Smart Start Preschool

Well done Smart Starters for raising £40.39 for Children in Need with your pennies today. We had lots of fun watching a video about what Children in Need is all about, making and eating Pudsey toast, lots of craft activities, building Pudsey with coins and our treasure hunt outside. Thankyou all xx

Don't forget that tomorrow is Children in Need so make sure the children bring in their coins for the Pudsey coin build and to buy Pudsey toast for snack. We will be having lots of Children in Need activities to take part in. We couldn't do our usual baking and hold our cake sale due to the restrictions at the building but we will still have lots of fun and raise some funds for those who need it more than us.

We have been learning about Remembering. We heard about how people light candles to remember with Mother Alison, learnt about how we wear poppies to remember the soldiers, made our very own poppy wreath and visited the war memorial to deliver our poppy wreath.

It's been a busy and fun week at Preschool including lots of Halloween activities and we are now moving on to bonfire and fireworks and taking a look at why we wear poppies. Have a great weekend everyone.

I do hope you have had a lovely fun filled half term break. We return to Preschool tomorrow for the very busy half term ahead. On Wednesday it will be our Halloween day with lots of fun and activities so don't forget to come all ready in your costumes.

It's the end of another fun half term at Preschool. Thankyou to all the families who have supported the Preschool during this half term. Today we said a sad goodbye to Amanda who has been at the Preschool since it opened its doors. We wish her all the very best for the future. We are now closed for the half term holiday and reopen on Monday 29th October for the very busy half term leading up to Christmas. Have a great half term break.

We always enjoy having visitors at the Preschool. Today the Reverend Alison Harvey came to share a Story Box story with the children and we made Harvest cards to celebrate the food we have to eat.

After all our hard work it is such a shame that the Carnival is now cancelled but in light of the present and predicted weather it may have been a very wet walk!!! Hang onto your costumes though as we hope it will be rescheduled.

We had fun taking part in craft activities today hosted by the White Hart Hotel. Thankyou for inviting us to come and make a mess with you.

Cornwall Council have asked that we share a link to the Childcare Sufficiency survey. Could you please spare a few minutes to complete the survey in order for them to assess the demand families have for accessible early education and childcare places.

Some parents have enquired as to when and how to apply for their child's school place for September 2019. Here is the link to follow in order to apply for 2019 admission.

Apologies once again but another request from the building's management committee which is being instigated as of tomorrow!!! Presumably this means that as 'service users' you are now required to sign in and out of the building when you arrive and leave and again when you pick up from Preschool. I have asked for clarification in light of the fact that the Preschool record arrival and exit of all staff, children and visitors to the setting in line with statutory requirements a...nd will update you as and when I have further information.
"ALL staff, business users, trades people, visitors and service users are to sign in at reception no matter how long or brief they are on site for. This will only exclude postal or equipment delivery personal. They will need to state their name, the date and time they entered the building and when they exited the building. We understand this will be a change in procedure for some, and common practice for others. This is to ensure we are not in breach of fire regulations and are following due diligence. If a member of staff or business user leaves the building for lunch, meeting etc please can you remind them to sign out and back in. It is the responsibility of the main business user to ensure this is done, and there will be will spot checks by the committee. Please could all main business users inform all their visitors, trades people, service users and staff this process will start from 11th Sept 2018.
ALL fire exits must be kept free of items even partially obstructing the exits, and there must be no locked doors between the common areas and any fire exits in the building.
All fire doors in the common areas must be kept shut at all times, this includes the kitchen door and corridor door leading from the kitchen.

Its been a lovely start to the new school year and we have welcomed some of our new children who settled in amazingly well. We've enjoyed the new resources including the exciting new water tray, the new computer and new table top games and picked blackberries, peeled apples and made pies. We have had lots of visits from our big school children, who we miss lots, in their smart new uniforms. Well done everyone on a great first week.

Today I have received a further request from the new management committee at The Orchard. I have been asked to share this information with you which I am now doing.
"We are kindly asking that all tenants and their service users, or clients be respectful in the common areas such as the kitchen, entrance and all corridors during business hours. As you can imagine they will need a calm and quiet environment, along with the other businesses and it is our intention to ensure we... are a considerate and harmonious centre to all business users.
The letting out of the offices is an essential part of the survival of the Centre so we hope you will support us in ensuring noise levels in the corridors is kept to a minimum, that all common areas are kept tidy and free of items other than the chairs or storage provided, all conversations are undertaken within your own office spaces, and that the entrance door and area is free from smokers, groups of people, and conversations of a personal or confidential manner.
If you could let any regular service users or clients know the above expectations we would be most appreciative, as we understand you may not be aware of the levels of noise or conduct from them.

Preschool reopens for the new term tomorrow and we are excited to see you all and hear about the exciting things you have done during the school holidays. We want to wish all our big children, who left at the end of last term, all the best on their first day at their new schools when they start this week. Make sure you send us a photo of you looking smart in your new uniform.

We are currently preparing Preschool for the new term and can't wait to see you all. We do hope you have had a wonderful Summer holiday and continue to enjoy the remaining days of the break. Staff are returning on Monday and the children return on Tuesday of next week. The building has a new management committee which has resulted in some changes being implemented. One of these is that pushchairs/buggies will no longer be able to be left during the day so, as of the beginning of term, please could you ensure you take your buggy with you after dropping off and do not leave it in the hallway. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but it not a decision made by the Preschool. Any further decisions that may impact on you will be discussed as and when they arise. Really good nursery so happy with this place for my son. Just need to find a new way of getting there from ridgegrove as its to much of a walk for my son. Defo recommended !

Debbie and her staff are amazing! My son is in his 2nd year and has completely come out of his shell! He cried the first few times I left him, now he runs in without a goodbye lol! He left his comforter at school today and Debbie went out of her way to make sure we got it back as she knew it was so special to him! You don't get that service in other preschools! Fab team! Xxx

Brilliant pre school. My son has settled in amazingly and absolutely adores going. All the staff are lovely and i love being bought home kodas art work after every session :)

Debbie , you are doing a amasing job. I just could not believe and did not expect that Jessica would settle in this quickly. Also Josh is showing a good improvement in his speech and language skills. Thank you Debbie and all staff memebers.

Both my girls have recently started going to this pre school and I really couldn’t praise it enough.. Debbie and her staff are absolutely amazing and nothing is ever to much trouble � .. Both my girls have settled in really well and enjoy going � ..
