So who am I and what have I done?
I dont mind telling you, it's a little painful to answer!
My name is Tony Featherstone
I left school with a few GCE "O" Levels in the 1970's and joined the cost accounting section of a manufacturing firm.
I started along an eight year journey through all levels of Accountancy to Board Director of Finance for a 200 people strong Cable manufaturer in South London.
I gained Fellowship level membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in 1991 just as the company was bought by the biggest Cable Manufacturer in the World (Alcatel Cable).
I was appointed General Manager of that Plant soon after and became involved in bringing together similar units elsewhere in the European group.
After a spell as European Vice President of Fibre Optic Data Cables for Alcatel, in 1998 I left to start up a family business involving Office plants and Floristry.
Running my own business brought me right down to earth, doing things that owners of all small businesses have to do in the early days, boy was that full of learning curves.
But I got down and dirty into every little thing a small business has to get on with.
10 years ago I became a Management Consultant working both on my own and with a successful small group of consultants who proudly achieved a National Training Award in 2009.
Today I am working harder than ever with small businesses and the self employed, covering accounts and taxation, business strategy and processes, people management and change. . . gosh it really is all about sustainable development.
And I still keep down and dirty in the nitty gritty of running small businesses.
