Sheffield Uk Youth Parliament Description

Sheffield UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) are a group of 6 young people from across the city, who are democratically elected every two years by their peers, to represent their concerns and issues to decision makers locally, regionally and nationally and to campaign on their behalf to influence change.

Every two years 2 young people are elected from the North, East and West of the city, one as an Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) and the other as a Deputy Member of Youth Parliament (DMYP). The young people nominate themselves as candidates and stand for election. In 2012, 18 young people nominated themselves to be a Member of Youth Parliament. UKYP is part of the British Youth Council who nationally co-ordinate the work that the Youth Parliament carry out. UKYP also sit on other groups including Youth Forums and Sheffield Youth Council to ensure they listen to the voice of local young people.
