Shropshire Sailing Club Description

We are a friendly club that aims to accommodate the interests of individuals, families, keen racers and those who just enjoy “messing about in boats”. Whitemere provides beginners with safe sailing in attractive surroundings but the surrounding trees can give rise to fluky winds which can test the skills of the most experienced sailor. It's a delightful place to spend a sunny summer day even if you don't manage to get into a boat! New members are always welcome.

A very busy time for the club this past week with visits from Year 6 Prees Primary School, and Prees Cubs & Scouts on Wednesday, followed by Year 6 Whixall Primary School on Thursday. To finish off the week a number of adults and young sailors gained their RYA Level 1 & Stage 1 dinghy sailing awards in near perfect sailing conditions.

Short clip from the Committee Boat today. Busy day the club with racers and a Level/Stage 1 RYA course for 2 adults and 9 juniors.

Well done all who raced today. The weather and wind direction was very changeable requiring 4 course changes during the session. As a novice OOD I thank you all for being patient with me. Ian Johnson

‪A dry evening with light winds greeted Wem Explorer Scouts yesterday when they visited the club. Great to meet them and help them enjoy their first taster sail in our club boats.‬‪A dry evening with light winds greeted Wem Explorer Scouts yesterday when they visited the club. A fantastic group of people came together and completed their introductory RYA Start Sailing and Youth Stage 1 awards over the past weekend. Congratulations to everyone and thanks to all the instructors who passed on their skills and enthusiasm of sailing. It is such great and friendly outdoor activity for your health and wellbeing on the waters of Whitemere. Well done everyone. This is only the beginning, Basic Skills and Stage 2 next perhaps?

NEW CLUBHOUSE - UPDATE
Great News - Within a few weeks we will be going out to tender for Phase 1 of the new Clubhouse, which will be changing rooms, toilets, disability changing facilities and new drainage system. We hope to have it complete by October. If you would like more information and you see Chris Cater at the Cub, he would be happy to answer your questions.

Great morning with the youth squad. We have covered stopping, trigger pulls, backwards sailing and roll tacks. Great effort by all with lots of laughter and smiling juniors.

Don’t forget its our Club Regatta this Sunday (12th) let's aim for a record turnout. Even if you've not raced before you will enjoy this great event. We will have club boats for hire if needed.

Morning briefing for our open day. Please come along and join us.

Wow, It was a windy day on Saturday when Storm Hannah turned up at SSC. We still managed to paint the Clubhouse and get loads of other jobs done ready for our Open Day on 5th May. Also our young sailors were out there battling the gusts. Well done everyone!'

Don’t forget to spread the word about our Open Day/Push the Boat Out on the 5th May. Last year we gave over 80 visitors the opportunity to try sailing, many for the first time. It’s a great day out and it’s free, Afternoon Teas available together with refreshments.

Although the weather forecast shows it to be a little turbulent on Satuday morning with Storm Hannah passing through, we would love to see any members who could help with our Spring Working Party
