A new collection of essays by E-IR: Fieldwork as Failure. Living and Knowing in the Field of International Relations.
'This volume aims to unsettle the silence that surrounds #fieldwork #failure in both #methods training and academic publications. While fieldwork has gradually evolved into standard practice in IR research, the question of possible failures in field-based knowledge production remains conspicuously absent from both graduate training and writing in IR.'

Of interest to historians of ideas, political theorists, political scientists:
Establishing a constitutional ‘right of asylum’ in early nineteenth-century Britain, by Thomas C Jones The University of Buckingham
'For several generations before the First World War, the idea that the #British #constitution contained a ‘right of #asylum' for foreign nationals was commonplace. Though this belief had profound consequences for Britain's treatment of political and religious exiles, ...its relations with foreign states, and the drafting of its extradition and immigration laws, there has been little enquiry into its origins.'

New OA article by SGIA doctoral candidate Emile Archambault and Yannick Veilleux-Lepage Universiteit Leiden / Leiden University: #Drone imagery in #IslamicState #propaganda: flying like a state.
In this article, the authors argue that 'ISIS's use of drones distinguishes itself from other state and non-state uses of drones primarily by its communicative and symbolic value. While ISIS' use of drone strikes takes place in a tactical rather than strategic setting, its employment of drones to film VBIED attacks allows them to achieve a strategic effect.'
