The different types of tendon pathologies:
Paratenonitis: Disorder of the loose paratenon layer covering the tendon, EG: Achilles Paratenonitis
Tenosynovitis: Disorder of the tendon, EG: DE Quervains Tenosynovitis.
... Tendinopathy: An intratendinous disorder, EG: Rotator Cuff, Patella tendon and Common Extensor Origion (Tennis elbow).
Enthesopathy: An intratendinous disorder effecting the tendon origin or insertion, EG: Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy.
Tear: Loss of normal tendon integrity leading to a partial or full rupture, EG: Ruptured Supraspinatus (Rotator cuff) Achilles Tendon.

Many people experience shoulder pain who do not participate sport. Why? Because the shoulder is complex and has many structures going through a space which is just big enough. So with our modern way of life, being hunched over a computer or sitting looking down at our phones /tablets we form a new posture. Our bodies adapt to positions to which we are in the longest. Therefore causing rounding of the shoulders thus placing the humeral head internally rotated position. This m...akes the space within the shoulder joint a lot smaller. With this smaller space we then continue to do things in our every day life and this causes irritation of the tendons which in turn causes mild thickening and yes of course you feel no pain but like a rope in a pulley which is not seated correctly those rope fibres become fuzzy and begin to fray. However this does not happen with tension but thickening does. So the tendon becomes thickened the space becomes smaller and pain begins to arise and so the cycle begins.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO STOP THIS? Well firstly adjust your seating position at work. If you have to use a laptop ensure you have the right desk top fittings to allow reduced stress on the shoulders and NECK. If using your phone / tablet try to sit with you elbows by your side and upper back supported to stop you from slouching. Lastly, do some strengthening exercises for the back of you shoulders where your shoulder blades are. After all the majority of anterior shoulder pain arises from the posterior shoulder.

So today my journey begins. Day one of my Ultrasound diagnostic scanning starts. I have to have 250 yes 250 case studies completed by 30th November. So I decided to give strongwoman up (for now) in order to progress with my studies and grow my business. This decision wasn’t taken lightly but is imperative for my future at S2S Physiotherapy. How ever if you do have multiple parts with symptoms that’s is good. Scanning will of course be free and will be offered for a Tuesday morning, Friday evening and eventually Saturdays too. Thinking of running a taping course for runners to help them afix the tape correctly and effectively anyone interested? (I say runners as most people are currently in training for one marathon or another)

This is all too a familiar image that I see at the gym. The safest thing is that a) no one will advise other lifters b) they have been shown incorrectly and have no idea of correct form. This is a serious back problem waiting to happen. If you ever need advice please do not hesitate to contact me or ask me if I’m at the gym. I would rather see you doing well than see you in my clinic.

I often tell people to use wheat bags, do not use them at the practice. HOWEVER... PEOPLE PLEASE READ THE WHEAT BAG INSTRUCTIONS They can cause serious burns!!!
