About Smiths Of Smithfield

A Grade II listed building that over the years has evolved to its present-day design of four floors, each offering a unique dining and drinking experience.

Smiths Of Smithfield Description

The number one place for world class steak, breakfasts and craft beer in London, is ‘SMITHS’ of Smithfield.

Established in 2000, ‘SMITHS’ is loved by regular guests and a welcome surprise for first timers. We are delighted to have launched our second Smiths of Smithfield site, Cannon Street.

For 16 years ‘SMITHS’ kitchen has only worked with British farmers and the country’s largest and oldest meat market – the iconic Smithfield Market – just across the road from the original Smithfield site.

Our Cannon Street site continues this tradition, delivering exceptional steaks alongside an extensive menu that will satisfy the taste buds of all its guests.

Each restaurant serves delicious food made from the finest seasonal ingredients, all delivered with a slice of fun and flair by an expertly trained and passionate team. Not to mention, the array of wine and dining choices is perfect for all budgets and tastes.

Went on the steak, chips and glass of Malbec offer for £25 in the Top Floor dining on a Saturday night. Great views, friendly and welcoming staff, service excellent and most importantly absolutely amazing food. We decided to add to the offer and have starters, 2 sides and desserts. Food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. We ordered our steaks medium and they were perfectly cooked. Highly recommend Top Floor. Other floors were quite loud and lively but looked good and have different menus. All the food looks delicious and tempting. I'll definitely be returning to Top Floor whether on an offer or a la carte.

User

Went for the £25 Steak, Chips and Glass of Malbec Deal - absolutely Faultless. Chef got our steaks right Medium Rare and being an Aged Steak, wasn't running loose of blood. Ordered Chunky Chips and all was gorgeous. I asked for a sneek peak of the dessert menu to decide on whether I would want a dessert or a Starter as didn't want 3 courses (because you can add to the deal) so we sweet-talked the Waiter into ordering the Lobster Macaroni Cheese which was a Side Dish, to have as my Starter. Nothing was too much for the staff. Very accommodating and the girls were lovely too. Omg! The Lobster Macaroni Cheese was a very good choice! I'd go back just for that as a lunch dish - absolutely Gorgeous! Compliments to the chef! They never get enough Praise - I'd definately recommend Smiths of Smithfield. Top floor restaurant much more sedate and quieter then the other two floors - exited via the stairway and I wouldn't have been able to eat and hear myself talk to friends there

User

We had the Tomahawk Steak with chips and a bottle of Malbec for 2... It was fantastic I would definitely recommend it we also had mussels and scallops starters and extra sides of mac and cheese, spinach and onion rings. The restaurant was great the service and staff where attentive the atmosphere was buzzing for a Tuesday night we will be returning soon because we didn't have desert because we was stuffed after dinner. Thank You Smiths of Smithfields..👌🏽

Visited 19th December 2017 in a party of five for an end of year supper with colleagues. Ground floor bar was delightfully chaotic and very lively, the dining room on 2nd floor was calm, warm and inviting.

Food was excellent, the smoked trout scotch egg was to die for, my colleagues chose the scallops which were really good. We all had steaks, either rib eye or sirloin. My rib eye was perfectly medium rare, the char was superb. I’ve lived in USA and Canada so have eaten some pretty good steaks, this one was probably the best...

Couldn’t manage a dessert, retires to the bar on 1st floor to get quite merry.

Service was first class, dealt with one of our party making a delayed entrance due to missing a train south from York.

This place will become a regular venue, for both work related and private suppers.

User

Tomahawk steak to share and bottle of wine for two - it is more for four than 2. A very generous portion of a really nice piece of meat.

Staff are super friendly and attentive, the food is amazing and the place is pretty cool - different setup on each floor.

User

Sat out on the roof terrace, great location with excellent service and food that makes you wish you could just keep on eating. Gala pie was perfect complete with jelly a must for pork pie lovers. Amazing rhubarb parfait the perfect finish to a very enjoyable lunch

User

Popped in yesterday and went for the all day breakfast. Didn't need to eat again until the evening. Well cooked, and great portions. I'm the type that sees a buffet as a personal challenge to make sure no food is wasted. But this plate-full was plentiful. Good service too, very attentive. Will go again.

User

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to your staff at the Farringdon branch. I had an excellent experience!! As a Coeliac I had contacted the restaurant before my visit to inform them of my allergies. Staff were extremely knowledgeable, attentive and friendly and went the extra mile to make sure that I could eat safely and didn't miss out. It was arranged for me to have chips from the top floor restaurant as I couldn't eat those from the dining room.

Thank you so much to the whole team! Would definitely recommend to others who also have to eat gluten free (and love meat!).

User

I had dinner with a good friend last night at the Cannon Street restaurant on his recommendation and the fact he a had a ‘groupon’ offer (steak, chips and a bottle of wine).

Well all I can say is that I think I have just eaten the best piece of steak I have ever eaten!

The steak in question was ‘the Tomahawk Steak’, an on the bone rib steak cut from the fore rib and left on the entire bone.

We went with the waiters recommendation of medium rare and when it arrived, beautifully cut into 2cm thick slices with the bone displayed proudly on top it looked mightily impressive & large at what must have been a good kilo (thank heavens I had skipped lunch).

To say like a warm knife through butter is an understatement, the meat was so tender, so succulent and packed with flavour thanks to the care of an obviously skilled chef who knows how important it is to allow all of that lovely marbling to render down.

Coupled with some nicely cooked chips, a side of spinach with a lovely kick of chilli & some macaroni cheese (my friends choice not mine, as I just don’t get this dish) the whole meal was just sublime.

Even the accompanying bottle of wine, an Argentinian Malbec was in harmony with the flavours of this dish.

Now on to the service …. two words, TOP NOTCH, from the maitre d’ down to our waiter, everything was just spot on in every way.

As for the deserts, well after a kilo of meat we thought the better of it although a couple more glasses of wine after the bottle had ended were consumed for digestions sake of course.

So will I be dining here again, you bet on it ‘groupon’ offer or not!

Thanks guys, you all rock!

User

I booked via book a table for 5.30pm; got there early and was told they were not open yet! Brilliant start do We decided to have drink in the bar and wait......

we were booked for 2nd floor dining. Once upstairs Smiths didn't disappoint ! Our waiter was fantastic explaining anything we wanted to ask; he even charged our phones for us. All 3 courses were out of this world and I'm usually quite fussy. Would recommend in a flash and will definitely be going back soon !

User

Had a lovely meal, the starting platter to start with was very tasty. Had the tomahawk steak for main that was succulently cooked to perfection and went down well with an accompanying bottle of Argentinian Malbec!

User

Great place to eat and drink with different floors offering different eating styles including a great cocktail bar.

User

Just went to the craft bar, rather than the restaurant but can highly recommend the cheeseburger on the menu there. As for the beer, an above average selection of beers, but would be better if they had a bit more of a varied selection, including a few stronger ones or some fruit beers.

User

Great look and feel to the place; in trend! Friendly helpful staff and great food with interesting ‘twists’. Will be going again. Worth booking as very busy on the Wednesday evening we went. Oh and just 2 minutes to Farringdon tube/station.

User

Enjoyable late lunch and a good price. Menu wasn't as extensive as I'd have liked but I'd return as its a good location conveniently on the way back to the train station!

User

Went in for brunch at half 11 quite quiet in there. The menu was good and friends I was with had English breakfast which they enjoyed. However I went for the breakfast steak option thinking that the close proximity to the meat market would guarantee a nice steak. Unfortunately this was not the case it was tough and under season and inedible. When the staff did their normal "How was your meal?" Bumph even though I had said about steak nothing was done. No apologising no nothing very disappointing. So have the sausage and not the steak would be my advise

User

Pretty disappointed really!! Been here a few times and has always been good but this time the service was very slow, serving staff disorganised and had to virtually beg to get craft beer from the bar!! When the bill arrived without being requested we knew we had outstayed our welcome, hence the service charge was removed from the bill!!

User

Been having brunch on the ground floor here on a regular basis for years. Used to rate this place 5*. Really disappointed how little choice now available on the menu. Don’t see a return visit anytime soon.
