Snowy Owl Description
The Snowy Owl sits on the site of Plessy North Moor Farm, which was originally part of the estate owned by the Ridley family of Blagdon Hall. When converted to an inn, the building was named The Plessy Farm, though the structure has been rebuilt and restored at least three times since it was originally constructed long before 1600.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

We went here after a walk in Plessey woods with our dog. We managed to sit by the fire, in some big comfy chairs - hard not to doze off! We ordered the Trio of Roasts for 2 which came within 10 minutes of ordering. Every bit of it was delicious! I had messaged the previous evening to ask about whether they were dog friendly and I got an almost instant and friendly response. I look forward to seeing it after the refurb and I hope they expand their dog friendly area :)
Tonight we attended the tasting evening, we werenât disappointed, the food was amazing and couldnât believe how many canapĂ©s were brought out from starters to sharers and deserts, the food was absolutely amazing we will definitely be back, a great little pub with a lovely atmosphere
My wife and I were here last night to sample a variety of dishes from the menu.
Have to say, the food was lovely, the staff very friendly and even the lad singing had a great voice which all made for a lovely evening.
A massive well done to all the staff who I'm sure work so hard.
I'm sure we'll be back to sample more of the lovely food on offer.
My favourite pub , l love it , we usually go teatime on a Sunday as it's not as busy and the Sunday lunch is fab , never disappoints , the staff are always welcoming and friendly , can't wait to see the refurbishment but love the settees and open fires , please don't get rid of those
Lovely meal (highly recommend the burgers, pie and Eaton Mess) in great surroundings with friendly staff. Thank you so much and Thank you for being exceptionally dog friendly, not just dog tolerant
Had my first experience at the Snowy Owl yesterday, very busy on arrival but was nested very quickly by staff; who then arranged a table for 2. From then on, the service & food was second to none, excellent service with even better Sunday Roast dinner & very reasonable priced. Will certainly visit this place in a weekly basis, has become my favourite place to eat
First time we have dined here in many years after a poor experience but I'm pleased we did. I am so impressed! Menu choice was fantastic, reasonable prices, decor and atmosphere were really cosy and pleasant (especially with the crackling fire to welcome you out the cold), service was spot on and the food is just what I look for when eating out...proper home cooked food - nothing mass produced and frozen. Also love that it is a dog friendly place. Would definitely recommend the chicken and thyme pie - very tasty. Takes a lot for me to write a review but this place certainly deserves it and I look forward to dining here in the future.
Went because they had a vegan menu, brilliant that there was a choice of all 3 courses. Only recommendation is maybe ease up on the cous cous a little, there are far more things. However I will be back if the vegan menu is a permanent thing
Had Sunday lunch at the Snowy Owl my partner had the traditional Turkey roast diner which was presented perfectly and looked most appetising which was duly enjoyed. I went for the Steak pie which was a individually made pie in its own dish along with all the vegs it was very nice to have with both meals your own little jug of gravy.
I would recommend this restaurant but on a Sunday you should book a table as I did.. well worth a visit and enjoy.
Steve Winn.
We visit here often so i was absoutley shocked with the service yesterday evening. I came in with my mam and she ordered our meals and deserts together. We got given our meals without cutlery so we had to get up to ask for that. We were not offered any sauces so we had to get up to ask for those. Our meal was finished for 15 minutes and was not cleared nor deserts were brought to our table. So again my mam had to get up and find the waiter to clear our table. Deserts came and were delicious but the wait was far to long. Dissapointed in this service and will be travelling to the badger in future simply for the service.
We have just been with our 2 year old for Sunday lunch. It was lovely. However can I suggest you purchase some extra high-chairs as there was a couple with a younger baby who came in as we were waiting for our food. When our food arrived the mother of the younger baby shouted, purposely loud enough for me to hear, âshe doesnât even need a high-chairâ this was clearly aimed at us. Once my daughter had finished her lunch I made a point of taking the high-chair over. This lady was so irate and angry she then claimed she was making a point about someone else. There were no other high-chair users in the area we were sat in, it was clearly aimed at us. My point is, this lady was clearly stressing out at her son not having a high-chair and their meals coming. Please consider buying some extra high-chairs. I shouldnât be made to feel like a bad person because my daughter still requires a high-chair but this lady also shouldnât be put in a position where she is stressing about how she will eat her meal. It should have been a more enjoyable meal for us and for the other family.
Today I went for dinner with my husband, and we stood at the bar to wait on someone showing us to a table (this is the usual routine as itâs normally waitress service ) we stood for 10 mins and about 5 staff walked passed us as if invisible! I asked if there was someone to check what table we could use (a lot were already reserved) and eventually was told by another member of staff to take a table that was free or not reserved! â we found a table for 6 and sat ourselves down to read the menu! We ordered at the bar (as waitress service no longer available) and I order a turkey dinner and husband had the pie!! Iâm not usually a one for complaining however when my dinner came out the Yorkshire pudding was like a pancake !! Flat and I mean flat!!! (Wish I could attach a photo) so I complained there and then, that it shouldnât have even been served it was that bad !! SHe told me she would ask the kitchen if they had a better one, but never came back!! (So Iâm assuming not). I did eventually speak to the manager who offered us complimentary dessert which was really nice! So all was forgiven! The food and service is generally ok in there but I wonât be going back! I enjoy being served at a table and I look forward to a good Yorkshire pudding and to be fair the Yorkshire puddings are always a little disappointing but todayâs was a total disaster!
Stayed overnight for a getaway break.
We were very impressed with the recent refurb and the room was very cosy.
A couple of things needed attention in the room ; the water pressure and the hard unyielding pillows. One firm and one soft would be a good idea.
The restaurant admittedly was very busy and we had to wait about 30 minutes for the food to arrive which would have been acceptable had the food been of a higher standard. I had the seafood Misto which I can only imagine came out of the freezer into the deep fryer and onto the plate. My wife had fish and chips which she enjoyed.
Having said that, the waitress and the rest of the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
I got the impression that the things hadnât settled down and as yet properly organised due to the re opening.
Reading some of the less flattering food reviews make me think that some attention needs to be focused in the kitchen area.
Another visit is in order later in the year for a re appraisal.
Not a great welcome on arrival- just choose your own table. It was a Long time to wait be served we had to ask a couple of times & took a while for either drinks or food to arrive. Food was lovely . No issues with our meals Disappointing service let it down. Was good & child friendly with a menu & crayons for her to colour in.
Its been a long time since i had been here. It was a Tuesday night and the restaurant wasnât very busy but we seemed to wait along time between our starters and main. I had the fish n chips and found the fish to be quite greasy. The 4 times cooked chips were nice but not alot of them. I wouldnât like to think how long iâd have to wsit for a meal if it was busy.
Waited ages for at the bar to get our table even though we had booked it. Meal was cold, we had almost finished food and still no sign of sauces, my dad ended up going and getting them. Not very many customers in, plenty staff but waiting time was ridiculous. Wonât be returning.
I was in the party of 12 Tuesday night, sit down meal 7pm being a celiac gf I chose a meal I have had before in this restaurant but was told it was no longer on the menu, eventuality I was able to have a rice dish with curry and chicken, which although I enjoyed it there was very little on the plate for the price I had to pay for and the length of time we all had to wait even though there was hardly anyone in. Sorry but will not be back.
Have been here a few times for a meal - this time popped in for dessert and coffee. Dessert was ÂŁ7ish each, excluding coffee so youâd expect something tasty. The pecan pie was definitely not fresh - dry from microwave heating (?) and the crust was utterly nasty (stale). The Eton mess was foamy and no longer chilly (v. odd). Will pass next time as a dessert should always be a yummy treat!
The service is terrible we had to wait 25 mins the other day for a someone to collect the empty plates from our table if our starters and once the main course came out I ordered the trio roast which is supposed to come rapped in bacon with stuffing there was no bacon or stuffing which ruined the dinner for me and for ÂŁ12 it was a terrible dinner 3 tiny piece of meat honestly my son could of finished it who is 5 no problem what so ever we will not be back
