Sofa (Suppliers Of Furniture & Appliances) Description
Sofa is a Registered Charity set up in 1981 to provide low cost furniture to those "in need" with the additional benefit of providing work experience and training for individuals seeking employment. Just as important now is our role in recycling and reuse by making effective use of donated furniture and reducing landfill. Committed volunteers are an essential part of the organisation without out which we would not survive. In return we offer real workplace experience, references, help with CVs and job applications and the possibility of formal training such as NVQs. We also run one-off corporate volunteer days with local businesses.
In the early 1980’s two social workers in Leicester sought donations of furniture to help families in need. They then expanded to operate a ‘Man & Van’ service from Leicester Cattle Market & eventually secured Local Authority funding. Sofa later moved to Loughborough in 2005 and has since expanded to three floors. Based on figures in 2013, we now work with over 50 volunteers each year and strongly promote equal opportunities for those struggling to find employment. We also made over 500 sales to the general public and close to a 1, 000 sales to those referred to us.

When I rented an unfurnished room, a visit to Sofa got me a huge desk and a lovely wooden bedframe (I was desperate not to have a metal one, as they've squeaked in the past), and they delivered it to my house as well! I love an excuse to root around in there, the variety of donations they get mean you're always going to find something good.
Thank you SOFA. I am so glad I was able to donate my quality reusable goods yesterday. Easy parking and a friendly welcome from your team who helped me unload made it an excellent option for me. This project is a very valuable asset to Loughborough and the Charnwood area.
SOFA is an amazing charity... SOFA helped me and friends I have throughout difficult stages of our lives. It's a charity always willing to improve there services in benifit of the most in need within our community.
I've donated furniture in the past and you guys were great at making sure people who were struggling got great stuff. Now I visit to purchase potential Shabby Chic items.
I donated a bed and had it picked up today. The two gentlemen that arrived were friendly and professional. I got a phone call to say they were on the way beforehand as was requested. I work very near to where i live and didn't want to take a day off, hence I requested a phone call in advance of their arrival. I am very pleased with the service I received and will certainly use them again in future.
Got a great desk from SOFA yesterday, Tony and a colleague helped take it apart so I could get it in the car easily too. Thanks for your help - didn't realise you had so many things for sale!!
