Shoreham Community Fire Station Description
Shoreham Community Fire Station, West Sussex (Station 57) is Day Crewed Monday to Friday, supported by our Retained Duty System (RDS) colleagues and solely RDS during the evenings and weekends.
The Fire & Rescue Service in West Sussex is fully integrated within the County Council, and Firefighters work alongside colleagues in Public Health, Community Safety, Trading Standards and Resilience & Emergencies to help communities become safer, stronger and more resilient. They also work closely with other emergency services to reduce risks wherever possible and plan their response to incidents including road traffic collisions, terrorism, or the threat from flooding and weather related disruptions.
Some initiatives we are involved in are:
- Safe and Well visits, ensuring our most vulnerable have working smoke alarms and sign post them to other services that may be able to support them.
- Road Safety Initiatives such as Choices, Impact, Scooter Safe and Safe Drive Stay Alive.
- Make a Difference Day, this is a local initiative where local community groups can get in touch and ask for our help with a community lead project. An example of this was with Eastbrook Primary, where along with their students we cleared their allotments ready to plant fruit and vegetables; supporting health and well being in young people.
Crewing models -
The Day Crew Wholetime (W /T) Firefighters are on duty from 0700-1900hrs Mon - Fri.
RDS personnel respond to alerters (pagers) 24 /7. They must be within 4 minutes away from the Fire Station to respond to emergency calls. RDS train every Monday from 1900-2200hrs
Appliances -
We have four appliances which are crewed by both W /T and RDS:
57P1 - Water Tender Fire Engine WrL
57P2 - Water Tender Fire Engine WrL
57S1 - Breathing Apparatus Support Unit BASU
57M1 - Known as the L4T an for off road use used to deal with fires in areas fire engines cannot access.
