Smart Societies Institute

The Smart Societies Institute is an independent, non-profit think tank aimed at improving society through the use of science and technology. The Institute envisions a future where science and technology augments and enhances our day-to-day lives to improve the quality of life for everyone in our society. The Institute was established by a small group of academics and industry professionals who were concerned that the government and broader society were ill-informed regarding the potential opportunities and risks associated with rapid scientific and technological advancement. It considers how these advancements may be used to improve society and their consequences and the associated legal, ethical and social ramifications. The Institute conducts research, hosts discussion groups and advises interested bodies in the benefits and dangers associated with scientific and technological innovation.
