The ceremonial recreation of the cleaning of Black 5 No. 45110 has begun!
The Master Neverers Association (MNA) was well known for its cleaning exploits between 1965 and 1968, when hundreds of locomotives received MNA attention, including No. 45110 ahead of its famous appearance on the last steam hauled train on British Railways.
Some of the original 'Master Neverers' are in attendance today; such wonderful memories!

Words cannot describe my feeling! I mean wow first time everyone i was with the West Midlands Railway adoption team and the whole Severn Valley Railway was so friendly accommodating and said hello I was shouting hello from the train near the stations and platform staff and had staff @ Bridgnorth was great plus that gentleman with the model railway even said hello and many waves! thank you for a great experience the team can be proud of their achievements and what a wonderful railway set in the most beautiful part of worcestershire & Shropshire with The rolling bills and the forests I will definitely be returning !

By the way the 1940s theme at Kidderminster look great like looking into James may 's head

Well done

User

What isn't there not to like about SVR, the line improves year on year. Looking forward to when the new work is finished at Bridgnorth station. Well done to all the volunteers who make it the success it is.

User

What a great experience again , love this train and all the staff who are so happy along the line . It's better in the sun along the way as everything is in full bloom even all the lovely gardens at the stations.

User

We love visiting the severn valley and it is our second time doing the 1940's day, we enjoyed dressing up even if it was very hot, I think next time we will stick to the second weekend as we found it wasn't as busy, I would recommend people visiting

User

We had an absolutely great day! None of the 5 of us had ever been before and we’re now saying why on earth not ! Bit of a delay on our return trip but this so didn’t matter and we all loved remembering the steam experience, including the soot coming through the open windows lol. Well all be back!

User

We had a great evening it was loads of fun and the fish and chips at Bridgnorth were superb. We had such a laugh with the SVR staff on the train. I would definitely recommend.

User

Visited yesterday 30th June for the 1st time to experience the 1940s event WOW it was amazing everyone makes so much effort

We started at Kidderminster st our plan was to travel to Bridgenorth st then visit every st on the way back .

Unfortunately we missed the 1st train out so got on the next one which had trouble getting up a hill and had to back up and make another run at it this delayed it getting to Bridgenorth and had a knock on effect throughout the day

We stopped for something to eat at Bridgenorth then got on the 2.10 train back but it didn't leave the st until nearly 3pm it was very hot on the train and busy people standing too

The train then had to stop again several times to allow trains comming in the other direction to pass altogether it took 2hrs to get back to Kidderminster st ( we decided to stay on the train due to the delay because of parking ) we was very hot and thirsty as had drank our drinks and there was no refreshments facility on the train .

We will return .

User

Very enjoyable day out. Not cheap by far but certainly offers value for money for a good day out at various stops along the route offering various activities. Certainly will be going back again at some point soon.

User

Thank you for a great couple of days attending your Diesel Gala! I doubt you'll see the range of motive power you had on offer anywhere else! It was spectacular! Would have loved to stay for longer and got rides behind the loco's I didn't get the chance to ride behind like your fleet of Class 50's! To make up for that I will be attending the 50's at 50 event in early October! Also considering the Steam Gala too! Coffee and matchsticks at the ready for that one if I stay all night! There's also plenty more I didn't do! I will do all that next time! THANK YOU once again for an amazing time!

User

My husband and I visited here yesterday it was my birthday we had a brilliant day we really loved the train Ride. We visited the Engine house at Highley it was excellent plenty to see. The meals in restaurant was excellent a very welcoming and friendly lady did a kind gesture a muffin with a candle in for my birthday Thank you Debbie. Highly recommend the Engine house

User

I took my 2 boys on the svr today even though it was raining when left it wasnt to bad weather wise :-) and they absolutly loved it from kidderminster to highley then on to bridgenorth the man that stamps your tickets even let the boys wear his hat so they could have photos on with it on and they loved it we plan on taking them again in the 6 weeks holiday :-)

User

Fabulous trip from Bridgnorth to Highley and back. Lots of steam and whistles and lovely friendly staff. Great to even have a buffet carriage, well stocked. A brilliant day out and I'm definitely going again soon. Highly recommended!

User

Excellent day today at the Class 55 Deltic Driver Experience. Cracking weather, superb staff and a remarkable heritage Diesel made the experience something to remember.

We all had plenty of time acting as driver and second man and riding in the rear cab. Lots of time at Bridgnorth, a good look round the Diesel shed and plenty of time (and lever pulling) at the Bridgnorth signal box.

Not a cheap day out by any stretch, but excellent value to get a chance to drive one of these amazing loco’s.

User

Diesel Gala Saturday 19th May 2018. From start to finish the day was great. The amount of guest engines and own fleet was amazing mixing the old with the new. There’s nothing better than hearing the trash of a diesel which the 37 obliged very nicely on the late run. Only disappointing thing was the bars on the windows of the London stock coaches and the lack of coaches for some of the runs, literally we were rammed in like cattle, standing room only. But overall I had a fantastic time well done everyone for a great Gala.

User

Alway go to the 40s weekend at the SVR.Brillant ,enjoyable day(s)as always.Good weather, great concert as the sun went down over Kidderminster. Would book now for next year if possible. Also met Robert(dressed as an American medic, his partner June?? and her friend deb(a nurse at the city hospital). The girls were very smart in their polka dot dresses and matching hats/gloves and shoes.,.(on the 9.45a.m. ex Kidderminster),Saw them dancing to the music of the big band .Excellent day.

User

A fantastic day out today - the weather helped... !

..but wow! The work which has gone into ‘dressing’ the stations in 1940’s style was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyable day! & many thanks for the volunteers and staff who helped.

User

My mother and I went to the 1940's weekend. And it was brilliant. The staff on the trains and platforms were very helpful for my mother, who is disabled. The prices of food and drink were reasonable at the cafes at all stations. Plenty of places to sit and if shade was needed there were places to sit in the shade also. I know this bit is hard to do but easier access over the railway lines at Bewdley would be good as mum wasn't offered this and had to go over bridge. Was offered easy access at Bridgnorth and Harley, but not Bewdley. Thanks for a brilliant day

User

Lovely day out, had a super time going from bewdley to Highly, my daughter just loved the train ride and play in the engine house so much to see and do, gift shop had some beautiful toys in and very fair in price, would of given 5 star but man in ticket office at bewdley office gave us the wrong ticket to start with.... failed to tell us about the extra charge of 6.50 to enter the engine house (even when stating that's where we're going to) maturer lady on the desk at the engine point blank would not let us in, wouldn't let me explain our bank card we're left in our cards in bewdley as they were in my phone case, left by mistake, we had 3 pound with us but everything we needed for my toddler thankfully, in this blazing heat with my toddler she still wouldn't let us in, I understand prices and why they are charged and would of happily paid, but when you actually buy tickets to go to the engine house would of nice to be informed of this, lady kept saying you don't have a full line ticket and if we had it was free entry...... So it was 12.50 to get to Highley then extra 3 to get to bridgenorth 15.50 so that's cheaper the 12.50 ticket plus 6.50 why wasn't this explained it doesn't even make sense!!! After ringing the head office the railway did finally let us in, kinda put a downer on our day, would go again but will make sure we know exactly what we're are paying for! And will be avoiding that lady, however Would like to know what a full line ticket is as we didn't get on a kidderminster just bewdley but she said if we had gone upto bridgenorth then we would of entered for free?? So what if I lived in Arley and got on the train there to go just 3 stops is that free entry??? So confusing and unfair!! Have been on the train before for meals that part of the railway is amazing and lovely friendly staff, Shame the lady in the engine house let's it down, spoke to a few people they felt the same about her, the younger girl dawn was extremely helpful and kind to us.

User

The railway and the majority of the staff are fantastic and really enjoyed it however the one woman on the train back who was serving refreshments was incredibly rude and spoilt the trip for us. We got off the train at the next stop and waited for the next train where the staff were very friendly as were the staff at the engine shed and station we waited at. Would def recommend this as a day out! Shame one rude member of staff had to ruin the day
