Stay at the Skelwith Bridge was first class. Room was great, food was great, staff were first class and they made us and our dog so welcome. Will be back.

Seriously can not understand where people are reviewing after staying here for one night. Two meals cooked in under 6 minutes? Via microwave by the taste of them!
Thought they couldn't possibly get toast wrong at breakfast? Well they did warm floppy bread not toast.
Shower was so slow and lacking in power of any description.
NEVER AGAIN. Very disappointed. 1 * is only because you cant do no *.

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, free Wi-Fi. Food is also nicely presented, but flavour is lacking. The caramel apple pie had whipped cream that had turned into butter, and caramel sauce that was uncaramellishly orange, but, most importantly, it lacked apples.

We recently stayed at the Skelwith bridge hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have stayed around Ambleside a few times now, and found The Skelwith to not only be cheaper than other stays, but also of a much higher quality. The rooms are very neat, modern and quiet. with everything you could need and great views. We enjoyed our meals and breakfast, which I would describe as a high quality pub style menu. Plenty of space for parking, and easily accessible. A nice short drive from both the centre of Ambleside and Windermere. But if say one of the better aspects of our stay was the polite, friendly and helpful staff, who go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Very Rude Landlord: Sadly I have to agree with the previous poor reviews. We recently visited The Talbot bar for a meal. The food came out very fast, too fast to be cooked in a conventional oven. However this was not the main problem, the problem was the landlord was downright rude! One of the meals was not served as stated on the menu when we mentioned this to him his attitude was appalling and he obviously didn't care. In the end offering us £1.50 back as compensation! Bearing in mind our total bill for 2 adults and a child came to over £100. If you have a choice to go elsewhere I would advise you do. The Drunken Duck nearby is far better place, nice food and extremely welcoming staff.

Great Pie, full of meat and great flavour. Sadly there wasn't a good local ale/beer selection and allowing dogs in eating areas is off putting for some, we reserved a table and were sat next to a table with a particularly smelly dog. By all means welcome dogs in but have a separate area for those who do not wish to share their evening meal with scooby and the gang!
