We don't have many cats for adoption at the moment but that doesn't mean we aren't busy behind the scenes! We have many cats like Lady Grey here who came to us extremely poorly and need lots of additional vet care before we can put them up for adoption 😽
Lady Grey was found in Preston by a member of the public in mid November in a terrible state, it seems she had been in a serious road traffic accident. With no identification or microchip the Preston RSPCA kindly came to her ...rescue and funded costly surgery to repair a broken jaw and remove a ruptured eye. Lady Grey then came over to us for recuperation where she was admitted to the vets for several days to help manage her pain relief and be syringe fed until she regained her appetite. A week after her surgery she was feeling much better and went into foster care with volunteers Jen and Reb (first picture is her on arrival at their home).
Since then Lady Grey has gone from strength to strength and is clearly starting to feel better (see second picture). She's now in the habit of treading on Jen's face in the morning when she wants her to get up! She's also eating really well now, although her jaw is still healing and she has a way to go yet before she will be ready for adoption.
We can only help animals like Lady Grey thanks to our amazing foster homes and your support, so thank you!

Trevor is a little superstar and truly stolen our hearts! He is a young, small boar around 8 to 9 months old who has been castrated on 21st November. He was signed over to RSPCA care from a home that could no longer cope with the volume of guinea pigs they had ended up with after mis-sexing led to over-breeding. Unlike many of his former house mates Trevor is a confident little chap.
Trevor is ruled by his belly. He just loves his grub and overcomes any shyness for a snack o...n his favourite veg. When you go to pick Trevor up he never runs away, he just sits and let's us scoop him up. He is such a sweet lad and will make an ideal companion to a single female, pair, or herd of girls. He's just a really easy going character and is only on his own because he was living with a female so we had to separate them to prevent any further reproduction.
We are really keen to find Trevor new female piggy pal(s). Whilst they cannot be physically introduced until 6 weeks post castration (2nd Jan 2019) the longer they start living side by side the better. The minimum size housing for two pigs is 152cm x 60cm or 4 x 2 c and c cage. If you live locally we will be able to loan you his cage. If you can offer Trev a home please get in touch today, he needs piggy lady friends!
If you would like to adopt Trevor contact us today! Email rspcamcr_salford@btconnect.com or call 0161 882 0680.

Bear and Bandit are two stunning boars who were abandoned outside an RSPCA animal centre in South Yorkshire. With no facilities at the centre to house guinea pigs they were transferred into our care.
The boys have been examined by an exotic vet specialist. They have been estimated at around 6 to 8 months of age, in good health and previously been castrated. We can only assume that the owner must have been very desperate to have given up these two boys given that they'd have... paid quite a lot of money to have them neutered.
Bear and Bandit have grown quite a bit since coming into our care both physically and emotionally, but they are timid boys who are yet to wheek with excitement when we get veggies out but do now popcorn when they're feeling happy. This is what their foster family have to say about them:
"Bear and Bandit were very timid when they first came to us and it has taken a while for them to become relaxed around us. They are now taking food from our hands. Bandit can often be found following Bear around and both like to cuddle up together. When it's playtime the house, tunnel and trays are rearranged and sometimes even tipped over as they popcorn round the cage. The boys don't like a lot of fuss but will happily sit on your lap and get comfy."
We are looking to rehome the boys indoors in an enclosure that is 6ft by 2ft or similar, or 5 by 2 C&C cage. They will be ideally suited to home that have had guinea pigs before and who will spend time gaining their trust and will enjoy watching them develop.
If you would like to adopt the boys contact us today! Email rspcamcr_salford@btconnect.com or call 0161 882 0680.

Fallon came into our care in August. She instantly made herself right at home in her foster carer's home and adjusted to her change in life very quickly. She was signed over to our care after unexpectedly having a litter of 6 babies. She was underweight and the babies were not thriving as a result. Her milk dried up sooner than usual, most likely due to her condition, and the whole family needed a lot of extra care. However, Fallon shone the whole time and took everything in ...her stride and spent many a happy hour eating and pottering. Now separated from her babies and neutered she is ready to find a forever home.
Fallon is canny lady and will happily entertain you if it means they'll be food at the end of it (during and after!). She is inquisitive and keen to know what you are up to but at times is hand shy and much needs you respect this and interact with her on her terms. She enjoys plenty of space to play about and we think given how good she was with her babies she will likely appreciate being bonded with a neutered male companion. The only time Fallon gets upset is when she is picked up. Being lifted off the ground truly unnerves her so interactions need to be kept on her level, but training her to go into carrier will be a piece of cake with her appetite!
Fallon has been neutered, microchipped and received both the combi and RHD2 vaccinations. She can live indoors or out, but if the latter she must be paired with a neutered male companion.
If you would like to adopt Fallon contact us today! Email rspcamcr_salford@btconnect.com or call 0161 882 0680

Stitch is a lovely adult beardie that came into our care after being picked up as a stray by a member of the public. They took her to a local vet but they had no facilities for exotic animals and contacted the RSPCA. The first thing you notice about Stitch is the fact she’s missing her tail! Once moved to an exotic specialist vet, Stitch was diagnosed with a necrotic tail and as a result she required surgery to amputate the dead tissue and prevent further infection. She has a...lso been treated for internal parasites whilst in our care.
Fast forward a few months and Stitch is as good as new! Her stump has practically healed and her recovery has been fantastic so she’s now waiting for a forever home to come her way. Stitch has two loves in life; her food and her water bowl! She loves nothing more than jumping into her bowl and splashing around or chasing the food around her viv. She eats really well, both her veg and her live food, and often sits by her bowl waiting for us to give her a little bit extra!
She is happy to be handled and is a really inquisitive dragon. Stitch is going to make a wonderful addition to the right family. Stitch will require a vivarium with a minimum length of 120cm, 60cm height and 60cm depth will be required. There needs to be a thermal gradient of 38-42 at the warm end and 22-26 at the cool end. Temperatures must be controlled using a thermostat and a 10-12% UV bulb must also be provided.
If you are interested in adopting Stitch or would like more information about her, please call 0161 480 4754 or email stockport-adoption-centre@rspca.org. uk

Updates! Cat Belle and rabbits Toffee & Pudding have new homes.
Cyril the guinea pig is reserved :)
We have lots of new baby female rats now available for adoption too, they will be added to the website and FB album shortly! Apparently it's extremely hard to photo rats, this is my favourite attempt! πŸ˜‚

Barry bunny is a glossy coated young chap around 4 to 5 months old. He came into our care back in June along with a dozen other bunnies. Many others were also taken from the home where breeding was out of control. Poor Barry had received little in the way of socialization and the world clearly seemed quite a scary place to him when he first arrived. We've given Barry plenty of time to settle and get used to a routined life. He is still a shy boy but enjoys playing and explori...ng and the tasty treats we offer!
Barry will be best suited to live outdoors where he can enjoy life on his own terms. We think he will make a lovely companion to a female bunny and prove to be a loving, gentle boy to her. Barry has been neutered and microchipped and received both the combi and RHD2 vaccinations. Barry will likely gain in more confidence once settled in a permanent home and paired with a pal. We just hope there is somebunny out there who will give him a chance.
If you would like to adopt Barry contact us today! Email rspcamcr_salford@btconnect.com or call 0161 882 0680.

Beryl came into our care back in June from a home where breeding had got out of control. She had spent her life living with her sister and raising their multiple litters together and we were told they were the best of friends. Once in our care we monitored them closely and found that they spent as much time as possible avoiding each other, they were stressed living together and as a result each developed ear mites. After a period treatment we are pleased to report that Beryl ...is back up to full health and happily enjoying life independently from her sister.
Beryl is a large bunny who generally likes to be left to her own devices. She would be ideally suited to outdoor living and although she is nearly 4 years old it would be great to see her paired with a placid, neutered male companion. She likes to do all the bunny things you'd expect, pottering, exploring and playing. She is a fantastic hay eater and we keep her weight down by sticking to a hay and veggies diet only.
Beryl has been neutered and microchipped and has received both the combi vaccination and VHD2 vaccination. She will benefit from a slow, gradual approach to bonding as well plenty of time and patience from her new owner. Beryl is a beauty who just hasn't had the best of life. Please helps us to make it her time to shine.
If you would like to adopt Beryl contact us today! Email rspcamcr_salford@btconnect.com or call 0161 882 0680

Check out our dinky little Dennis! Dennis came into our care following a large scale rescue where many guinea pigs were signed into RSPCA care as breeding had got out of control. He is smooth coat crested ginger and white piggy and is approximately 5 weeks old. He’ll be ready for adoption from the 26 November and is looking for a home either with one of his male siblings (Hedgehog & Alistair) or to be paired with a lonely adult male guinea pig already in the home. The branch ...will pay for him to be neutered at our exotic vet in Chorlton once he is old enough at roughly 5-6 months of age. We neuter all our male piggies to insure that in future they can be more easily paired with females if they become bereaved.
Dennis is the smallest of the three brothers and as cute as a button! Like his brothers he loves his grub and hay and has a great appetite. He would prefer to live indoors in a large set up (min 6ft x 2ft for 2 males) but could live outdoors in a shed or sheltered environment. If you could offer our boy a home with a sibling or an adult male please get in touch. We offer full advice and support on introducing guinea pigs.
If you would like to adopt Dennis contact us today! Email rspcamcr_salford@btconnect.com or call 0161 882 0680.

Described by our staff as a hunk, young Basil is looking for a home where he can wow you with his personality and fluffy good looks. He is one of 40 animals to come from a multi pet household. We estimate Basil to be around one year old but he could be a little older.
He is a calm chap who sits patiently at the bars of his pen when he sees us arrive. When we open the pen door he just stays put to say hello, secretly hoping we have some veggies to share. He is a docile chap w...ho is calm when we health check him each week and appreciates the herbs we give him as a reward for his time and co-operation! Basil is a good natured bunny who we'd love to see paired with a neutered female. Alas we fear his black colouring will go against him and he will be overlooked just like the other 5 black rabbits in our care. It's so sad because it's personality that counts, right?
Basil has been neutered, microchipped and received both the combi and RHD2 vaccination. To adopt from us please make sure your bunny has had both vaccinations too. Basil is suitable to live indoors or out and will be fine around children of primary school age.
If you would like to adopt Basil contact us today! Email or call 0161 882 0680

We've just adopted two lovely cats (sisters), whose owner has gone into a residential home. Susie & Sally (now called Cilla & Dusty οΏ½) are doing great! The ladies at the RSPCA have been fantastic: really helpful & thoughtful, which has made the process so very easy. Thank you.

User

We recently adopted a kitten called Rascal and Susie from the branch was more than helpful and kind through the adoption process. Rascal has been with us for 2 days now and settled in perfectly. Great match for us and we know up until now he has been very well looked after! Thank you all again for everything οΏ½ οΏ½

User

We received wonderful service from the Manchester & Salford RSPCA when we adopted our two kittens in December 2014. The kitties had been so well looked after by the foster carer and we were given some very useful advice about how to look after them ourselves. Well worth the cost too as both of them were neutered, chipped and vaccinated when we brought them home. Thanks for all the hard work from the team.

User

We had a fantastic experience with this RSPCA team . Our adopted cat is lovely if not a bit naughty :) Process was clear and simple and it was easy to see the team really cared about each of the cats they were looking after.

User

Very helpful and informative staff who do the very best for the animals in their care (so please don't take offence if the location of your house or something doesn't meet required standards - it's not you, it's always the animals who come first).

User

Took 2 ferrets to be microchipped and everyone was so lovely and nice, the people here are very friendly

User

Today we found a pigeon with broken wing in our garden around 4 pm. We called a veterinary clinic but were told they had no facilities for birds and that it would be put down. Then we called you guys and Joe picked him up at 7 ish pm. He was very gentle with it. Poor little thing was in obvious distress. We just want to thank you for a great job.

Thank you. Sonia and Jim.

User

These guys are amazing! I met Deb and Susie to collect my rescue rat and they were so warm, friendly, and it was lovely to meet such dedicated people who are devoted to the animals they care for. They are honest, know all there is to know, and made the whole process a joy. It can be painful adopting an animal as they have been through creulty and you always want to take home all the animals at the rescue, but these RSPCA folks gave me real hope that the ratties they care for were going to have a great life. Am so happy I travelled all the way up to Manchester and so happy I adopted little Wendell. You're doing a fantastic (very difficult) job!

User

The process of adopting Clara the cat has been so straightforward from start to finish and the staff and volunteers we've been in contact with have been very helpful and informative (Susie, Catherine and Angela - thank you all). Most of our questions were answered before we'd even asked them and the descriptions of the cats on the website were an excellent starting point - I kept spotting other RSPCA cats in Clara's cattery and I felt like I knew them all! I'd thoroughly recommend getting in touch with the branch to anyone thinking of adopting.

We now have a very content little cat on our hands - actually asleep on my lap as I'm typing this!

User

Thanks so much to the branch for helping me and my partner adopt our lovely, cuddly, playful cat Lily. The process was easy, nothing was too much trouble and our cat now has her forever home. Highly recommended.

User

Many people seem to mistake this local rehoming charity for the Greater Manchester animal hospital or the national RSPCA, hence some misguided bad reviews. I've adopted 3 cats from this rehoming charity and I've had nothing but brilliant experiences. If you're thinking of adopting an animal I would highly recommend that you do so from this branch. Not only will you be rescuing an animal, your animal will be microchipped, neutered and vaccinated for a much lower price than if you were to arrange these procedures yourself. They offer friendly advice in the run up to the adoption, and afterwards. They have gone above and beyond for me, giving me advice and help when my cat went missing, and supporting me to introduce a new cat to my existing ones. Please remember that most of the staff are unpaid volunteers spending much of their free time trying to secure the best possible lives for local animals, and fundraising tirelessly, all for the love of animals. We are lucky this charity exists, please support them if you can.

User

Lovely people doing brilliant work for stray and abandoned animals in Manchester and Salford. We adopted a trio of feral kittens from them, and they were helpful every step of the way--pre- and post-adoption. The kittens are doing brilliantly, and we are so happy and lucky to have them in our lives!

User

I’ve recently adopted a young cat from the Rspca she’s a pleasure thank you for taking such good care of her οΏ½

User

I have not yet met the staff yet but i know they are great people, I got a call back to let me know that Fizzy had found a new home. I got to come and say Hi One day, I dont drive and travel will take ages for me but for the life and rehoming of a cat I am willing to travel across the region. :)

User

I can't rate the Manchester and Salford branch high enough. They answered all of our silly questions and really helped us. They know all of their cats inside out and that makes it so much easier to pair them to the best owners. That was certainly the case with us and Toby. All of the cats are very happy and well looked after. They do amazing work and I would recommend anyone to support this branch and give one of their cats a well deserved home. Thanks so much everyone for helping us find Toby!

User

I adopted Tamara who is now poppy last year around April time, the staff we're great and provided so much help and support especially when it came to bonding with our rabbit pipkin, who at first was not displaying positive behaviours. They are still happily married and love to snuggle up to each other, currently their favourite spot is the bottom shelf of the bookcase! ☺️

User

I adopted Lily, a 3yr old cat from the RSPCA in May 2016. The process was thorough, the staff friendly and helpful and best of all it was quick because once we'd met Lily we wanted her home with us! It took exactly 7 days from start to finish. Lily is the love of my life!

User

I adopted Irma (was Cuddles) 3 weeks ago. From first phone call, through visiting the cattery, through my home visit and finally collecting Irma, I was impressed & encouraged by everyone involved. The care , love & respect for all animals is evident both in person and in the care taken over the wonderful animal descriptions (which I love!). Would recommend anyone wanting a pet to adopt, and to adopt from these wonderful people.

User

Could not recommend RSPCA Manchester highly enough. We recently adopted our amazing cat and Susie and her whole team were so kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and the process was straightforward and stress free. The excellent write ups on the animals are particularly helpful especially if you have specific requirements. Also thanks to the Tameside branch who did the home check as we were out of area.

We saw a number of other cats in the cattery and they are all so well cared for and lovely.

Please consider adopting if you are looking for a new furry addition.
