January is notorious for the 'quick-fix' approach to nutrition. - Detoxes, cleanses and other similar practices do actually work for weight loss (calorie deficit). - The problem is that they aren't enjoyable or sustainable. So sure, you may lose some weight during your January detox, but come Febuary, when you start eating normally again, the weight is just going to come straight back on (unless you create new habits surrounding food and exercise.)... - I know you may feel the urge to detox after a few weeks of indulging, but don't waste your money. - Sustainable may not be as sexy, but it works a hell of a lot better than going out all guns blazing.

*RESOLUTION RULES*
#1: Dont Give Up the Foods You Love.
2019 is only 5 days away which means plenty of you will be thinking about new resolutions - especially in regards to your health and nutrition.... _
Resolutions can be useful for motivating you to help you lose weight and eat better, but to often they are way to restrictive and focus too much on the short term for real change.
_
Giving up the foods you love is only going to last so long before you fall off the wagon. So rather than eliminating all the foods you love, focus on REDUCING the amount or frequency of these foods and focus more on introducing foods and behaviors that are healthier (that you can stick to) _
Doing this for a year will put you in a much better place than giving up your favourite foods for a month.

Merry Christmas from the real Lion King 🎅

Remember that consistency is key with your nutrition habits. - What your nutrition habits look like on a day to day basis over the course of months and years is what is most important.

Stuff like this drives me crazy. - Food is more than just calories. - (I'm not saying calories don't count, they do)... - But you shouldn't feel bad about eating ANY food. - And you shouldn't feel like you have to punish yourself to burn off calories from certain types of food. - Do you feel like you need to go for a run after you have your breakfast? - Nope? - Then you shouldn't feel like doing it after eating pizza, or a burger, or some chocolate. - Be mindful of your dietary choices inline with your goals - Exercise the way you enjoy for the benefits (mentally and physically) that exercise brings. - And stop worrying or feel guilty about eating food you enjoy.

Without doubt one of the best parts about Christmas is the food.
It's also a great time to relax, take your time and practice being mindful when you are eating.

With it being Christmas party time and likely there's a few rough heads this morning 🍻🍷😷
A friendly reminder to rehydrate - large glass of water and a pinch of salt (replace some of those lost electrolytes from the dance-floor) to kick start you on the road to recovery 👌

January is right around the corner which means your inbox is soon going to be full of people pushing expensive (and pointless) 'Detox' supplements as you look to kick-start your 2019 healthy habits.
Detox’s do work (in the short term anyway), but it’s got nothing to do with any special ingredient.
Usually with a detox, you will drink more water (better hydration) and pay attention more to the quality of the food you eat.
... = You’ll feel better, maybe lose a little weight.
The marketing on these products is enticing for sure.
But save your money, focus on integrating better habits into your routine and you’ll get the same (probably better tbh) results.
- Include more fruit & vegetables in your diet. - Drink more water. - Get into a regular sleep pattern. - Spend more time moving and less time sitting.
Oh, and on Jan 7th we are going to running a 7 Day Healthy Habits Kickstart Challenge. If you want to join in (for FREE btw) then comment below and I’ll send you some more details.

Another reason to eat your Fruit + Veg

When someone tries telling you that eating fruit makes you gain fat...

Food.
Fims.
Summer.
... Olympics.
All things that have a start and end date.
Most nutrition plans seem to be going that way as well. 6 week. 8 weeks. 10 weeks. Then it’s over.
But you don’t stop eating.
So what are you supposed to do after?
You will continue to eat for the rest of your life.
I understand that not everyone has a huge interest in their nutrition.
But it’s a fundamental part of life.
To how you feel day to day.
To recovery.
To performance.
To longevity.
What you eat now WILL impact what your life is like in 5, 10, 15 years.
It’s why I’ll never do a 6 week shred or an 8 week fat blitz.
Where you get a strict meal plan to follow.
Because then what are you going to do after that?
Go back to your old eating habits?
You haven’t learned how to eat for your goals.
How to maintain a nutrition approach that you can MAINTAIN that keeps you happy and healthy.
How to eat a varying and nutritious diet.
Whether you like it or not, nutrition isn’t an ‘on’ or ‘off’ switch.
It’s with you for life.

- Pizza
- Burgers
- Cookies
... - Ice Cream
- Crisps
- Alcohol
All these foods you CAN eat and still lose weight + eat a healthy diet.
There are NO 'banned' foods.
I know it's 'sexy' to go to the extremes with diet and only eat meat or salads, but can you really see yourself doing that for a long time?
Reduce the frequency or serving size of these types of foods, but you don't need to cut them out completely.
Extreme diets may sound 'sexy', but extreme rarely gets you the results you want.

You probably know by now I’m a big fan of getting people to eat more fruit and veg, and I always encourage people to vary the foods they eat, but it’s certainly not because of pH or trying to make your body ‘alkaline’.
Firstly, your body ranges in pH depending on where you are talking about. The stomach, for example, has a pH of between 1.5-3 (very acidic) whereas the blood has a PH of 7.35 and is VERY tightly regulated.
Food has virtually ZERO impact on your blood pH (trust... me, you would know about it if a food had changed your blood Ph) and ALL food goes through the (very acidic) stomach anyway before it is broken down and absorbed.
I think most people should be looking to eat more fruits and vegetables for sure, the benefits are so clear, but you don’t have to go to such extremes to do so.
Work on introducing more variety in your diet, try to include 2-3 servings of fruit or veg at every meal as a way to get more in without going crazy because you’re eating cucumber all day.

I get told that I can't call this authentic 'Paella'.
Either way, It's one of my favourites and really easy to make.
Great for a mid-week meal if you're stuck 👌

We don't always eat because we are hungry and eating because of boredom, stress or tiredness is something that I hear a lot.
It's difficult to break the habit, but being clear on WHY you are feeling 'hungry' is an important step to change your habits.
Here are some simple ways to identify if you're physically or 'emotionally' hungry and what to do about it...
