About Rudie'S Jerk Shack

Truly tropical and tasty, authentic Jamaican ‘real jerk’ and rum punch
Boxpark Shoreditch & Borough Market

Rudie'S Jerk Shack Description

We have spent a long time scouring the beautiful island of Jamaica doing nothing but sampling the finest food and drinks from the best known eateries, many of which are off the beaten path and known only to the locals .

We’ve learnt from the very best Jamaican jerk centres everything from the butchering techniques, the lengthy marinating process, and the essential ingredients required for our secret rubs and marinades to offer mouth watering succulent jerk in London.

We marinate the meat for at least 24h and only use traditional jerk drums for cooking using real coal not gas, adding carefully selected wood chips that give it the faint smoky flavour we know you will love. Our menu is small focusing on quality, but don’t worry it caters for all tastes and flavours.

Whilst our food is unmistakably Jamaican, we know that good food doesn’t stand still and we have hand picked chefs with the confidence and experience to be experimental and push boundaries. Heck, Jamaican food is a fusion of India, Africa, China, Spain and England, so our chefs have a broad and exciting tapestry to draw from.

Went to Rudie’s to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Great atmosphere, friendly staff with a pulsating classic old school reggae soundtrack. The food was delicious especially the Ackee - a totally new experience for me.

Will definitely be making a bee-line for Rudie’s next time I come to Stokey!

User

We went to Rudies last week for the first time, it was very busy and the atmosphere was buzzing. The staff couldn't be more accommodating. The food was simply amazing and the portions extremely generous.

Loved, loved the restaurant and will definitely be back! This time in time for happy hour . A special thank you to Dionne your kind generosity and grace was greatly appreciated

User

So good! Everything was spot on. The spring roll dessert was the absolute highlight - everyone needs to try it. Really great and friendly service, bang on drinks and delicious food. Will definitely be back.

User

Rudies was recommended to us by friends who visited & loved the place , have to say we felt the same excellent service , food & ambiance , it’s cosy and the portions were really good , we had the curry goat and rice , & sides all lively , however the rum cake & ice cream is my fav , we shared it but next time I’ll

Order my own as it’s real small , I’d go back in a heartbeat brilliant night amazing food and great friendly staff and owners

Rudie's is an outstanding restaurant with delicious food that always hits the spot, I've never eaten somewhere that satisfies my hunger and my soul. The Rum selection is truly amazing and the staff told me all about the different ageing methods and they recommended a particular Rum for a particular dish which you can't find anywhere else in London. The music is wicked with tracks that will take you back to the days when people played vinyls and danced intimately, you can feel the love in the air. I have always been treated like part of the family and I appreciate the greeting that I always get when I arrive. Rudie's isn't just a wonderful restaurant it's a vibe, it's a lifestyle it's a way of life. Here's a message to you Rudie! See you again soon x

User

Myself, partner and friend went for Sunday brunch! The food was amazing my friends partner wasn't too happy with his food but the staff were so acomodating made him a fresh plate of lamb and it was beautiful! Honestly can't wait to go back!! Service was great 👍🏼

User

Lucky find on a Tuesday night. Absolutely packed restaurant, always a good sign. They only do one choice of Caribbean stew/curry per night, along with Jerk meats, fish or veggie. Tonight was Oxtail Stew, which I had with rice n peas and plantain. To start mini patties....I say best to do a few really good dishes than loads of crap and this is exactly what they do...FOOD WAS SENSATIONAL! Best and freshest Caribbean food I've had in ages. I sucked the bones clean. Definitely worth a visit! We'll be back without a doubt!

User

I've become quite a regular of Rudies, and they never fail to provide a great welcoming atmosphere alongside amazingly tasty and innovative food. If your after good vibes, great food and friendly staff. Pay Rudies a visit.

User

I had no intention of eating. I was in the area and popped in for a cup of tea. The atmosphere was infectious, the music made you want to stay to hear the next great track. The meals being served to the other customers made me salivate. I had to stay and ordered curry goat, rice & peas - very nice, but it was the gizarda and vanilla ice cream that confirmed I was in a truly great carribean restaurant. Well done guy's! ! Please, please support them.

User

Friendly staff, great food and nice vibes. Had a great Sunday lunch with the family!

User

User

Been wanting to go to rudies for a while as saw it on FB. So we went on my 50th birthday. It was lovely , lovely staff and good service. We went for lunch and had a rum punch (me) and a Guinness punch (my other half) then we had the shrimp and ackee and saltfish for starters then oxtail and jerk chicken with rice and peas for main. The shrimp were spicy ! So beware but tasty. Definitely worth a visit really enjoyed the food and ambiance. Thanks Rudies

User

The food was delicious and plentiful. The waitress was very attentive. A relaxed atmosphere and we loved the music. However the order (for a table of16) was confused and some of the food was extremely slow to arrive. Could also do with a bigger space now as the restaurant was full and there was nowhere to leave our coats . Overall a really fun night. Would definitely recommend. 👍🏾

User

Great atmosphere great music,starters beautiful

But the mains I found over seasoned and salty, beautiful lamb rump didn't taste like lamb over seasoned, rice over seasoned maybe the chef slipped, presentation good desert didn't look like rum cake as I grew up with and did not taste like it either but was ok so they get a 3

User

Food is really good but unfortunately service really let's it down. The lady who works in there in the yellow top is really unfriendly and unprofessional - shocking behaviour!! The guy who gave us our bill was much nicer and tried to rectify the situation. 1 drink in over an hour and we had to push for that. Never had to refuse service charge before...shame as cocktails were really tasty....

User

This was for the service lots of staff but waited for food for awhile and when it came one of the mains was cold and then we waited ages for the sides cocktail happy hour was not to happy a pound off and awkward moments at the end of the evening when the bill came of which was wrong terrible seat bench like not good look cocking your leg over every time you leave the table almost knocking the person behind out with a kick to the head every time someone gets a up or wants to pass you get a bum in your back not good shame though food was ok

User

The food was average we had a table booked for friends leaving due we were put on two seperate tables and they had to stick chairs on the end for space which wasnt very helpful as there was not much space on the tables already. Anyhow time to pay the bill and I didnt put anything towards the deposit so my bill was completly seperate from my friends I asked to make a payment with my card I told her how much and she comfirmed that with me she took the payment everything was fine I got home and checked my online banking only to realise the woman over charged me I was shocked. I think that would be my first and last experience with rudies.

Last night I came to your restaurant for a friends birthday, arrived at 9:10pm table was meant to be ready from 9pm but told it was not ready to wait upstairs, about 15 mins later was finally ready so we were told we can go downstairs, the floor had clearly just been mopped so it was very slippery we made our way to our tables.

Now we were having a meal costing £23.50 consisting of starters to share and although it was not explained very clearly I believe that you pick either meat or fish for your mains which again is shared but if you pick fish you get your own plate. There was 6 of us at a table.

So let’s move on to the food: mini patties beef or veg? These were definitely “pasties” the driest I’ve ever tasted, then we were presented with wings, I personally couldn’t eat these I like spicy food but these were listed as “very hot” and covered in chilli seeds my friends at the table were almost choking from the heat of the pepper on them, I’m still bemused why something so niche was put on a set menu? Finally we got the ribs 6 people 5 ribs do I need to explain anymore? These were probably the nicest dish on the menu.

Moving on to the main course: 5 of us chose meat 1 chose fish, we were given 1 cereal size bowl of curry goat and 3 small cups of rice and pease that smelled burnt we asked is anymore curry goat coming we were told that’s it and they will be bringing jerk turkey and pork, clearly this could not be decided by 5 people and two of the table already ate the bowl before we were told no more was coming, we finally got a platter of turkey and pork, the turkey was dry, bland and cold, the pork was bland and had so much fat on it, the gravy tasted like spicy bisto gravy. Your staff said we would be getting 2 small bowls of the curry goat after she spoke to the manager and it will be on the house, to be honest the curry goat was more like curry goat soup again was not authentic Caribbean cooking.

In general your food is on par with turtle bay I wouldn’t consider it authentic Caribbean cooking having cooked and eaten it all my life.

I do not consider your set menu value for money I paid £23.50 and consumed 1 dry pasty, 1 rib And half a small bowl of curry goat for that money.

I really think you need to rethink your set menu, it’s fine sharing starters but for the price people should have just chose one individual plate of food each especially if your staff can not assess a reasonable amount of food per table.

Most of your staff are rude and lack knowledge, some didn’t even understand English, there was one young black girl who was probably the best member of staff you have she tried her hardest and was polite at all times, there was one white girl hair tied up with dark eyes she was the worst and rude at all times behaved like everything was an effort.

I didn’t complain on the night as it was my friends birthday and I didn’t want to cause a scene.

Upon leaving I had to go to a kfc drive thru as I was so hungry.

I would never eat at your establishment again.
