Side Rock Cycles Description

At Side Rock Cycles we specialize in building minimalist custom motorcycles.
Cafe Racers, Scramblers, Trackers, Brats whatever you want!

Side Rock Cycles is headed up in Bournemouth by Pete Hodson. Most of Pete’s working life has been in the bike trade including working for the local Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Triumph main dealers and for Sammy Miller.

His lifelong riding passion began when he first slung his leg over his 1973 Garelli Rekord. Since then his eclectic list of bikes owned and tinkered is immense. Highlights include Suzuki T500s, Suzuki X7s, Yamaha RD 250 /400s and LC 350s. Then along came CBX1000, Dresda T500, an ape bared and tasseled Tiger 110! and more recently several Mille and Tuono Aprillias as well as various BMW GS models.

Pete started racing in 1977 and raced until 1985. He won a few club championships and had podium finishes in the Formula 1 Nationals aboard his factory sponsored Rickman Yoshimura GS1000. Although no longer racing he is never happier than when riding fast and can often be found at track days around the UK. Cadwell and Oulton Park being his current two favorite tracks.

Pete will be delighted to hear from you to discuss ideas for next build.

Fabrication on "Rogue" is coming on well. One of our SRC Mono scrambler subframes has had some minor modifications to fit the Paralever frame ( it's pretty similar ) . A full length alloy rear mudguard and a neat LED tail light are now fitted and an original BM rack has been extensively modified to be a quickly detachable unit for the odd trip away. The black seat has just been placed on to get an idea of what the look will be as the finished one will be a slightly different shape and colour. Next up , the high level exhaust.

Great feature on our Guzzi build "Aquila Nera" on their excellent website Return of the Cafe Racers. It's getting quite well known !

"Rogue" Is being stripped and made ready for some fabrication which includes a high level exhaust system , a modified SRC Scrambler subframe and a small quickly detachable rack for the occasional trip away .

" 18 with a bullet " is all done , just a few shakedown runs to do and some adjustments as normal . Here's some before and after shots and the transformation is epic ! A pro photoshoot next with our good pal Leon from Flat Out magazine .

Meet "Rogue" , the next build to arrive at SRC's world headquarters ! This '92 R100R paralever will be transformed into a lithe Street Scrambler with a serious weight loss and all the trick goodies. Should be fun.

Well the dust has settled after the whirlwind that was the Bike Shed Show. This was our sixth year exhibiting there and every year it gets bigger and better and the venue is great. If you've never been , you're missing out ! We took "Argentum" , the R65 based BM scrambler and "Aquila Nera" , the 'Guzzi Le Mans Cafe Racer. Many thanks to the owners , Tim and Stephen for letting us use them for the show. Now they can use them and not worry about getting them dirty !

"Kaizen" the Suzuki TL1000 classic track day project is nearly done . It's been gathering dust for a few weeks while other projects needed finishing . The 'Imola' style half fairing mounts and brackets are done and the new Acewell speedo/tacho is also mounted. Just some wiring to do now and then it's back to Wicked Coatings for a paint job . It's gonna look mean. Congrats to James Hillier , the Bournemouth Kawasaki / Wicked Coatings sponsored rider for his win at the NW200 road races last week. Keep the momentum going for the TT next week

"18 with a bullet "is nearly done . Just waiting on some trick carb parts from the good 'ol US of A , then It'll be up and running. Wiring all done , with just a few cosmetic bits to finish off. Can't wait to do a few shakedown runs !

Come and see us and our two latest builds “Argentum” and “Aquila Nero” Getting exited !

"18 with a bullet " The new satin stainless exhausts are on and look really clean and are a bigger bore . Removable baffles have been fitted but it'll still have a bit of attitude ! Also just collected the tank and rear mudguard from our paint partners Wicked Coatings, and I have to say it's just stunning . Finished in pearlescent black with white inlays and specifically requested graphics , pictures just don't do justice to it . Dave , you're a star !

Just came across this pic from a few years ago . A bit of track action on the Dresda T500 at Mallory Park. With a TR spec engine , Dresda chassis and a weight of only 134kgs , it was a fun bike to ride . Why didn't I keep it !

Getting ready for wiring on "18 with a bullet". All the new Motone push button switches , Motogadget LED bar end indicators , Led headlamp and Acewell speedo are on . The new electrics box has been fabricated and in there will go the Motogadget M-Unit controller , ECU, and the new lightweight Lithium Iron battery. Next up, fit the newly fabricated stainless zorsts.
