Sheffield Sling Surgery And Library

About Sheffield Sling Surgery And Library

The home of sling support in Sheffield: sling library, consults, workshops, run by Dr Rosie Knowles and her friendly trained team of volunteers.

Sheffield Sling Surgery And Library Description

The Sheffield Sling Surgery and Library has a team of dedicated and trained staff, here to help you learn how to carry your child in safety and comfort. Rosie Knowles is the lead consultant, supported by Kiri Porter, and several others too, plus a team of peer supporters and volunteers!

The Surgery has the largest sling library in the region, with over 500 slings, coats and accessories available for hire. These can be hired from the library sessions at the Surgery's permanent home (The Snug on Leadmill Road) from consults or workshops, or by fast-track arrangement from the Sling Spot shop next door.

The Snug is the location for the popular 4th and 5th Trimester sessions, the Slings in the City Thursdays, Sling Fridays and the Saturday Slings drop ins.

We also run monthly branch drop ins at other locations around the city - from S5 to Sharrow, the Hope Valley to Stocksbridge, Handsworth and Hackenthorpe, as well as a Ladies Only meet.

Dates and times for workshops will be advertised here and in the Sheffield Sling Surgery's Virtual Community groups and on the website (www. sheffieldslingsurgery. co. uk)

Pre and post-natal sessions are available. There are appropriately weighted demonstration dolls available for practising and there is a large range of slings that may be borrowed to try out at home.

Much more information is available on the website (www. sheffieldslingsurgery. co. uk)

What’s the best bedatorial you’ve had?
My 3 year old did this the other night and to be fair it was pretty impressive with some quite complex reasoning and problem solving. Although it did involve unicorns but hey...🦄🌈
My teacher brain was very impressed.
... My parenting brain nearly imploded with sleep deprived frustration. GO. TO. SLEEP. NOW.
I now feel better that this process has a name!!
Anyone else?!

This is a long overdue review, as I've had the benefit of advice and help from the surgery for about 2yrs with my baby girl, who was not at all happy in the slings I'd used with my older child... And very vocal in telling me! It made all the difference to find a sleepy nico and then we moved up to a Tula. Rosie and Rob were so helpful in finding me that in the pattern I loved too. Thank you for everything you do for the parents, grandparents, carers and of course babies and children of Sheffield (and beyond!)

The sling surgery and related events are an amazing resource to help local families. We borrowed three different slings before we found our perfect fit. It was great to have such a wide range of slings available for hire and very knowledgeable and well trained volunteers on hand to advise us of the correct way to use them. We've also done workshops on more advanced techniques such as using woven wraps and back carrying. Both were great.

User

Thank you so much to Amelia today who took the time to explain two different types of slings and understood my baby brain! Everyone is so lovely and approachable. I would recommend to anyone thanks again and I’m looking forward to trying my sling out tomorrow.

User

Rosie is truly special and completely dedicated to babywearing, anyone within the area gaining advice from any of her team would be very lucky indeed.

User

Rosie is sling consultancy at it's best. I could never thank her enough for all the support and help she has given me along my baby wearing journey. She's incredible! Under her guidance we've gone from newbees to peer supporters running demo sessions at local children's centres. Her peer supporter course is simply fabulous. She's given me the courage to help other mum's share those special sling memories with their own children. I truly believe I wouldn't have the bond I have with my son if it hadn't of been for Rosie. I get teary remembering all the special snuggles me and my man have. Thank you Rosie. And thank you for welcoming me to join the slings in the city gang. Its an honour to demo alongside you :-)

User

Rosie has been excellent introducing me and my partner to baby wearing, through 1 to 1 consultations, sling rentals and the 4 T group. Have recommended to many of my friends with young babies who have also gone on to access the world of slings via Rosie's sessions. Great that you can hire slings to see if they are suitable before purchasing.

User

Rosie and her team are amazing!! I've used Rosie's knowledge and expertise since I began slinging my now 2&1/2 year old, and have started all over again with my 2nd! This is the first place I point people who ask me about slings! Her none judgmental and 'all carrying matters' approach makes her the perfect person to promote the use of slings and carriers! Xx

User

My wife and I attended the library this morning. Of all the pre and post natal groups/sessions we've attendees this was up there with the best. Rosie and Lindsay provided fantastic guidance and information and the group of people were really friendly.

We bought a stretchy sling based on the demo and info from Rosie. I was able to proudly walk away with my newborn daughter tucked safely against my chest.

I would highly recommend that anyone interested in using a sling attends.

User

Massive thank you to Kiri for all her time and support this morning in helping my partner and I explore sling wearing! She’s really helped me to feel more confident about it and what an amazing service the sling library provides to Sheffield!

User

Jess was so helpful this morning when we visited to find a sling for our nearly 6 week old. We’re really excited now to use our new sling and get out and about. Many thanks

User

It’s bspkutely brilliant. I can’t rave enough about Rosie and the peer supporter team! Super inclusive of same sex couples too ! Xxxx

User

Incredible support for all aspects of carrying babies and amazing general advice! It’s so good to be able to come and chat to other parents about anything and everything baby related as well as try out lots of types of slings in such a positive and welcoming environment

Free stretchy hire for babies up to 6 weeks is amazing and just allows everyone to keep their baby close in those first crucial weeks. Such an all round invaluable service!

User

I visited the sling library for the first time, I was considering an ergo but wanted to give one a try first. Rosie was so helpful, she had me up and running with it so quickly, can't wait to get out and about with my little boy!

User

I attended a Sling Surgery workshop and it was brilliant! Rosie made me feel at ease, explained not just the how's but the whys (so much better than watching video tutorials!) and gave lots of trouble shooting tips. I feel so much more confident using my sling now and couldn't recommend Rosie and the surgery more.

User

Found the perfect carrier for my boy. Highly recommend the surgery for new Mums and Dads to feel the benefits of slings as early as possible (especially when the babes are light!). Great range of workshops on offer too.

User

Extremely pleased that we visited here today. Kiri was fantastic and really supported us in the first step of our carrying journey with our newborn. My wife and I felt understood, encouraged, and left feeling confident in our decision to try carrying. I would highly recommend.

User

An excellent hub of information & support with far more than slings & baby carrying. It’s also a great place to meet people experiencing a similar stage of being parents. The volunteers are warm & knowledgable- big mention for Nafeesa & Jess who have both welcomed & helped me out 😊💚

User

Amazing place to learn all there is about wraps and carrying babies, super nice and helpful people

User

Always friendly, excellent service and support for parents and carers, and people working here who love babies and children! The advice you get is practical, always puts your child's safety and everyone's comfort first. A wonderful place for families in Sheffield.
