About Seba'S Photo Lab

A page about photography and (if happens) travels. Photographer based in Portsmouth, UK. Mainly portraits, street and some landscape photography.

Seba'S Photo Lab Description

Working abroad changed my life and eventually the change led me to visit several places, meet new people and approach different ways of thinking.
All these experiences were helping me growing and therefore would have become part of me forever. However I started to notice that my very weak memory didn't allow me to remember where and how I experienced given situations.
I started to become frustrated more and more often about not being able to link feelings and faded memories to specific places, persons or events.

That’s when I realized how important photography could be for me. Documenting the best events of my last 10 years gives me the possibility to return to those places without the stress to realize to have forgotten something beautiful that happened in my life.

Like it happens to anyone, photography also trains your eye and therefore I started to see the world in a different way, firming up details in my mind so that those memories would become harder to fade.

Of course it’s also a lot of fun too, but since for me it’s very easy to get obsessed with everything, I prefer to approach photography without commitment, so that I can go out taking photos only when I feel like to. Laziness, though, is a dangerous and vicious enemy : ).

I currently live in Portsmouth, UK. I take photos for fun, but if you like my stile and you have a commission in mind, let me know and we will see if can be arranged. You can contact me through my instagram or facebook page or leaving a comment here.

Let's put in this way, I don't like doing what everyone else can do (better), so I was torn about doing this, but it was useful to learn (which is currently my point)

Modelling is all about confidence

Temporary change of style and went full black and white with the last session. What do you think? It made me realise I will need to use more wide angles for studio photography.

Preparing a new set, let's see if I can shoot tomorrow with a new model

A new post on my blog with the last photos with Wura. I didn't put them on facebook because the compression kill them, however I don't think on my web site they are much better, so it may be due to lightroom compression, let me know how you see them, strangely I can see them well on mobile but not on desktop.

Little help to choose one?

Third shoot in studio, I am still far from mastering the lights. Wura helped me this time. What I learned today: I need to build flags and still understand how to position the lights properly. This photo is made with a beauty light, a soft box on the side and a gelled flash for the background.

Taco is helping me with the editing of my new photoshoot with Wura...or is he?

For the last set, I wanted to experiment with new materials. What if we use bubblewraps? Sophie styled a dress in few minutes et voilà! A bit of a crazy experiment 😛

Another Photo from the photoshoot with Sophie. I love the colors, what do you think?

BTW the final post process version of the first photo is this one

This will very likely not be the final version of the post processing, but I am having so much fun with it :D Esme Shard

We worked on three different sets with Esme Shard. This is one of my favs of the yellow set. Let's be clear, we were experimenting, still fighting technical issues on my side. I will need to master lighting before really expressing myself with creative setups, but meanwhile Sophie did a great job, didn't she?

I finally found a valid alternative to Picasa! Picasa wasn't able to read the K1 raw, huge problem, had to stop using it. However nothing was close to it, not even paid ones (acdsee is horrible).
Finally though I found out about digikam https://www.digikam.org/, it has the same functionalities and very similar UI!
Woohooo!

Two quick test shots, stupid lights always in the way. At the moment I don't use colored backgrounds, but a gray background filled by flashes with gels. Well I am learning how to control the leakage of the flashes. There are tricks, even in the small places like mine. Still figuring out if a colored background could be better. Colored backgrounds are also complicated, as they could badly reflect the light of neutral flashes, washing out.

Started to work the photos of the new photo shoot with Esme Shard! I wonder what they will be like. Still figuring out how to optimally use the lights in my small studio!
