About Scarfes Bar
An artfully social bar where conversational cocktails are served alongside live jazz and Gerald’s Scarfe's collection of original and one-off paintings. Awarded No. 55 @50bestbars 2019
#Worlds50BestBars
Scarfes Bar Description
Gerald Scarfe, renowned British artist and caricaturist has lent his name and artistic vision to Rosewood London’s Scarfes Bar. Gerald’s collection of amusing and conversation-provoking paintings, highlighting his best work, adorn the marble walls turning Scarfes Bar into a living canvas, described by Gerald as “my personal art gallery, where you can see my life on these walls”. Gerald’s collection of original and one-off paintings, a permanent feature in the bar, add a unique twist and depict well-known historical and famous faces recounting the colourful history of the United Kingdom in Gerald’s witty and satirical way. There is also a smaller changing exhibition in the heart of the bar. Dubbed the ‘artfully current’ corner, this wall is what Gerald deals with on a daily basis as a political cartoonist. Featuring a collection of prints from Gerald’s archive, the current affairs corner will continuously change as topics in the news arise.
Scarfes Bar, inspired by the atmosphere of a drawing room and the sophistication of a gentleman’s club, features a roaring fire, low-key lighting, a collection of cosy velvet armchairs and shelves filled with over 1, 000 antique books hand-picked by a Portobello antique dealer. The bartenders are true connoisseurs of their craft from advising on beers and matching wines to preparing specially-curated cocktails. Complimentary live music seven nights a week further adds to the conviviality of this artfully social bar where potions and paintings meet.

Ever so often, Gerald Scarfe paints the political landscape which we display in the bar. What better way to keep up with current affairs, with a cocktail in our cosy corner 👨🏼🎨📚🕯 #politics #cartoons #caricatures #trump #may #currentaffairs #politicians #paintingsandpotionsvol1 #scarfesbar #caricatures2018 #cocktails #londondrinks

wow! just a beautiful place to spend an evening. Drinks are particularly expensive, however, its all worth it and such a treat` staff are fantastic, and the jazz band are sublime` a fond memory for sure
What a fabulous place to visit on Valentine's evening. The whole place is charming. Very comfortable seating. Great staff who are very knowledgeable about the place. Drinks are pricey so do not visit if you are on a budget.
We visited Friday evening and I have to say what a lovely bar to visit.
These high grove cocktails we had were simply the best drink I have ever tasted. The bar tender told us all about how they were made and prepared.
I will defiantly be back to visit
Thank you scarfes bar
Very high end bar at the Rosewood Hotel. Beautiful surroundings with marble and choice dark wood much in evidence. Great ambience. Primarily a cocktail bar, it has exceptional service and wonderful drinks from bottled beers and distinguished wines to skillfully created cocktails. Excellent live music on hand too. Of course it's expensive, but what exceptional place in central London isn't? Well worth a visit.
Very atmospheric up market bar that serves a wide range of cocktails and spirits. Friendly and professional staff, the bar staff are among some of the best I’ve ever seen with levels of professionalism only seen by people who are at the top of their game. The night we went they had great little band in the specialised in 30,s And 40’s style music and you could literally have been back in that era. Yet it not old fashioned at all.
Very atmospheric bar, great live music and comfy sofas. The bar is honestly awesome, I thought I was in a movie. The only disadvantage I'd say is the menu that is really impossible to read as well as the prices (15£ from a small glass of red Spanish wine???). I'd definitely go again and recommend it...
Stayed here for four nights the entire experience was fantastic ,bar staff knew exactly what to do and the music was incredible
Omg Lovely bar, live music and excellent staff. Very friendly and so welcoming. Can't wait to visit soon 👌🏾👍🏾.
Cocktails were great.champagne 💯 %🔝.
If you're after an evening well spent with close family or friends .. look no further. Great ambiance with live Jazz music for over 3hrs. Fantastic drinks menu. The extra effort on service and table awareness from serving staff was very much noticed. Your glass is topped up without you having to ask and your server will know what you're after and offer you some amazing choices on drinks. And in saying that .. it was a full house all evening and night long and on a Saturday! Tres bon!
If you want really good unique cocktails made by people who have a passion for mixing drinks this is the place for you. The cocktails are £17 to £20 but worth every penny. This is a place you go to linger not neck it and get drunk. If you like fruity drinks ask for a Charlie Chaplin. Not on the cocktail menu but just ask.
I love this place. The Jazz is phenomenal. Kitty LaRoar is lovely to listen to and watch. She is completely at one with the music and the audience senses it. Certainly my fiancé does, hah! Matthew VanKan and his band are just as great. I find the staff to be very polite, and the young ladies who wait on you are always poised. We go to this bar even when we are staying at a different hotel than the Rosewood. Scarfes Bar is memorable and the music is what gives it the 5th star.
I had an incredible experience at Scarfes Bar. The bar is incredibly quaint and well furnished. The staff are beyond helpful and are very knowledgeable about the cocktails on offer so if you have a problem choosing what you might like, definitely ask!
Excellent service and attention to detail; wonderful surroundings too - even made my requested whiskey sour! a must!
Classy atmosphere with good jazz music. Worth an experience.
Been to Scarfes a few times now, and it’s always a pleasure.. great cocktail selection, beautifully crafted with care and incredibly Knowledgable staff, who really care about their creations.. the vibe is totally relaxed and when the live music starts, it’s a sublime place to see out any eve..
A must go if you are in London and near the Rosewood 👌🏼
Always a treat to stop by for a drink at Scarfes.
Have visited as a guest at the Rosewood Hotel and just popping in for a cocktail.
Faultless service, excellent music and amazing mixology!
Love the decor in this bar...smart, cosy and sophisticated. I particularly love the interior. Yes , prices of the drinks are high but it is expected in this type of place. The waiters and waitresses are professional and friendly. We stayed for a few drinks. I would definitely come back.
Worst experience at Scarfes bar on Friday night whilst celebrating my friends birthday. There were 6 of us in the group of all girls, we had had cocktails and my friend had bought a bottle of champagne. After the waiter poured some into each of our glasses a bottle was put in the champagne bucket beside our table. A while later my friend lifted it up to see if there was any more left, there was so she poured the rest into our glasses. At this point a waiter came rushing over and in an angry tone told us that wasn't our champagne and we should not have poured it - it was in fact the table behind us where a group of men were sat. We apologised immediately and didn't drink any. Then the manager came over to our table and proceeded to made us feel like a group of naughty school girls. He wouldn't let us explain how innocent the mistake was and demanded that we pay £150 for his 'extremely upset guests who were staying at the hotel'. After trying to explain our innocent mistake, he accused us of lying and then accused my friend of never actually purchasing a bottle of champagne in the first place, she had to show him the receipt to prove this. At no point were we told why the champagne was at our table in the first place. We were then told that we were never welcome in the bar again. We decided to go over to the men sat at the table behind to apologise for our mistake - they told us that they didn't mind at all, that the manager had made a huge fuss about the situation and promised them all sorts by way of compensation and that they were not in fact staying at the hotel as he had told us. They actually ended up leaving at the same time as us and asking us to go for a beer with them. Having been to Scarfes bar many times, for many celebratory occasions I was horrified to be accused of purposefully stealing and lying and being made to feel like we were not valued guests. Worst experience in the hospitality industry.
Well, what can I say I was made to feel very UNWELCOME, never have I been so insulted. I arrived to meet friends here at 6pm on Thursday 16 February. The doorman, however, suggested I might enjoy the bar opposite. 'No, my friends are inside, this is where I'm meeting them' I replied. Clearly, he disbelieved me as he asked me to phone them and ask them to come out and fetch me! I couldn't believe it! I pointed at my friends and told him, 'Look I can see them, the lady with the red hair and all those ladies around that table'. Phone them, doorman insisted, struggling to find their number he finally allowed me to enter Scarfes after keeping me outside feeling very humiliated. On entering, the place was NOT full. I joined my friends. We were served by an incredibly charming waiter, who I think was French. The food was delicious but frankly, my evening at Scarfes was not pleasant due to the UNWELCOMING attitude I received. I'd give zero stars if I could but this system forces to give one in order to give my review.
