The hire process was fine. Almost too good to be true. Just £34 for 23 hours which left me trying to work out how they can cover costs. I soon found out...

The van I hired had a long list of bumps, scrapes and scratches which I unfortunately added to with a relatively minor knock to an the side door (which did already have damage listed).

It wasn't highlighted on return but was a few days later via email.

I held my hands up and after hearing nothing for a few weeks I presumed they were withholding my £250 deposit and that was the end of it. Wrong.

A shattering email arrived telling me I'd caused £1850 worth of damage! There was a breakdown of various line items for a the "side" and "rear" door.

What then followed was the most painful customer service interaction I've ever experienced.

Countless emails strung out over several months where a robotic person on the other end failed to answer basic questions including why am I getting charged for the "rear door" that I hadn't damaged (I had to ask that NINE times before they answered).

And to top it off it appears the repair wasn't even done. You get charged for a whole new door (including new stickers!) but it doesn't mean they have to actually have to carry out the work, apparently.

I wonder how may others have been charged for each bump and scrape at an extortionate rate?

I showed the pictures of the damage along with the quote to a body-shop company who advised in order to repair they would not replace the whole door and would instead replace the plastic bumper and knock out the dent at a fraction of the cost I was being told.

I have no problem in paying fairly for the damage and the value lost on the van but this experience felt grossly unfair and a case of huge-faceless multinational vs the little man.

Europcar are being investigated by UK Trading Standards for over-charging customers for repairs. By my experience here Sixt can't even say they're getting the repairs done. It just appears to be part of their business model.

My advice would be if you need to use Sixt take out the most comprehensive insurance you can or if you're unfortunate enough to even cause minor damage you'll find yourself copping for the full excess (in my case £1000 plus admin fees) with no one willing to discuss it in a human like manner.

Not friend staff and they rip people off so avoid and if you want a good company use hertz or thrifty they look after there customer not like sixt who only care about money

Very efficient service. I was in and out within 5 minutes. Neil who was there when I picked up the car was particularly helpful.

This review is entirely based on the customer service I experienced at Sixt Liverpool over the summer. Better late than never! Although Sixt did not have an automatic car available to rent, one employee in particular, Neil, took the time to help my friend and I to the best of his ability. This employee went above and beyond, and even went as far as to driving us across town to find what we were looking for. I hope this man is still working for your company and is on the up to a management position. Best experience ever - thank you, Neil.

Last time I rent from this company in my life! The tyre gone flat suddenly, they kept me waiting for their help for 4 hours! And then they told me that they are going to fix the tyre next morning! And the whole day i paid for was not refunded to me! Moreover, the call centre man was rude and unprofessional.. really bad company

A great service. Have rented four times from this branch and each time been met with courtesy and politeness. Staff always ring before the rental day to confirm and check the vehicle which is nice. On the rental day, staff are quick to check in and review the vehicle to ensure any damages/scuffs are reported and can not be attributed to you on return. A friendly staff set up make renting enjoyable. could not recommend enough! A well-oiled machine!
