Selina aspires to capture the interesting forms and structures found in nature, culture and spontaneous layered pattern through her jewellery designs. Her ideas begin by referring to a particular object or shape from which multiple drawings and sketches are produced. The development of this initial stage culminates in the creation of a further intriguing form. This form is then repeated, layered and simplified to construct a new structure or a complete new piece of jewellery. It is imperative to Selina to manipulate the initial inspiration and create her own interpretation of it until it has become far removed from the original and a distinctive, fresh outcome is achieved. In addition to being inspired by nature, culture and pattern Selina looks to other people’s style in everyday life and the jewellery they wear to influence her ideas. This can also result in the invention of new compositions for jewellery collections or a new individual piece.
Jewellery collections are designed by Selina with the view to produce statement and occasion pieces which are aesthetically striking and original. There is a consideration that jewellery must be seen either for colour or an interesting shape and this is portrayed by the complementary use of coloured stones or the use of specific chains in her work. Selina regards details like these to make a piece resolved and complete.
Constantly evolving her collections and developing her style, Selina identifies new directions and ideas in the pieces she is working on at any one moment in time to compose renewed designs, aspiring to create a different range of jewellery each year.
