About Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy
Catholic Secondary School in Ilkeston
Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy Description
Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy opened in January 1965 as The Blessed John Houghton Catholic School to provide a secondary Catholic education for children. The school has grown in size and reputation ever since. We are an 11-16 comprehensive providing education for girls and boys of all abilities.
Christ is the foundation for our school. All that we say and do reflects the Christian message. We are proud of our efforts to educate and care for all of our students. Choosing the right secondary school for your child is a very important decision. If you entrust your child to us we offer a learning partnership between home, parish and school.

Today we say goodbye to a number of staff including our headteacher Mrs McCarthy. She has given seven years of loyal service to SJH and helped to create the wonderful school community that we are part of today. Students and staff will miss her smile, her kindness and her sense of humour. She will always be part of the SJH family and we wish her every happiness for the future! Good luck Mrs McCarthy!
Goodbye to this wonderful student, who leaves us to live in Poland. Thank you for your generous gift to our garden.

We held our Celebration of Achievement evening last night and guest speaker Mr McNally told the audience that he will be leaving us at the end of term after 29 years of loyal service to SJH. He really is a true SJH #legend and who can forget the Gareth Southgate waistcoat! We are sure you will join us in wishing him well!
Today we welcomed @KirkHallamCA @WilsthorpeCS to hear from the #aquabox charity about the fantastic work they are doing across the world. The talk was part of an #Erewash Youth Forum meeting and we are so proud of our students who really want to make a difference @RotaryGBI
