A message from Mr Martin: As part of Shire Oak Academy's support for the Unicef UK Clean Air campaign, their campaign team have sent a card to students thanking them for all of their hard work in writing postcards to Michael Gove and engaging our local MP, Wendy Morton. They deserve a lot of credit for their hard work. Well done! #TurningPotentialintoExcellence #ASPIRE #UNICEF #cleanaircampaign

A message from Mrs Critchley: Shire Oak hosted the Walsall Schools Year 8 Rounders Tournament 2019 after school yesterday. Year 8 played brilliantly and won all 5 games to win the tournament - a great birthday present for Miss Cresswell! Zakona Red Hinks, Zoe Tolley and Trinity Barnes also played but are unfortunately not in the photo. A huge well done to the team! #TurningPotentialintoExcellence #ASPIRE #rounderstournament2019

Yesterday, 30 students from Shire Oak attended Go Ape in Coombe Abbey. These students, chosen by the 3 house leaders, were rewarded for their commitment to the house system this year. Some students managed to attend over 10 events over the course of the year, ranging from sports such as; dodgeball, football, climbing and badminton to academic events such as geography, literacy, I.T and history.
The day was full of fun activities where students (and staff!!!) were able to trav...erse across obstacles on the tree top high ropes, whizz down 250ft zip lines and overcome their fear of heights (well done Mr Degg) with a jump off a 40ft leap of faith!
All students loved the experience and were extremely keen to plan for next year's house activities so they could repeat their visit. #TurningPotentialintoExcellence #ASPIRE #houseleaders

Before half term, as part of the UNICEF campaign, we had Wendy Morton MP come in to chat to some of our Y8 and Y9 students about their concerns over the environment. A huge thank you to Wendy for listening to their concerns, and for taking them forward to the environment secretary Mr Gove. Mr Martin has had this response back. Well done to our students for their work! #TurningPotentialintoExcellence #ASPIRE

On Wednesday, the 2nd official house cross country and 3rd fun run took place. It was great to see so many runners! In total 71 students attended the event well supported by staff runners (Mr Stone and Miss Chambers) and course volunteers.
All runners ran extremely well and should be commended for their efforts. Special mentions to Sam Hull in Year 10, who has successfully won the job as course hare for next year, winning the 2.6km race in sub 10 minutes and Lucy Dawson for... sacrificing her own position to help run with an injured student at the back of the race.
