionate, bonded couple so need to go together. Maisie has arthritis and is on medication (and a diet!) which we can help support with if adopted, both have had dentals and are ready to go to a home!
They are 12/13 years old, Kofi still active and enjoys playing and walks, Maisie is on shorter spells of regular exercise whilst she loses some weight and we manage her arthritis.
Only with us due to their owners eviction, they are fine around other dogs, have been around visiting grandchildren, they are house trained, travel well (untested with cats).
Please share for us, they really adore human companionship and are too old to be in kennels on their own long term.
Adopters - we can offer support financially with Maisie's medication
Fosters - need to be local to our district ideally (SS0 -SS12) and be able to get to our vets in Southend if needed. All their health needs/food etc will be paid for whilst in foster care.

#### REHOMED ######## Ok so, when I arrived at kennels to take some photos of puppy Bailey, I had had a shower, put my make up on and I had brushed my hair.
By the time, I left I had zero make up, I had been peed on and generally looked like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards. If all of the above hadn‚Äôt been gifted to me with such joy and enthusiasm by the lovely Bailey, I would not have left quite so happy!ūüźĺūüźĺ
And you know, Head Office have 'advice' to follow for t...aking photos of our animals. Body shot, face shot, no people preferably, loose lead, not blurred etc etc. Well, guess what, Bailey did NOT get the memo! Over 400 snaps later and these are the best of them‚Ķ..ūüėāūüėā
But what a joy he was to hang out with! A delightful young pup, (7 months old male crossbreed of medium size). Initially very excited and all over the place, but after he settled I literally could not get him off my lap! He has such a lot of love to give. He comes with little history, and it seems he may of been passed around quite a bit, so his new person should be around a fair bit initially to help him settle in and get used to his new home and routine.
We’re still getting to know him, but all initial signs are good, he is still young so needs all his basic training and a calm, consistent, patient adopter willing to start from scratch. But his nature is such that we are sure he will mature into a lovely companion. He has lived in a multi dog household previously.
Children should be aged 10 plus please, Bailey is not cat tested either. He will be vaccinated, worm and flea treated, microchipped and will come with 4 weeks free insurance. At the appropriate age he will need to be returned to be neutered too.
Please call 07749 175023 to enquire between 10am and 4pm only.

It was absolutely lovely to see so many of our dogs at the Belfairs Dog Show, organised by Essex Wildlife Trust today.
Many are permanent foster dogs, who we were unable to rehome due to complex health issues. So we'll support them for the rest of their lives.
We met so many people who were unaware our volunteer run branch even existed, so it was great to raise awareness of our work in the local community.
... Special thanks to all our volunteers and foster carers who came to support the branch, including pat.rolo Rolo the rescue therapy dog and his guardian who worked so tirelessly today promoting our branch!

Not long, is too long.
No one ever thinks it will happen to them. Jonathan certainly didn't think it would happen to him and his three dogs. He is now speaking out about his terrible mistake to prevent others from doing the same.
