Meet Arturo Serratos De Vecchi, a member of our Sub-Theme Committee: “In Mexico as in many countries, health access and quality depend on the economic situation of the people. As a general practitioner and a medical science researcher working at the Mexican national institute of public health, I’ve learned from great health leaders who work each day for the benefit of my country, always concerned about the improvement of the Mexican health system. Although several changes have already been made to overcome this challenge, there is still much to be done and well-prepared leaders are needed to achieve it. #SheffWHO2019 will be a great chance for people to share knowledge, improve skills and create networks to improve health quality around the world.”

Meet Neeve McGinty, a member of our Sub-Theme Committee: "As an International Relations and Politics student undertaking modules in Global Health Security, I’ve learned that health is fundamentally political. I am extremely excited to participate in my first #SheffWHO2019 simulation to learn how policy makers and health experts can come together to make real change, but also learn about the challenges this entails. Meet Nirmala Prajapati, our Delegate Coordinator: "An important issue that connects people across borders is the strive for providing health for all. Building on my educational background in public health and sustainable development, I became a part of the SheffWHO organization committee. I come from Nepal, a country so small but rich in culture, diversity and natural beauty, yet facing numerous disparities in health. These health disparities drive my desire to work towards improving global health through combined efforts with like-minded individuals. "The fundamental beliefs that shaped my interest toward public health is the existing disparity in the health status of people around the world, which is unacceptable. Coming from the land of the highest peak in the world, as glorious as it appears, can be challenging as I have witnessed the suffering people experience simply due to a lack of access to proper health care. The economic burden of disease in a resource constraint c...ountry like Nepal is unimaginable. I believe there are vast innovative health approaches to explore in the field of public health that have the potential to bridge this never-ending gap. Meet Hareen De Silva, our Inclusions and Public Relations Officer. "Since SheffWHO 2018, so much has changed for me professionally. Helping to organise SheffWHO and being on the dais gave me the confidence to apply to become chair of my faculty for the Royal College of General Practitioners. I am now the youngest chair in the United Kingdom, which is a true privilege as well as a huge responsibility. How does someone represent the views of 1100 general practitioners (GPs) & training GPs of varying views? Diplomacy! Where can you learn diplomacy? At SheffWHO, that’s where! Over the next week we will be introducing you to the SheffWHO team, starting off with our Secretary and Sub-Theme Committee Manager, Kaodi McGaw: “In Jamaica, the indescribable natural beauty and vibrant spirit of its people contrasts greatly with the realities of social inequalities, crime and violence that have existed there for years. I used to think the issue was hopeless, until I started working with a small yet powerful NGO, gaining small successes, seeing solutions tha...t worked, witnessing communities that became violence-free and meeting the people who have selflessly dedicated their lives to the healing of a nation. It all showed me that hope is not lost, and that the answers exist.
