About Rspca Sheffield Branch

The RSPCA Sheffield Branch is a rehabilitation and rehoming centre for cats and dogs. We are separate to the National RSPCA and reliant on local support.

Rspca Sheffield Branch Description

The RSPCA Sheffield Branch is a separately registered charity to the National RSPCA which is based in Horsham, Sussex.

Although we receive some support from the National RSPCA we have to generate all our own running costs ourselves, through local fundraising in the Sheffield area. We do not receive any funding from the government or local authority. The Sheffield branch of the RSPCA is run by volunteer trustees and costs over £2000 per day to run. This money has to be raised in the Sheffield area only, by staff and volunteers through fund raising, donations and legacies.

We rehome over 500 animals per year from our centre, all of which have come to us further to rescue from cruelty or neglect, or that their owners are no longer able to care for them. Our job is to rehabilitate, retrain and rehome these animals and to raise the funds to do so.

The RSPCA Sheffield Branch, based in Attercliffe is made up of:

-The Sheffield Animal Centre which rehomes unwanted, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs. We neuter, vaccinate and microchip every dog and cat which comes to the Centre.

- Our Charity shops, situated around Sheffield are a vital source of regular income for the centre. We have shops in Broomhill, Chapeltown, Woodseats and our Second Hand Superstore in Darnall which sell second hand goods and furniture. We offer a free furniture collection service.

We never put an animal to sleep unless advised to do so by a vet, to prevent further suffering or for severe aggression to people.

Meet our gallant and handsome hero, Zorro! He came into RSPCA care as part of a welfare investigation and now several months on, this gorgeous lad is hoping to put his past firmly behind him and start afresh down in smashing Sheffield.
This boy will capture your heart in an instant, he can make even the dullest of days bright, with his silly, goofy antics. A real gentle giant, Zorro loves people and enjoys nothing better than fun and games in the garden followed by lots of lo...ve and cuddles.
When Zorro first entered RSPCA care he was suffering from really sore, painful itchy skin and sore hips but thanks to some treatment from the vets he is doing much better. He will need regular medicated baths and ongoing medication for his joints to keep him comfortable, happy and pain free.
Zorro seems to really enjoy meeting other dogs when out and about so may be able to live with another canine companion. Any existing dog must be tolerant and happy to share their home with this giant pup as he can be a little silly at times, but we also have to consider our boy's sensitive hips.
We are looking for a home for Zorro where his new family will be around most of the time. This big guy forms incredibly strong bonds with his favourite people and isn't confident being left alone. He may be suitable to live with children of secondary school age who are happy and confident around big bouncy dogs and who are able to get involved with Zorro's care and routine.
Could you offer this gorgeous boy a new life? Find out more about him here: http://ow.ly/UVuT30nC2PL

Sandy is a shy and super handsome boy who is looking for a new home after his loving owner sadly passed away. He needs to really know and trust you before you see his true personality - but he really is a total sweetheart. Could you offer him a new life? http://ow.ly/PxFE30nC3Rg

The RSPCA and British Veterinary Association have joined forces to call on the UK Government to change the law that permits animals to be slaughtered without pre-stunning, causing unnecessary pain and suffering. Find out more and add your voice here: http://ow.ly/95fy30nC1Dz

Meet Maxwell - isn't he a cutie! This young, fun, loving, energetic and excitable young fellow came to us due a change in his owners circumstances. He can be a little unsure and worried when he first meets new people but we've found that food is definitely the way to this guys heart.
This boy finds everything fascinating, he is super eager to learn and he loves doing tasks which keep his mind busy. He'd love an active home where he will be able to take part in lots of fun ac...tivities.
He still has much to learn and he easily becomes overexcited so patience, positive reinforcement and consistency will be key in his new home, to help him to continue to learn skills, develop and grow. He would benefit from training classes with his new family.
Maxwell is still only a baby and he needs help to learn that being left alone is okay. He is both food and toy motivated and will do just about anything for a tasty reward or a lovely game and we are keen for him to keep up with this training in the new home.
He may be happy living with children of primary school age who are and confident and used to being around bouncy dogs. We'd arrange several meetings to ensure everyone is happy before moving in together.
Maxwell enjoys meeting new doggy friends when out although, his play is very puppy like and can be over the top and some dogs find him a bit much. He may be suitable to live with another tolerant and friendly dog.
Can you offer this sweet boy a wonderful new life? See his adoption page here: http://ow.ly/vO1U30nC2lv

We can't believe that the beautiful Betty Lou Who still hasn't been chosen. This shy but super sweet girlie has been the best mummy to her little ones but now they no longer need her, she deserves some serious "me" time. <3 http://ow.ly/Xg2K30nBa2F #RescueCat #Sheffield

Yesterday my partner and I adopted one of the kittens from the shelter. They were absolutely fabulous from start to finish! They answered all questions and queries, which settled any worries we had. They worked really quickly to get a home inspector out even though we aren’t very local. We now have our beautiful kitten purring away and I know if I have any worries I can call up and we’ll be supported.

Would just like to tell people what an amazing team you have. As I came to you to see a cat I'd seen on the Internet, I liked him & put a deposit on him, but because I don't live in your area (I'm from Nottingham area) you couldn't arrange a home visit straight away. You did your best though, I got my home visit 10 days later & on the day you are closed to public, you rang to sort out an appointment to pick him up.

User

What an amazing place with such amazing people! We got our adorable and clumsy dog from here and I couldn't have been happier with the service provided by all staff from the desk staff to the handlers and managers! 10 out of 10 for everything!

User

We had never visited the sheffield branch before and they did things a lot differently to our local one. However they were fantastic from start to finish, the lovely kennel hands were so good with us as were all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They made sure that our current dog got along well with the new one and we had opportunity to integrate them prior to taking him home. When he needed treatment they arranged appointments for us straight away and was on hand for advice. Great staff, great place. Thank god tbey are there for the unfortunate animals who find themselves needing tbeir love and care. Xx

We adopted our baby, formally known as Turnip now known as Samson, 6 years ago this January. He has changed our lives so much. Classed as a 'medium'dog but turned out to be a mini but wouldn't change him for the world! RSPCA Sheffield helped us when he had to be tested for pinball and they have kindly helped with behaviour training since. You have changed our lives and still continued to help along the way. Thank you all xxx

The staff at the Sheffield animal centre are an absolute credit to the RSPCA name. They were lovely and friendly with us right from the start, and they knew our Ed like the back of their hand - all his positive traits and all his negative traits, they were very forthcoming with his issues and training needs. They were vigorous with checking our home, our lifestyle, if we could handle him and if our other dog Daisy would get along with him. I've seen some negative reviews mostly based around people not being suitable to adopt, please remember these guys are experts at what they do. They know the dogs stressors and triggers and only want what is best for them. If you're not a suitable match for one they have many others desperately needing a loving home and are willing to help you find a match. All animals big or small, old or young deserve to know love and I cannot thank them enough for the work, time and patience they've had with Ed. He is now a very happy and very loved little (big) lad #adoptdon'tshop

RSPCA have been brilliant throughout the adoption process of Pie and Peas (now called Galaxia and Nebula). They've answered any questions that I asked and they've been very informative and friendly throughout every visit to their premises. I can happily say that I get to officially adopt these two girls on Tuesday and they're progressing lovely here; they're following me around and seem very settled and comfortable. I even woke up with Galaxia pummeling my duvet before falling asleep this morning. Looking forward to updating you all with more progress throughout our time together. Thank you so much for giving me the chance to bring these two lovely ladies into my family.

User

Our RSPCA are fantastic and work so hard each and every day. They've taken in quite alot of stray and injured cats off me and also sick kittens that would have otherwise died as they were born outside and were very sick. Thankfully in this country we have such a thing as the RSPCA because without them and their hard work and dedication so many more animals would suffer. Keep up the good work guys your all amazing and without you were would we be? X your all fantastic x

Myself and my partner have just finished the one month trial adoption for Ember Moon and the RSPCA have been brilliant. They were happy to answer any questions and accommodated us visiting Ember every day for a week until the home visit was done and we could take her home. She has settled in amazingly with our existing pets and doesn't let her poor vision hold her back! I'll try and post a picture of her in her new home. A big thank you to the whole team!

User

I would just like to say that Sheffield rspca were amazing through the adoption of our little kittens. Sadly we were let down by bawtry rspca. Who were less than interested in helping us get them. Thank you to all the staff at Sheffield who chased up bawtry (4 times) to help get us our kittens! They are now settling in after 2 days of running round exploring. Thank you again!

User

I have just adopted my little sweetheart from here what a wonderful collection of people the staff are they have been on hand for all our questions and worries. I am so lucky to have been given the opportunity to rescue my special little girl. The staff work so hard reabillitating the animals thankyou to you all for making it possible for my baby to have a new start in life.

User

Can you please advise me as twice sadly in the last 6 months I have witnessed serious abuse of a dog. I have tried to contact the RSPCA but have failed to get through to your Call Centre. When you are out in public you don't know where the abuser lives and they get very aggressive when challenged, it is a very difficult situation and the police aren't interested in attending ( what if it were a child we we were talking about!) What can you advise? Can the local branch help and what number do I ring,? I have the incidents that I have seen and tried to report constantly on my mind. The Dog Warden does his best.

User

All the staff are friendly and easy to talk to. They always have their animals best interests at ❤️ and do their all to ensure all the poor abused animals that they get in are assessed appropriately and rehabilitated to the highest standard... mwah love you all xxxxxx ur amaze balls!!!

User

Adopted our baby Easter (now Kiki) from the rspca yesterday and the work that they do there is amazing. Animals very well looked after and and a very big thankyou to all the hard work that you do! Its not even been 24 hours since we took her home and my husband and I couldn't imagine the home without her! She's so funny, loving, cute and settled straight in! Anybody looking to adopt from the rspca, look no further!

User

Absolute perfect rescue centre, from my first meet and greet, to my reservation all the way to my adoption, everything was fantastic, the staff work hard all while been extremely helpful, kind and caring, the reception staff are always trying their best to answer every phone call and help people out, if it wasn't for the great staff I wouldn't have my new mate Trick, who by the way, loves his new home and loves a fuss, everything this centre does is great and my praises could not be any higher! So thank you to every one of you.

This is a review for your Chapeltown charity shop branch. I popped down yesterday 8th may 2018, with some brand new items for you to sell. There were 2 staff in the back who were eating. I appreciate they need a break. They'd clearly saw me stood there, with 2 bags full. And one woman serving, who were helping 2 elderly ladies in front of me, never even aknowledged I was there. Was stood there a good 3 minutes, wasn't long, but in my eyes an eternity. I eventually popped my unwanted items at the back of the counter, as I was busy and had to leave. I almost walked to Saint Luke's hospice across the road. In future I'll be very reluctant to bring you any of my unwanted items. Such a lovely cause, let down by staff who weren't interested.

User

Would be the last place i donate to, many more better deserving places that get my help........ look around and see whats out there, that is struggling, working twice as hard at least, with little recognition...... dont let the term RSPCA make you think they are so wonderful..

User

Very disappointing. Had a family member interested in William (who's too boisterous to be re-homed with young children) who have been told that they cannot adopt him as they cannot guarantee they wont have kids in the next 5 years?!

1 - No matter who you re-home William with you cannot guarantee he will avoid young children.

2 - In 5 years time if they decided to have children William wont be a boisterous 2 year old, he will be 7 and much calmer i'm sure you would agree...

3- As i'm sure you are aware dogs act very differently in their home surrounding so once he's settled he may well be a calmer dog in general.

I honestly feel like you have stopped this dog getting a perfect home and a perfect life by enforcing this.
