About Selby District Vision Official

Here to help sight impaired people in the local Selby District areas. Resources, equipment, clubs, activities and more.

Selby District Vision Official Description

Selby District Vision is a local charity committed to helping people experiencing sight loss, within the Selby District. First established in the early 1960’s, then registered officially as a charity in the early 1980’s, Selby District Vision has been assisting local people for over 50 years.

There are an estimated 2, 000 people living with sight loss in the Selby District today. We are dedicated to reaching those individuals, assisting and supporting them however we can.

We aim to meet the needs of visually impaired people by providing information, resources, social and recreation opportunities; promoting independence. Striving to involve the wider community in our work, we provide the public with visual awareness opportunities and have regular community fundraising events.

Receiving no state funding, we rely entirely on fundraising, legacies and donations to continue our work. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation.

We are members of Selby Advice, if you would like to find out more about our network, please follow www. selbyadvice.org. uk

It's that time of year when most of us are writing Christmas Cards to our friends and family. It's also a time of giving.
Perhaps, you may have decided to stop sending Christmas cards as the cards and stamps are so expensive.
In that case would you like to help Selby District Vision by sending a gift online. You can do that via BT MyDonate and if you pay pay tax, you can gift aid it.
... Or if you just want to help SDV continue their good work in Selby District this is where you need to go https://mydonate.bt.com/donation/v4/choos eAmount.html…
If you make a donation, thank you ever so much but can i wish everyone a happy Christmas and a good new year.

I am so delighted to put this post online.
SDV obtained a grant from the Eastern CEF in Selby District to go into Primary Schools but it's best to let you read the full story.
Can I thank Emily Havercroft for all her work on this project.
... May I include a link to our fund raising page on BT MyDonate as like every other charity, we need money to continue our work. https://mydonate.bt.com/charity/search-re sults.html…

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Edward Young, one of our trustees and husband to Anne, has died. I and my fellow trustees would like to offer our condolences to Anne and the rest of the family. Edward’s funeral will take place at St Laurence Priory, High St, Snaith, Goole, DN14 9HW on Friday April 27th at 11.15 am followed by cremation at Pontefract.

Delighted that the Selby Times have highlighted our brilliant concert at Selby Abbey last Saturday. I have quoted that we raised £1319 but have since found out we also have gained £62.50 in donations. That will help us so much. Thank you to the Otley Brass Band and the Selby Music Centre for playing for us and to Selby Abbey for hosting us. And to all who joined us on the night, thank you so much.

We've updated the website and you can now hear the full Jonathan Cowap Broadcast at the Vision Fit Session at Selby College. It's a brilliant piece http://www.selbydistrictvision.co.uk/bbc- radio-york/

I've just returned from the Bradford Alhambra where a large party from Selby District Vision enjoyed one of their "Audio Described" performances.
Billy Pearce headed the cast in Cinderella and I have to say that it was superb. Billy is a consumate panto performer and he involves the audience from the off. Young and old were laughing from the off and I have to admit to wiping away tears at times.
Can I just thank our ladies at SDV for organising the trip, I don't know who did ...what, but everybody loved it.
This could even turn into an annual trip as the Alhambra look after us all so well.
I went up to the staff after the performance to thank them and asked them to pass on our thanks to all of the cast.
My thanks to Tesco for providing us with a going home snack.
But lastly, I see that the panto goes on until the 28th of January and I would urge you to get tickets (they are available) You will not be disappointed.

A big thank you to Tesco's in Selby who allowed us to collect for Selby District Vision. I managed to take a swift picture (my only one in focus)! and they are, from left to right - Sophie, Joanne, Gail and Denzel. Too early to say how much we collected but I have to say folk seemed to be generous.
May I therefore take this opportunity to wish everyone a Very Happy Christmas and thank everyone involved with SDV for their help over what has been a brillant year. JC

Please listen to something very special.
Jonathan Cowap visited the Vision-Fit classes at Selby College organised by Selby District Vision and was knocked out by what was happening.
Go to this link and then to 1:11:50 where you can then hear a brilliant broadcast from Jonathan on how Selby District Vision and Vision Fit helps visulally impaired people. It also highlights the role of the group leader, Jo Sparks and Selby College students.

Not long now before the old £1 coins go out of circulation. Can I ask all those with the SDV Piggy Banks to empty said porcine pals and bring the contents into our office or pass on to one of our staff/trustees. That way if we have old £1 coins we can take them to the bank. Thank you all.

I am delighted to announce that Selby District Vision now have an online donation page at BT mydonate. https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/selbydi strictvision
This means that we can accept donations worldwide from anyone who supports our aims. You are able to make a one off donation or sign up to support us on a regular basis and also gift aid your donation, thereby increasing the amount by 25%.
In addition, we now have the facility to highlight anyone who is taking part in a sponsored event or challenge. Indeed, we have a gem of an idea for a special event which would take place in Selby. Please let us know if you are taking part in any special events and wish to support our charity.

At the Selby Fun day, today, Sunday June 18th. Well, Sue Ryder realised that I was taking a picture! And then one of me, John Cattanach, with Eva Lambert, the Deputy Mayor of Selby Town Council who we have to thank for putting on such a brilliant event. I think I should have had a shave though!

An article from the Selby Times which highlights the IT Training that we have been doing and promoting, this time in conjunction with O2.
