We had a fantastic assembly this morning with Ally from Shrewsbury Children's Bookfest asking the children all about their favourite books and telling us all about their exciting 21st birthday celebrations this weekend. Our Year 6 pupils have done a wonderful job decorating one of the many bookfest balloons that will be hidden around town - they went all out to make their "Mr Stink" balloon as disgusting as possible! Keep an eye out for him this weekend!

We're looking forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Monday - just some information for parents at the Senior School - there are roadworks underway outside the school. The entirety of Town Walls and Claremont Bank are closed. Swan Hill and St John's Hill are open and you are currently able to drive along Murivance between the two. However, this may change next week as they begin laying the new road surface. Please bear this in mind when arranging collection of your children from the school during this time. We will keep parents posted next week if and when anything changes. For full information you can visit shropshire.gov.uk/roads-and-highways

It's been a busy Easter for our Year 8 boys and Year 11 + 13 girls revising for their forthcoming Common Entrance, GCSE and A-level exams - there have been lots of revision sessions going on at seniors over the holidays and today it's GCSE RS in KC3. Our RS department runs a fantastic twitter feed so if you're not already following, now's the time! https://twitter.com/ShrewsHighRS/status/1 121666610735878149

We've welcomed some fantastic girls into the school over Easter to sit 11+ and 13+ entrance exams for September. If you are still thinking about Senior school choices for your daughter for September, why not come and have a look around Shrewsbury High - we are based right in the heart of Shrewsbury and as part of the GDST, the largest network of independent girls’ schools in the country, our girls have access to all the innovation and excitement that comes with being part of this extended family beyond Town Walls. admissions@shr.gdst.net

It’s a big step for children (and parents) joining a new #nursery or #primaryschool but our wonderful #earlyyears staff make the transition as gentle as possible. Girls and boys can join us from the age of 3 into our #kindergarten & you can find out more at our Kindergarten #openday on 15 May. We are really looking forward to welcoming back our SHS Leavers of 1999 to celebrate their 20th Anniversary Reunion back here at Shrewsbury High on 8th June. I know the organisers are doing their best to contact as many former classmates as possible, but if you were part of this year group, or taught here at the time, and haven't already signed up please email alumnae@shr.gdst.net to find out more! (thanks to Louisa for the photos - if you have more, email them in to the address above!).

Year 8, 9 and 10 students practised their directions, places and other important words and structures needed for their upcoming German exams, whilst searching for clues around the school and winning chocolate along the way in Frau Gutman’s clever Easter Egg Hunt!

With just one point separating Neptune and Mercury the House Debating and Public Speaking competition reached a very exciting finale at the end of term. it was all to play for as Anya Kolleth, Holly Osborne, Emily Bruntnell and Willow Dowd represented their houses in front of a very vocal Old Hall audience. Debating on the merits of lowering the voting age to 16, each of the four girls taking part spoke fluently, delivering well researched and engaging arguments with genuine passion and flair. After much agonising from the judges, Neptune were named this year’s overall champions - Congratulations Emily & Willow!.

Four tickets have become available for the Friends of SHS Summer Ball on 22nd June - they are all on the same table so if you would like to snap them up, please contact Antonia on 07971 091538. There is also still time to buy your tickets to this year's Back to the Canteen event on 10th May - a really fun way to start the weekend and this year it's Friday night curry on the menu! See the poster for details!

Year 3's creative curriculum topic on China culminated with a "China Day" celebration. The day started with gentle Tai Chi before moving on to a study of Chinese brush painting and artefacts from the Shang Dynasty. By the end of the day the classroom was full of beautiful paintings and fantastic clay pots and this inspiring topic that has seen the children make their own chinese lanterns to learning to write in Chinese came to a wonderful end!

Curiosity, Adventure & Kindness - 3 things you find in abundance amongst the children in our Pre-Prep. From Kindergarten to Year 2, it's a very special place to spend your first few years at school. If you are making this big decision now for your child, our Admissions office is open over the holidays if you would like to find out more about life at Shrewsbury High Prep for our youngest pupils. admissions@shr.gdst.net 01743 494 038 https://youtu.be/vKRTsccCXxg

I graduated in 1972 from Shrewsbury High School... I turn 60 tomorrow, and just wonder if there is an alumni association where I might trace fellow classmates? It must be my age! In those days I was Yvonne Smith...

User

Graduated in 2006! Loved every minute- great memories!
