Sanders Sails Description

Sanders Sails . . .

. . . renowned for making superior sails.

Sails for racing, cruising, One design and classic yachts. . . .
Our aim is simple: To make the best performing, highest calibre, most affordable sails.

Based near the waterfront at Lymington, Hampshire, Sanders is a sailmaker with distinction - offering fast turnaround times, excellent service and expert advice.

Our knowledgable team pays attention to every detail, using materials ranging from traditional woven fabrics to the very latest custom carbon membranes.

We have a separate department for sail repairs and in the winter we can wash and overhaul your sails before storing them in our heated premises until the start of the new season.

Sanders also offers a bespoke service in covers and marine upholstery - all made in-house - for that added panache and comfort at sea.

A family run company established in 1974 by Managing Director Peter Sanders, it currently employs more than 20 people and is now leading the way in making first class sails, covers and marine upholstery.

Happy #frontendfriday to all our lovely followers. We are missing the water just as much as you are, but we hope you are all safe and well? If you have any photos from the bow of your boats, or yachts that you have sailed on - we would love to see them in the comments.
Photo Info: This was taken of Jolly Jak Jar - helmed by Joe Henry on their way to winning the J109 Nationals during the J-Cup with their full suit of Sanders Sails.

With the greatest respect to the non-essential guidelines set by the Government, amid this COVID-19 pandemic, we thought we would show these throwback Thursday images of the last cover fitted before the lock down. Bellissima 2 looking very beautiful indeed; hope she doesn't feel too neglected?

Food for thought Friday...
Please stay at home if you do not fit the criteria set out by the Government.
We found this latest quote quite relevant in this time of need and we are so thankful for the incredible NHS staff who are on the front line.
... Thank you so very much!
Can anyone answer these questions from the picture?
1. What is the make of yacht? 2. Where was this photo taken? 3. What is your favorite quotation on Humanity?

Here is a nice post to slot in between all the Corona virus messages flooding our news feed at the moment. With all our schools being closed for the foreseeable future, a lot of families are left with the cost of additional lunch time meals.
The New Forest Basics Food Bank: food & household items for those in need is incredible in their efforts to help The Arnewood School deliver on this burden. We were more than happy to help with the use of our vans in the transportation and packaging of these food bags.
If you would like to deliver any spare food items you may have or help with the volunteering that this fantastic charity needs - there is a website or you can call 01590 610008.

**COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update**
Due to recent guidelines from the government and the continue spread of this very dangerous virus, we have now taken steps to prevent all (non-staff) persons from entering the building. This includes delivery staff.
If you are coming to us to collect your sails and covers we ask that you give us the 24 hour notice we already ask, with an additional accurate arrival time (10 to 15 minutes before) if possible and we will bring your goods outsid...e to you.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause; but we must protect our staff and the greater community. We are very aware of our responsibility to protect our "NHS" and the incredible staff who are being worked tirelessly day and night to look after us in this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for your understanding. Please be safe.

"S" Stands for Sanders!
The birth of the Code S.
Typically, a cruising inventory will comprise of:
... 1. Yacht with overlapping Genoa a. Mainsail b. Roller Reefing Genoa c. Cruising Chute
Or
2. Yacht with non-overlapping Jib a. Mainsail b. Roller Reefing self tacker or Jib c. Code Zero / Genneker (to make up for the lack of headsail area when off the wind) d. Cruising Chute
The cruising code zero is set on a furler, which makes it very easy to use. It can be made of Nylon or for closer windward sailing - a light laminate.
Historically the cruising chute was used with a snuffer, but then the "Top - Down" furler was invented which proclaimed to make it easier to handle such a sail. In our experience the "Bottom Up" furler used on the cruising code zero was much easier to use and far less likely to create a drama that of the "Top Down" furler which is why we looked at a way to use a "Bottom Up" furler on a cruising chute.
A "Bottom Up" furler has the torsional stay inside the luff of the sail which is why it is easier to furl. We therefore designed a sail of the same area as the cruising chute, but with a straight luff so that it could be used on a "Bottom Up" furler. The Code S was born.

Mark Brown; owner of Four Seasons Charters in Gosport has sold his hugely successful Prima 38 "ASSASSIN" (that was kitted out with Sanders Sails) and replaced it with a new challenge; an Archambault 31 called "ASSASSIN", which was quickly fitted with a new suit from us. They were out practising at the weekend and sent us this great photo of one of the new sails we have just made for her; the code zero.
For any enquiries on our bespoke racing sails, please contact us via email or on Facebook itself and we will be happy to help.

The Caribbean has been host to some fantastic offshore sailing the last couple of months and the results have been great for Sanders Sails Racing. Congratulations to Ross Applebey and his team onboard #ScarletOyster who won class 2 and came a very impressive 8th overall in the IRC standings.
Scarlet Oyster is fitted with our offshore GPL Lite skin sailcloth and was also victorious in the Atlantic crossing earlier in the year. Great work team.

Last weekend saw the completion of the 2020 #frostbiteseries hosted by Rsyc Gins Farm. With 8 races completed in the series, there was some very close racing over 4 weekends.
Congratulations to Eric Williams' "Love in a Mist" who won class 2 with three 1st's and four 2nd's. Fully wardrobed by Sanders Sails - she uses a Dacron mainsail, Kevlar membrane headsails (J1, J2, J2.5) and two spinnakers made of Superkote.

As the spread of the COVID-19 (Corona) Virus intensifies we have taken steps to protect our staff and to help prevent any further spread in our area. We now have hand sanitiser at the reception front door and politely ask that this is used before entering the loft. We also ask that you are not offended if we do not offer a handshake, as we have taken the Governments advice on helping to contain this harmful virus. Thank you for your understanding and we are continuing to work hard to get your sails and covers ready for the new season.

All charities, of any size, are incredibly important to so many vulnerable families - reaching out a hand to our local communities and sometimes the greater national population. One such charity, is that of the "New Forest Basics Bank", located in Lymington, to help those in need despite a 'break in' last December. This incident, albeit despicable, brought awareness to us of the incredible volunteers who are giving up their time and money to support the most vulnerable in the New Forest catchment. As a company we were shocked that there was such a high need for this help and we were desperate to pass on our support to this cause. You can read the latest article by Roz Waters on our website www.sanders-sails.co.uk or buy the New Milton Advertiser Lymington Times newspaper (page 15).
