Whelks/Periwinkles/Sea snails are one of our favourite ingredients. Britain lands over 10,000 tonnes of whelks annually; only to send 95% to the far east. It’s then tinned with soy sauce and sold as an aphrodisiac 💦
... This abundant sea side superstar once was a popular street food. Sold 10 for a penny from the back of a wheelbarrow, now replaced by the slightly more expensive kebab.
The sweet meat of these little sea snails are cooked until tender then sliced alongside steamed summer cabbage, topped with Douglas fir and fermented onion juice 🤤

Blackcurrants mighty cousin Aronia, forged in the fires of mount doom 🌋
These dark orbs are thick skinned, muscular and possess ripe jammy flavour.
... They can be found in dark woods, swamps and our very own ’alley cropping’ farm Namayasai. The dark lord @robinsansai harvests army's of them in the name of agroforestry and deliciousness. Cultivating Aronia is unusual on these isles, these mythical spheres have been summoned to the Silo.
Soon, as the sky blackens and the clock strikes 9, we shall eat their sweet flesh and stain our plates purple, there will be blood.

Now these little nuggets are put to bed, its time to reflect on the mother of this glorious boon.. Blessed be the Elder tree, and all her edible delights..
Her annual metamorphosis births multiple delicious treats.... First we get the ethereal elderflower, giving our nostrils a fragrant orgasm. Next we get a bounty of these little savoury grenades, destined to cause chaos on the plate. Lastly the ripe elderberries; purple peas hanging like a constellation of stars.
In ancient folklore the Elder tree is considered a defence against evil witchery and black magic. In Silo folklore its much the same... Instead warding off evil tripadvisors 🧙🏻‍♀️
