Welcome back to Smokey Joe’s Jazz Club!
Tonight, we are delighted to welcome the incredible jazz vocalist, Sara Dowling. Lots of our regular audience members have been raving about Sara for some time, and they demanded that we get Sara over to Smokey Joe’s! We listen to what you want, and guess what … Sara is coming! Tonight is the night!
Sara has earned an enviable reputation for her deliciously emotional vocals. Her influences are as far reaching as straight-ahead jazz, Irish folk and Lebanese classical music. In the most stunning of ways, Sara is a jazz singer who presents every lyric with passion and every melody with poise. Her performances, whether singing gorgeous ballads or ripping up swinging standards, are mesmerising. We are delighted to welcome this inspirational jazz vocalist to Smokey Joe’s for what we know will be a night of beautiful and stunning music.
Check out lots of incredible recent review of Sara:
"Enigmatic, beguiling & intensely musical." MOJO MAGAZINE
"A vocalist with timeless quality. 5 stars!" JAZZ JOURNAL
"How soon before it will become normal to think about Sara as one of the best jazz singers this country has?" SEBASTIAN SCOTNEY, EDITOR OF LONDON JAZZ
"Her voice has all the qualities that you will find in the greatest of singers." GUY BARKER
"The jazz world has been waiting a long time for Sara Dowling to come along." NIGEL PRICE, JAZZ GUITARIST
Joining Sara tonight, we have the rhythmical master, Charlie Stratford on drums, and our resident powerhouse of creativity, Paul Jefferies on double bass and Alex Steele on piano. As always, we like to surprise our audiences with inspirational guest musicians, and if you’re lucky, tonight will not be an exception!
Based on the energy of our previous jazz nights at Smokey Joe’s, we know this one’s going to be a corker too! Tell your friends, bring your friends, get tickets while you can! For more information about Smokey Joe’s Jazz Club and to book, go to www.smokeyjoesjazz.club

*Free Entry* Super Cheltenham Bros. is a regular meetup for gaming enthusiasts, focusing on (but not limited to) the retro side of gaming, as well as game development. Hosted by Sam Beddoes of FreakZone Games (a super awesome guy who is definitely awesome and definitely didn't write this about himself honest) and friends, you'll meet with retro game collectors, indie developers, game dev students and maybe even a YouTuber or two, and we'll drink and play great games!
GOT STUF...F TO SHOW? GAMES TO SHARE? Bring your stuff! There are a total of three HDTVs in the bar, and enough table space for you to bring your own monitors, CRTs, laptops etc. if you so wish, so feel free to bring something from your collection to show off and enjoy with others, or just join in on what's already here! Got a 3DS? There's usually some kind of Mario Kart of Monster Hunter game going on too, so why not join in?
JUST WANNA PLAY GAMES, OR EVEN WATCH? Smokey's also have a collection of arcade cabinets, many on free play all night. We also keep a RetroN 5 system in the bar, which plays any Mega Drive, SNES, NES, Game Boy Advance or Game Boy cartridges you might wish to bring along.
NEITHER? There is booze. So that's good. A lot of us just love to chat and have a good drink with like-minded people. It's always a great night, whether busy or 'intimate', and many friendships have been made through our events, so come join in!

‘One of the best hotdogs I’ve had’.

Grace aged 12.

I took my daughter and her 5 friends to Smokey Joes tonight for her birthday tea. Great food, drinks (Coke floats) and impressive desserts.

The coffee is superb and the mac and cheese completely delicious.

Fun atmosphere and the staff were polite, attentive and friendly.

Thank you Smokey Joe’s for giving my daughter the best birthday. 5

We had a work Christmas get together here on a Friday night in December. Everyone had a great time - lovely relaxed and fun atmosphere with good value delicious food and drink. Thank you Smokey Joe’s Team for a fantastic evening!

User

This was my daughter's favourite place a couple of years ago when she was at Uni and we still make it our first port of call when we visit Cheltenham. A lovely, friendly atmosphere and very good food, and very reasonably priced.

User

The staff couldn't do more for us - we were accompanied by an older relative in a wheelchair and they were completely on the ball with ramps to get into the bar, they made a table readily available with lots of space around us. Our drinks order arrived within 5 mins of ordering and the food was superb. A lovely Christmas Eve spent in friendly and professional company, can't wait to return in the New Year. Well done Somkey Joe's.

User

It’s fabulous, fun and lively atmosphere. The staff are always lovely and very attentive. A great place to take the children or just to pop in for some sweet treats and read the paper. I recommend for young and old.

User

It's my favourite place to go back home in Cheltenham when I am not studying at University. Arcade games, pancakes & shakes and gooood music! Everyone is so welcoming and lovely, love it!

User

Great milkshake today! Will be back for breakfast

User

Bang on! Totally retro experience. Awesome fun, great for kids and some good munch as well, especially the ice-cream!! Recommended.

User

Bacon & maple syrup waffle with a malt hot chocolate made for a great brunch & reasonably priced to boot, and the arcade games & pinball helped passed some time post-brunch. Getting hi-scores was another highlight for Mr CJ ...üòÄ

User

As always lovely accommodating service and polite and friendly staff

User

Amazing highly recommend. Food was great, excellent service. Just brilliant! Will definitely be back soon

User

We had a lovely lunch yesterday, Friday 28th October, couldn't fault it or the staff, and the Unicorn Hot Chocolate was to die for, but I'm afraid what let Smokey Joe's down, were the toilets. What a shame they weren't up to the standers of the decor of the Cafe its self, the Cafe is awesome, so much to see, and the toilets, well what a shame. Maybe an update or even a coat of paint. But apart from that, it was such a lovely lunch and would definitely go again.

User

Quirky venue and a very varied menu - thought the unicorn hot chocolate was a cute idea!

But a really long wait for drinks, none of the tables were cleared whilst we were there, it was very messy everywhere with food on the floor. Milkshakes were overly sweet and coffee was not hot.

Staff were clearly busy, but customer service could have been better.

Would go back, maybe it was just a super busy day.......

User

Popped in for a quick hot chocolate, and was offered the special 'unicorn' which we declined since we are vegan, enjoyed a soy hot chocolate which I appreciate was minus the whipped cream and marshmallows, however was surprised that we had to pay an extra .50p per drink for the vegan option? Don't quite understand how it can be more expensive to have a drink which must have been much cheaper to make, paying over £7 for two hot drinks is on a par with London prices, took 20 minutes for drinks to come, table hadn't been cleared from previous customers, service was friendly and table cleared after we had sat down, would I return? Possibly, this is my second visit, really like the setting and it has potential to be a great venue, but some improvement is needed.

User

It's a really great place to look at but the staff let it down. There were about 5 people behind the counter and not one of them acknowledged me, then a quiet little voice said "will someone serve" then a young girl very reluctantly and slowly walked towards me without saying a word just looked at me. I ordered my coffee and cake, it did take sometime before she actually brought it to the table. Real shame the staff come across as being so disengaged with the customers ÔøΩ

User

we were served by a new member of staff who was getting grips with the ropes, very pleasant young lady, food was not bad, nice and hot as was the coffee, but the scrambled eggs could have been a bit more scrambled, but the portion size was ok, it was very busy so had a little bit of a wait. would go back another day just to listen to the great music :-)

User

Not a great visit unfortunately. Took a while to get served although there were 5 or 6 members of staff behind the counter. I ordered 3 different meals and only 1 meal came out as it should. Lots missing from the plates that were stated on the menu. I took one back as I ordered nachos with add chilli but got crisps with a small amount of chilli on top when it came back out with a poor effort made to correct it with no apologies. Over all the staff seem unhappy and unhelpful.

User

Ordered 2 Sandwiches glass of water and fries

Waited 40mins went to ask and told even though order taken and put up they had forgotten about the order. Was given a full refund but doubt will use again

User

Great place to eat and look at , decor wise ... but such slow service and its expensive ! There were around 7 people working there yesterday lunch time and a table actually walked out even after they paid because they were waiting for so long . I don't get what seven people were doing for that whole time? There only seemed to be one young girl waiting tables. Also, the kitchen area / island food prep area was smothered in food and wrappers , which you can see from the till, and just looked so unhygienic. Food being prepped was just left in odd places and most people handling food weren't wearing gloves or washing hands, and they were also going from one food item to another, then to another fridge and then picking up another food item. Not great.
