.This photo taken by Sea Shepherd UK's crew on Operation Mjölnir shows a dead unborn Fin whale fetus being dragged away from view by workers at Hvalur hf's whaling station in Hvalfjörður on the 3rd September as the mother (the 114th endangered whale harpooned during the 2018 season) is butchered for sale to Japan.
The Icelandic whaling company 'Hvalur hf' holds a permit to kill 191 endangered fin whales issued by the Icelandic government under the county's self-exemption to t...he Global Moratorium on Whaling - an exemption which is not recognised by the majority of the nations represented at the International Whaling Commission. Virtually all the products (some 1700 to 2000 tons) of these endangered Fin whales killed by this one rogue Icelandic whaling company are shipped to Japan using Icelandic and Japanese reservations to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
Sea Shepherd UK's crew have been operating in Iceland on 'Operation Mjölnir' since the 18th of June monitoring Hvalur hf's whaling station in Hvalfjörður and the two whaling ships Hvalur 8 and Hvalur 9 throughout the whaling season.

A Spanish-registered fishing vessel detained by the Irish Naval Service off the southwest coast has been found to have more than a tonne of shark fins on board.
Up to 5,000 sharks are estimated to have been caught and stored on the vessel before it was boarded last week by an inspection team from the LÉ William Butler Yeats, 150 nautical miles south of Mizen Head.
The vessel, Virxen da Blanca, was escorted into Castletownbere, Co Cork, where it was handed over to the Garda Sí...ochána, who were assisted by the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA).

Last weekend, volunteers from Sea Shepherd UK's Ghostnet Campaign gathered in North Wales for a weekend of training, surveying and net retrieval. On Saturday, two volunteers who have recently obtained their powerboat qualifications spent the day in SSUK's Rigid Inflatable Boats, 'Ghost' and 'Phantom' gaining further experience and helping to survey two more wrecks for future dives.
Sunday saw the same boat crew take 2 teams of divers out to a wreck that had been previously d...ived in Caernarfon Bay with a view to retrieving a large net that we had worked on during previous visits. On the journey to the wreck, the conditions took a turn for the worse and the crew battled the RIBS through a very blustery 2 metre swell. On arrival at the wreck, our dive leader took the sensible decision to call off the dive on safety grounds. We will return to the wreck soon to retrieve this huge net which is a serious hazard for local marine wildlife. On the upside the crew of Phantom were treated to a short display from some local bottlenose dolphins much to their pleasure.

In July, Icelandic whalers shocked the world when they harpooned and killed an incredibly rare whale, thought to be a hybrid between a blue whale and a fin whale. And now, a little over a month later, the whalers have killed another one...

Photos taken by our Canadian drone pilot of the Miðsandur whaling station in Hvalfjörður, the active whaling ships Hvalur 8 & 9 which have killed 111 Endangered whales since the 19th of June and the rusting hulks of the ships Hvalur 6 & 7 which Sea Shepherd scuttled in 1986. Currently the two ships (8 & 9) are tied up unable to go whaling for several days due to strong winds and very rough seas off the West coast of Iceland. Sea Shepherd UK's crew have been operating in Iceland on 'Operation Mjölnir' since the 18th of June monitoring Hvalur hf's whaling station in Hvalfjörður and the two whaling ships Hvalur 8 and Hvalur 9 throughout the entire whaling season.

SILENT SLAUGHTER: THE SHOOTING OF SCOTLAND'S SEALS
When five dead seals were discovered by tourists on a beach in the Shetlands, presenter Lizzie Daly, travelled up with a team of filmmakers to document what had been found and uncover the shocking links between deliberate seal deaths and salmon farms, some of which are RSPCA Assured (the RSPCA's ethical food label dedicated to farm animal welfare)
