About Sandwell Parents For Disabled Children

SPDC is a registered charity (number 1125576) focusing on play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and their families in Sandwell.

Sandwell Parents For Disabled Children Description

Sandwell Parents for Disabled Children (SPDC) is a voluntary organisation founded in 2003 by a group of parents and carers of disabled children who were frustrated at the lack of play and leisure provision in the borough for their children. SPDC’s core function is to provide play, leisure & social opportunities for disabled children with the inclusion of siblings and parents /carers and to work with other service providers to ensure that disabled children are included.

Our mission is that every disabled child or young person living in Sandwell should have access to a range of play and leisure opportunities that enables them to stay safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve and make a positive contribution to others.

Invitation for ‘Caring for Carers’ programme Taster Sessions Sept & Oct 2018
Public health are piloting a programme with Sandwell College, specifically designed to support carers with their caring role, whilst helping them gain confidence and take steps to improve their own health and wellbeing. As part of the programme, we are offering 2 taster sessions to help inform on the content and delivery. By attending these sessions we request that you provide feedback which will s...upport with the next steps. Details of the sessions are below; ideally it would be preferable if you can attend both days. However; if you can only attend one day then that is acceptable too. These trial sessions will operate in exactly the same way as the actual programme sessions would and the aim is to attend exactly as if you were a carer receiving the information. This is important to enable us to evaluate the sessions and for the future development of the programme. It would also be useful to capture the wealth of experience and skills which as either previous/current carers or working with carers that you will have.
About the sessions; • Thursday 20th September 2018 and Thursday 4th October 2018 • Time: 09:30am -1:00pm (approx.) • Venue: Terry Duffy House, 1 Thomas Street, West Bromwich, B70 6NT • The two taster sessions will focus on wellbeing and inclusiveness • The aim of the sessions has always been to focus on the carers needs within an open/informal environment. The session are part of a bespoke programme aimed at bringing local carers together which will be delivered in a supportive, informal environment • The sessions are open for up to 10 colleagues and we would like them to view the course both as a carer and critically around the delivery, content etc… • Those attending the sessions will complete short questionnaires as part of the evaluation. • The sessions will also offer the additional options for interactive presentations from local support agencies • Any feedback that is provided will be discussed at the follow-up project meeting to inform on future development If you are a carer or work with local carers and are able to attend, then please contact Suni Patel, Healthy Ageing Project Manager - Public Health no later than the 14th September 2018. Email: suni_patel@sandwell.gov.uk Tel: 0121 569 5172 Mobile: 07972 527171
