Sanskruti Description

'He did not dance for the audience. He did not dance for appreciation. He did not dance for the music. He danced only for himself. . . He had opened himself and the dance had come to him. ' - Amish, Immortals of Meluha

Sanskruti means culture in Sanskrit. The drive to initiate this institution was to introduce the classical Indian dance form Bharatanatyam to the youth in Cambridge, which is already a central core for several other cultural activities. The aim of Sanskruti School of Dance is to holistically train students in Bharatanatyam, incorporating all the finest nuances of this ancient and complex Indian art form. This allows students to develop a sense of discipline, commitment and professionalism towards the dance. Importantly, students like any other medium of communication, learn Bharatanatyam as a mode of expression and communication. Moreover, students are encouraged to take ISTD exams in Bharatanatyam to further hone their skills in dance technique.
Recently, Sanskruti School of Dance has expanded its horizons to other Indian art forms including Carnatic Vocals, the Veena and some fun-filled Bollywood style dancing. Within this framework, Sanskruti offers regular classes and workshops and promotes its students to give stage performances in cultural festivals.
