Saint Anselm'S Roman Catholic Church

About Saint Anselm'S Roman Catholic Church

We are a Catholic church situated in the village of Pembury in Kent (UK). A diverse, friendly congregation we serve all Catholics living within the village as well as being home to the local Ordinariate group in the wider Tunbridge Wells area.

Saint Anselm'S Roman Catholic Church Description

S. Anselm’s was initially built, as a hall for a church that never materialised, in 1964, the site having been acquired by the parish of Saint Augustine’s inTunbridge Wells. A small chapel was added in 1980, when plans for a larger church were abandoned, and so Saint Anselm's became a Mass Centre which was then linked to, and served from, the nearby parish of S. Justus in Paddock Wood.

In Advent 2011 the situation changed again following the arrival of 72 new Catholics who joined the parish as part of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, a Papal initiative aimed at bringing former Anglicans into communion with Rome.

The Archbishop of Southwark, Rt. Revd. Peter Smith, announced that Saint Anselm’s would be erected as a quasi parish in its own right to be served by priests of the Ordinariate. In 2013, thanks to generous giving and a grant from the Diocese, funding was secured to help us develop our buildings. We are currently planning to add space to serve as a community room allowing us to transform the dual use hall into a permament place of worship.
