Visited with a few friends on a quiet Sunday night, the staff still managed to make sure there was a good atmosphere so much so that one drink turned into us staying until closing, thank you James, Jamie and Alex for a great end to a great weekend

We booked a table for my mams birthday 4 adults one child. Got a lovely table .food lovely staff lovely and helpful too. Thanks

Nice place if not too busy, be wary with the cocktails if ordering long island iced tea, it comes premixed and does not taste like it has hardly no alcohol in it, other cocktails mixed and made in front of us did. You could always ask for a freshly made one.

Great bar and atmosphere. Visited on easter day and was surprised at how vibrant the place was. Mixture of all ages enjoying themselves.

We are knocking on the good side of 50 (just) and was great to watch all the youngens enjoying themselves and having a good night. Will definitely add to our wish list when we return to York.

Fab place to drink in the sun. We were lucky enough to get a table next to the open fronted window. Great music just wish the tables were wiped down a bit more.

Went for breakfast and for first time I had eggs benedict and have to say was presented nicely but I did not enjoy it and know would not have it again. My friends had a full English and they enjoyed it. The customer service was good and the staff looked after us.

We went out for a family lunch yesterday. My son is vegetarian and although the menu catered for a few dishes, he ordered the Halloumi and avocado ciabatta. It wasn't overly busy and the wait want to long, but when it arrived, he got Halloumi and lettuce ciabatta, no avocado in sight. We raised this with the staff, to be then brought a small side plate with 4 slices of avocado on it! This should have been re-ordered and made correctly, this so called rectification was not good enough. If something does not meet the expectation, you need to put it right, not bring the missing piece and expect your customer to make do!

I visited with my husband and two boys age 10 and 12. We had lunch here a year ago and enjoyed it so decided to visit it again , well I won't be visiting for a third time. We were asked to move from our table we had chosen as they weren't waiting on that area, they moved us to a small table which was more suitable for 2 people not 4. When the food arrived it was clear the food wouldn't all fit so we asked to move again. The next table was in the back area which had unclean tables. My food a steak sandwich wasn't worth the money the cooked peppers were cold and the steak small and fatty. My son's burger had pickle on even though I asked for it without and even he said it wasn't very nice and he wouldn't want to eat there again. Such a shame as it was lovely the previous visit.

we usually visit this place when on holiday and yesterday was no exception. now I know it's Christmas and I'm not a bah humbug but big groups should be asked to keep the noise down as not fair to others who are after a nice evening out. it was so loud a couple came in found a seat near us we had already bought a drink so had to stay but the wife of the other couple sat down heared the noise got up went to bar and told husband we not staying.

Unfortunately it seems that the slug & lettuce no longer offers good customer service. My family & I came in for dinner tonight, which was over priced poor quality food. Our drinks order was incorrect and the place was very messy. I don’t think we will be back, which is a shame as it used to be a nice family place to go for a meal.

Ordered the steak ciabatta and chicken and bacon ciabatta, the steak was fatty and chewy and the chicken just didn’t taste like real chicken, and the hot drinks we ordered were just warm. Very disappointed

My partner and I went to the slug and Lettuce, York, on New Years Day. The waiting staff were young but very polite and worked extremely hard. I ordered a veggie option, a pasta dish containing peppers, onion, olives and sundried tomatoes priced over £8.00. My partner got steak sandwich with fries. Our food arrived and to be honest my dish was appalling. A small 'dollop' of pasta with 3 olives, 2 strips of pepper and a strip of transparent onion. Missing ingredients causing the dish to look like someone's left overs. My dish went back. I sat with a beer while my partner ate alone. The girls working there were great, but due to age/lack of customer care there was unfortunately no smothing over of the situation. I work in catering myself and I understand that ingredients run low. But also understand the need to remove dishes from the menu if impossible to serve to standard. I sadly will not return to this establishment to dine again.

Came today and asked for the gluten free menu to be given some a4 paper with all of the allergens on. Unfortunately very few of the dishes on offer were gluten free (no idea why the chilli or curry contained gluten, these are my usual fail safes!) and unless I wanted salad I was stuck. So we went elsewhere. I have no understanding why chain restaurants cannot provide the info on a menu like other independent chains. So, if you can’t eat gluten and like a salad, this is for you. Otherwise go to one of the other places in york.

Well food was like warm and I was charged £8:80 for two pints of lemonade and lime when I complained the manager came over and told me I was under charged by nearly £4

The rudest bar staff ever experienced. Our group was sworn at by a blonde behind the bar. Told to leave for singing happy birthday...

If you could give a 0 I would have, bad service, bad staff, I’d say I’d never go again but we were ‘barred from every slug and lettuce’ for absolutely no reason anyway...

If I could give 0 stars I would! I went today, as we waited at the ‘please wait to be seated sign’, two waitresses stood and had a chat for 5-10 minutes, despite the fact one of them looked at me several times. Once we had been seated, after 10 minutes we were not asked if we would like to order food, never mind a drink so my boyfriend had to get up to ask if we could actually order - we should have left then! Once we had our starters the waitress then asked if we were finished, which of course we were. She then brought us the bill despite the fact we had already ordered our mains. After our starter, 20 minutes later no sign of a main. I then asked to speak to the manager who was helpful and reduced our bill. She then said she would also send me some vouchers as my boyfriends burger was over cooked and was not nice. I am still waiting on this voucher but I would only drink here in the future and not eat! I might add, Newcastle slug and lettuce is very good which is my local one!

Came in this afternoon for a lovely meal with my daughter and friend and we sat down and I went to the ladies rooms to then be greeted by the most disgusting state in the toilets, won’t go into much detail, Let’s just say there was “stuff” smeared all over the floor, the toilet and also the sanitary bin. So we got up to leave and then what seemed to have been the manager asked my friend if everything was ok and he said no for then the gent to say “ok then see you later” not wanting to know our reasons for leaving, So I thought I’d informed a lady and this “gent” about what I had seen and they didn’t seem bothered in the slightest at what I was telling them, no apology, nothing. Pretty much turn around and carried on their conversation. Won’t returning again. Had much better service where we are now. I will be posting the photos on trip advisor.
