About Sharpham Wine

We are a vineyard, winery, cheese dairy set on the banks of the River Dart in South Devon. Cellar door shop, guided, self guided tastings available.

Sharpham Wine Description

Sharpham Parnership Ltd originally starting making cheese in 1981 from the 18th century coachyard creamery of Sharpham House, on the 550-acre Sharpham Estate. The estate is nestled in a sheltered position, on the western banks of the River Dart two miles downstream of the ancient market town of Totnes in South Devon, and is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our cheeses are unpasteurised and are made with vegetarian rennet. They have been so well received that demand now far exceeds supply, and we now operate from a purpose built cheese dairy on the estate. The dairy sits alongside our winery, where we make our own international award winning variety of still and sparkling English wine, from the grapes grown in the estate’s very own 10-acre vineyard. Sharpham Partnership Ltd is run by Mark Sharman, a Devon-born and bred, third generation dairy farmer and winemaker.

This time last year the snow was clearing in the vineyard and the vines were still dormant...
A different story here with selling in the canes and bud burst looking imminent.
Chances of frost from now to end of April are high so fingers crossed this mild weather sticks and we get a nice long growing season!

We recently transferred our 2018 Pinot Noir into barrel where it will now soften, develop and slightly mature. - So far it’s all shaping up very nicely indeed! We also upped production due to both higher yields and also higher demand for our Pinot Noir! - Our current 2017 is easily our bestseller at the moment but there are very small amounts left!... - #pinotnoir #redwine #englishwine #englishvineyard #wine #winemaking #winemaker #winery #southdevon #englishwinemovement

We can’t wait for Dan, Charlie and the team to resume service for the season! • • If you haven’t been down to sample any of their carefully planned, seasonal, local and foraged dishes before then you need to from 8th April onwards!

Blending day at Sharpham! Here we taste many tanks to decide on the 2018 blend of our Dart Valley Reserve. • • We’re moving through the 2017 fast so no doubt we’ll see the 18 in the coming few months. •... • All bottles lined up are from the variety Madeleine Angevine. We’re trying to select out the cleaner, fresher and slightly more floral tanks for our Estate Selection 2018. • • We will then carefully blend the remaining until we’re happy we’ve got our Dart Valley style! • • #wine #winemaking #winemakers #winery #blending #englishwine #whitewine #englishvineyard #winetasting #englishwinemovement

Wonderful place. Great food. Stunning location. I've been twice, once in August when the vines have plenty of growth and yesterday (April) with vines budding. Both times enjoyed a wonderful stroll of the vinyard taking you along the banks of the River Dart and a delicious meal in the cafe. Top day in my view!

User

What a lovely afternoon at Sharpham 'Vine to wine and cheese tour'. A really chilled atmosphere, informative and fun. Totally recommend! We wished we had booked to have a meal too as the food looked amazing Xx

User

We came to the Vineyard tour yesterday and decided to have lunch in the cafe beforehand. Lunch was excellent & I have left a separate review for this.

The Vineyard tour was also excellent. Both members of staff giving us the tour were lovely, friendly & engaging even with my four year old daughter. Although the guy seemed new in his role (and learning from the lady), he really New a lot. We learnt a fair bit and found his approach spot on. Lovely wines, lovely location & we bought wine & cheese in the shop afterwards as a result.

We happened to be camping on the trust campsite as well. I've left a separate review for this. Where the Vineyard/dairy & cafe receive 5 * the campsite receives 4 *. It is a shame that more is not made of the campsite and the cafe/Vineyard as a package. It would be more popular & bring more money for both the trust & the cafe/Vineyard.

User

Walked along the river from Totnes and had a stunning 4 course lunch at The Cellar Door cafe. Excellent service, wonderful food, and great wine. Then a 'stagger' back to Totnes, fab experience all round.

User

My first visit today for my In Laws 80th birthday treat. Excellent lunch and superb wines. We will be back thank you.

User

Lovely tour, guide was extremely knowledgable, wine was fabulous! Highly recommend a visit :)

User

Informative, interesting and a very enjoyable tour of the Sharpham vineyard with history about Sharpham House too. After a glass of fizz we meandered around the vineyard with appropriate breaks for a tipple of white & rosé and info on the grapes. A lovely stroll along the river bank was followed with samples of red with cheese & biscuits...oh...I should say that it is dog friendly too...our little chap throughly enjoyed his walk and a cheeky taster of cheese

User

Had lunch yesterday all good fresh food have been before and would recommend it to anyone lovely setting too

User

Had a fantastic afternoon at Sharpham, at £9.90 the walk of the vineyards followed by a tutored tasting of 3 wines and 2 cheeses is excellent value and very informative for anyone who's interested in food and drink. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to Sharpham!

User

User

Did the guided taste of wine and cheese at Sharpham. Tom was very knowledgeable and a great host. Would highly recommend the Estate white and the sparkling rose of which we came home with 3 bottles.

User

Despite the rain we had an amazing tour of the vineyard and wine tasting from Tom and Tasha. Amazing wine and great tour guides!

User

Brilliant! Had lobster and crab salad and sparkling elderflower as well as some good wine of course. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Fabulous place!!

User

Beautiful location, and lovely food. Just a few minor points....the waitress didn't mention the specials board when we sat down, and it wasn't visible from where we sat (obscured by group at a table). So we didn't see it till after we ordered! Another thing, the mezze dish at £14, had only 2 very small pieces of chicken, which were delicious, but could be a bit more generous with the portion for the price! The patatas bravas starter was great, nice big portion, enough to share. They have a wood burning oven there now, which is a great idea, but I don't think it is promoted on their menu very well. I thought my prawns would have been cooked in this oven but they were small shell-on cold prawns. The wine was gorgeous (Dart Valley Reserve), and the lime and ginger cheesecake was amazing!!

User

Awesome! Delicious wine and cheese! Knowledgable tour guide

Absolutely wonderful day at Sharphams today. Cheese and wine tour, followed by meal. Great staff, great wine, great food, all round fantastic experience. Would do it all again, and hope I do!
