Year 10 have been investigating raising agents recently. Today they have looked at batters and how steam causes them to rise. Thank you to the Yorkshire members of staff for this perfect recipe!

Year 7 investigating the fat, sugar and salt content of popular snacks. Ms Kendrick had lots of experiments to show students how to make healthy choices when choosing snacks. Photographed are 7CO using Benedict’s Solution to find out how sugary their drinks are. If the solution turns green or orange, sugar is present.

Freddie in Y10, is in part 2 of Silent Witness - Close to Home - which airs tomorrow night BBC 1 @ 9 pm He plays missing schoolboy, Ben Taylor...the question is is he found dead or alive? How exciting, can't wait to watch it! Well done Freddie.

Olivia and Mia from Y5 enjoyed an afternoon tea with the Headmaster and tucked into a specifically prepared Victoria sponge made by Mrs Morris, complete with homemade blackberry and lime jam. Olivia's mum had won the opportunity as part of the Winter Fayre's silent auction and brought a friend for company. The Headmaster gave them a tour of the study and after tea said, 'We had a lovely chat and the sponge was superb.'

The world's first hand-held CNC router Shaper Origin being demonstrated to pupils by Mr Court in DT. It was donated to The College by former pupil Robert Hemsley, one of the project's lead engineers. Cutting edge stuff! @Shapertools

Y5's George came to the rescue yesterday, saving a beautiful newt from certain death under the feet of our pupils. Narrowingly avoiding being trodden on outside of the junior school doors, the newt was scooped up George unfazed by its slipperiness, taken to the science labs where it recovered in a jar of moist leaves, and then returned to the pond in the Headmaster's garden on Thursday afternoon. Well done George: eco-champion with a big heart.

Tory win over Greens, by a leaf! An excellent mock election this morning - superbly run. The pupils behaved impeccably, voted sincerely, the returning officers were professional and it was a great display of democracy in action. The result? Fascinating: Tories win the seat, by 7 votes (83)... hotly pursued by the Greens (76). Lib Dems into third place..(46)Labour fourth ...(35) And independents driven lower down the pecking order...(10) What does it mean? The school voted ove...rwhelmingly to remain in 2016 and yet have pupils been influenced by the 'get Brexit done' message? Has there been a Thunberg effect as pupils champion the message that something has to be done about climate change before it's too late for future generations? It seems that both factors may be important, though it's always hard to know what motivates the voter in the final moment! Will this result be mirrored nationally? Rory Donovan (member of the Youth Cabinet) predicted a Tory majority of 20 overall... We shall see. An excellent exercise in democracy and FBV's. Well done SC.

'I thought my study was looking very neat, but a little empty' said Mr Taylor-West. "It occurred to me we had plenty of talent in the school and we should be putting it on display more often." It now showcases terrific artwork from Erin, Tegan, Ollie and Rebecca, who won third place in the national ISA competition for her piece, 'the War to end all Wars'.
