An UNOFFICIAL group for all of those who appreciate the fine piece of public transport that is Sheffield Supertram!

After some opposition initially the first line on the network opened followed soon after by other routes:

Fitzalan Square /Ponds Forge to Meadowhall : 21st of March 1994 (although Nunnery Square and Valley Centertainment opened at a later unknown date and Arena /Don Valley opened on the 22nd of August 1994).

Fitzalan Square /Ponds Forge to Spring Lane: 22nd of August 1994 (although the Sheffield Station tram stop was later moved further south).

Spring Lane to Gleadless Townend: 5th of December 1994

Fitzalan Square /Ponds Forge to Cathedral: 18th of February 1995

Cathedral to Shalesmoor: 27th of February 1995

Gleadless Townend to Halfway: 27th of March 1995

Gleadless Townend to Herdings Park: 3rd of April 1995

Shalesmoor to Middlewood and Malin Bridge: 23rd of October 1995


After refurbishment from an initial South Yorkshire Passenger Transport livery of grey, the trams were rebranded in the early Stagecoach livery to be finally replaced in turn with the current livery by 2007.

The eighteen miles of line will take any traveller to most of the more populated areas of Sheffield with a range of tickets available:

Singles: £1. 50, £2. 20 according to the distance travelled

Tram and bus (Stagecoach) Dayrider: £4. 00 and of most value to those wishing to make at least a return journey

Event return: for travel between University and Lepping's Lane (during the exam periods) or Meadowhall and Arena (on event days).

Children: 70p (5-11) or 70p for 11-15 but MUST be in possession of South Yorkshire Megatravel pass. Under 5s travel for free.

A range of weekly and monthly tickets are also available as detailed on the Supertram web site.

In addition to the tram network, Dayrider tickets allow travel on the Supertram Link service from Middlewood to Stocksbridge, Malin Bridge to Stannington and Moss Way to Killamarsh.
