Our horses are having some excellent therapies at the caring and skilful hands of Barbora. All the horses have benefited greatly from the work Barbora has done with them and we happily recommend her to you. You can see more of her work at her Facebook page. She can be contacted on 07577902397 https://www.facebook.com/animalheartthera py/

Do you shop through Amazon? If the answer is 'yes' then could you do your future shopping through their charitable giving page and select Shy Lowen Horse and Pony Sanctuary to receive a percentage of your purchase value without costing you anything extra. The page to start your shopping is https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ and then it is just the same as usual from there :)

Another very sad day today at Shy Lowen. We lost our beautiful 28 year old arab Katsura. He originally came to us in 2006 after finding himself in difficult circumstances. From 2007 until 2013 he was happy in a loan home in North Wales. He was still very active for two years after his return but was retired in 2015 when the stiffness of his advancing years meant that no more work was the right option. He fell in love with our Angel and they could always be seen spending their time together. She will miss him very much. Gallop free across the bridge Kas. We love you xxxx

We're pleased to say that 'No Kicks, No Sticks' riding lessons are going ahead today

*******SATURDAY LESSONS CANCELLED*******
Sorry to all those booked in today, we're in the process of informing everyone individually. We did try to go ahead with the first couple of lessons, but the continuing torrential rain has defeated us, so we've had to cancel all riding lessons for this afternoon due to soggy horses and a waterlogged arena. Please contact us if you'd like to rebook.

Trustee Shelley is back from completing her fundraising bungee jump on Monday in memory of Teddy, one of the sanctuary's biggest fundraisers. She has so far raised £330 for Shy Lowen, but the page is still open for donations now there's proof she actually did it if anyone would like to add to that total! Thanks so much to those that already have, it's much needed with winter on the way :-)

Urgent - this dog has been stolen from Berkshire.

Shy Lowen Trustee and Teddy's human for the last 26 years, Shelley, was already booked to do a bungee jump in Scotland next Monday to raise money for the sanctuary before suffering his devastating loss last weekend. She has bravely decided to go ahead with the trip and the event in Teddy's memory (he would be proud of her doing something silly and dangerous in his name, especially for the benefit of his friends!) so she would really, really appreciate any of you sponsoring her for any amount you are able, and if you are a tax payer, please add gift aid to your donation, as it means the charity gets an extra 25p for every pound you donate, without it costing you anything. Every single penny helps! Thank you xxx

User

Thank you so much to our very thoughtful friend Gareth at Creating Art for Autism for painting and gifting us this absolutely beautiful tribute to Teddy (and Shelley) after hearing the sad news yesterday xxx

Owing to the continued heavy rain lessons are cancelled again today. We are sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment.

This morning we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let our beautiful, wonderful Teddy cross over the rainbow bridge. Teddy was the only non-rescue horse at Shy Lowen, as he had belonged to the family who started the sanctuary since 1992, and he was the only horse still here who had lived at Shy Lowen since day one in 1999. Although he had a privileged life and was lucky to have always been very well loved and looked after, he worked tirelessly to raise money and awaren...ess for his less fortunate friends and made himself locally famous through public appearances, pony rides, school visits, TV and newspaper features and his work as an equine therapist. He also taught many of our volunteers their riding and horse handling skills, as well as subtly teaching them about life. He was a Haflinger, bred at the Queen's stud, and recently received a letter from Buckingham Palace thanks to some primary school children who wrote to let the royals know how he was doing. Last year, we discovered that at 33 years of age, he was the oldest of his breed in the whole of the UK. Teddy still acted like he was 10 most of the time, despite his age and ill health. He was also clever, cheeky, adventurous, hilarious, caring and gentle but so, so strong and tough at the same time. The world is worse off for his loss and he will be hugely and very sadly missed by all whose lives he touched, but especially his human family of the last 26 years, and his best pony friends, Curly and Tom. RIP SuperTed xxx

Just had a brilliant taster horse riding lesson for me and my children. Was so enjoyable. Staff were all lovely and gave confidence to me and the kids, as we were a bit nervous with not having really rode properly before. Thanks Bernie! Will definitely be returning x

User

If you love horses and ponies, you will love the work at Shy Lowen Horse and Pony Sanctuary, where they are looked after and brought on so well by Bernie and her team. The atmosphere is so serene, I have never felt so relaxed and safe, which in essence is how the horses and ponies who live there must feel.

It is a fanstastic place, run with love and dedication. If you can spare anything to help with costs, please do so. Sponsorship of one of the long-term residents, or a one off donation, it will mean so much to the horses and ponies.

Huge thanks to Bernie for the amazing Discovery Session today with Rolo and Hamish, special thanks to them both.

I cannot recommend this session highly enough, the sense of release and lifting of spirit is amazing. I did have a lot of self--discovery and can't wait to book the full course :)
