Update: My other (expensive! £3k road bike) developed a creak; I noticed that a few wheel spokes were loose. Gave Scotts Cycles a call, popped down that afternoon with the wheel and Peter trued the wheel right away - even provided me with insight on how wheels are trued and went into detail of wheel building patterns etc. Brilliant. A tenner later - all sorted. Great guy!

Original Review:
Having bought a fancy bike from a fancy boutique, and after it having its 6 week service, the gear changes did not feel right.

Rather than taking a longish journey to the boutique store I decided to try Scotts Cycles instead.

The store is borderline nostalgic, a complete contrast to any boutique. But don't let this put you off!

Peter was very helpful, he said he would attempt to correct my gears and if he was unsuccessful he would not charge me, even though I offered to at least pay for his time. Assuming he could fix the problem he would charge £5.00.

A few hours later he called to say that the work was complete.

Peter really did do his best to complete the same day, something which I am grateful for as this is my commuter bike.

An honest, straight speaking gentleman who will not try to rip you off. His advice is sound and I fully recommend.

Brilliant service. Minor adjustments usually done whilst you wait and sometimes for free!

Fantastic guy who runs the shop with excellent service. Would recommend to any and all who have any interest in riding a bike!

Went in to buy a new bike and the chap has explained all my available options and.took the time to explain the pros.and.cons.of.all the bike.types, the shop.is small.but the Guy knows his.stuff and.you.leave knowing how your bike broke as well as a reasonable.price on how to fix it.. I don't agree with the negative reviews, I've always found the chap to tell it like it is not beat around a bush. I've always gone to Scotts cycles.for.mybikes and repairs.and unlike red kite cycles where they are just sales men, you get a good quality service and have a.produce that. lasts

This guy is super helpful. I think people may be confusing arrogance or unfriendliness with just someone who may not be the most sociable of people or perhaps is mildly autistic.

However I've been in here many times and providing you're willing to develop a relationship with the guy and work with him then he's a real jewel. And besides, you don't go there for a chat, do you? You go there to buy stuff and to get your bike fixed. And that's what he's good at.

Great store. Unlike most shops the guy has a superb knowledge of both current and older stuff. Which given that cycling kit and industry standards change every 2 minutes us very useful.

Don't judge a book by it's cover....

Scott's is a reassuringly old fashioned bike shop rather than a pretentious boutique. What Pete Scott doesn't know about maintaining bikes ain't worth knowing. His charges are very reasonable, and you will get a job done well. You can often rely on him to have the spare part you need for older kit too.

Go on - give them a try

I have found Scott cycles extremely helpful. I regularly take our bikes there for fixing and have purchased the children's bikes there as well. If there are any problems that need sorting they have been there to help.

I am one of the many customers who can't fault Scotts Cycles. I totally agree with the comments about other shops with inflated prices and inflated egos! I have always found Scotts to be helpful in a way that is above and beyond others and I continue to go back again and again. They even let me collect my bike after closing hours once. I give it top marks for customer service. It may not have the clinical, state of the art feel of some shops but that to me means it has character and charm and is a PROPER shop that is always a joy to go into.
