Silchrome Plating Ltd, are proud to have been added onto the Approved Vendor List for International Oil & Gas provider, Schlumberger and its associated companies Cameron and One Subsea. The Oil and Gas industries have been through turbulent times recently with a global over-supply forcing down prices for a prolonged period of time, resulting in major job losses and a shake-up of existing suppliers. As profits margins have shrunk, many Oil and Gas companies have re-evaluated t...heir supply chains putting a greater emphasis on both quality and value for money. Oil and Gas Components are known for both their high value and high intricacy and their products need to perform in some of the most extreme of environments on earth. As such many components are protected by the use of electro-plating and conversion coatings. This protective layer will most often be the final process step in a complete component and so is under exacting scrutiny and tight quality controls as not only is the part itself expensive, but the downtime associated with a failure of the part is even more so. “The Oil and Gas sector is a showcase of the high levels of quality Silchrome have throughout our production cycle.” says Production Manager Wayne Oddy “Being an ISO 9001:2008 registered business we have stringent controls in place over every aspect of our production process including two full time chemists who each day test and evaluate the chemical makeup of the solutions in our tanks. Our in house X-Ray inspection unit allows us to test and verify the coating makeup and coating thickness of every job.” Silchrome Plating have invested heavily in the last four years in order to build on their reputation as one of Yorkshire’s most trusted metal finishing providers. This has included a drastic overhaul of their production facilities including the installation of a new large gasket line, new IT systems and continuous improvement training for all staff members. “We already have many customers in the Oil & Gas industry, but this new approval is a fantastic reward for all the hard work and heavy investment we have undertaken in the last 4 years” says Austen Thwaite, Managing Director. “Approvals of this type will give confidence to other companies to use our services and demonstrate our commitment to the highest quality processing together with competitive pricing” The approval process which progressed over a 6 month period including extended on site audits means that Silchrome are now approved to carry out a wide range of metal finishing process for Schlumberger and its clients.
