The location is fantastic and very quiet. It's so dark at night that you can see the stars sparkling brightly in the sky. Even though there was a live singer in the bar we did not hear any noise in our room.
The house itself is lovely with an old English charm. It's true that the floors are wonkey and the lift is slow. But the building has only two floors so you can't expect a high speed lift to shoot you through the floor.
A lot of younger people and families have been there. And even though there was a bus full of people present, it was never crowded.

The covers in the bed could be a bit thicker for this time of the year. I saw a duvet in the wardrobe but I m not one to use it without sheets. So I whish they would have had a thicker duvet in a proper duvet cover.

The bathroom is definitely in need of some updating and the cleaning staff could be a bit more thorough as I found two dark hair on the sink at arrival. Also the room was not finished by 4.00pm as we came from a day trip and walked into a vac in our door, beds were just made, towels still on the floor and the sink was not even wiped at all.

The English breakfast was pretty cold and the continental offered only toast and jams. No bread rolls, croissants, cheese or cold meats as we are eating it on the continent for breakfast.
And that any etap hotel offers when they offer a 'continental breakfast'. However there was a selection of juices, of timned fruits, yoghurt and cereals plus müsli. Which was quite nice. When you chose a table closer to the 'buffet' you will be shaken by the steps of the other guests passing by on their way to the food. So chose your place wisely.

The 'gym' is a selection of tread mills and a bench to push weights. The pool tables are one small one with a 50p charge and a free giant one. There is also a dart and a table tennis table.

A nice big tv in the room with enough channels to relax in the room. The short tap made it difficult to fetch water to fill the kettle in the room.

The staff was friendly and helpful.

I would go back if I am in need of some quiet time.

If you are aged 20 or over, choose another hotel, as the youngest party was about 50 years old..
The hallways reek and the FLOORS are wonky, with a semi-rude staff team at reception a d waiters.
Parking is not sufficient for full house, food is TERRIBLE and overpriced.
The history brochure contained a hilarious amount of spelling mistakes, the lift was excruciatingly slow, and the games room required guests to pay, to play pool, even with charging room prices equal to 5 star hotels.
The rooms windows only open less than 15cm, letting no air in, and going in the summer, nights were very warm.
"Double beds" are 2 singles stuck together, so you may find yourself uncomfortable with the gap in the centre, and you will lose small objects there.
The only positive factor was the breakfast.

Dirty, Mouldy rooms. The meals are microwave meals that are horrible to eat and are astronomically priced for what you get. Could buy better at Iceland.

Here now and loving it! The staff put my son and I in a triple room and it is lovely. Really cosy and the bathroom is beautiful. Room feels clean and fresh. I already can't wait to come back. Yet to try the food. Staff are super helpful and friendly from reception to bar to room attendants. I feel completely confident being a single mum here. It's wonderful.

A lovely isolated location for a fairly large hotel, though being in a dip in the landscape the views aren't extensive. Wonderful to be able to walk 100 metres from the front door and see red squirrels. Rooms slightly dated but clean, tidy and comfortable. Friendly service.

Stunning location, nice facilities, very helpful and attentive staff (couldn't have helped more). But, Wi-fi quality kept falling so made it tricky to work as the signal didn't support very well and because of lovely remote location the mobile signal wouldn't be strong enough.

Lovely rural setting. Hotel with interesting history. Clean and cosy. Great staff.

Remote, quite place. A place for nature walk and relaxation. There is a wood near by with river and wild life that you can spend your time alone or with your family.

The hotel is situated in a location with moorland views on the edge of the Lake District. It has easy access from the M6 and A6. All the staff were warm and friendly, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The hotel is old and has many original features, giving it a cozy country feel. The dining room is quite grand and is very much of the Art Deco period. In the room we stayed in, bathroom had recently been refurbished. Food was reasonably priced and well presented. As an added bonus, free WI-FI is available throughout the hotel. I would recommend the hotel if you are looking for somewhere with a traditional country feel within easy access to explore the Lake District and surrounding area.
