- To estimate the proportion of people exposed to a suspected anthrax affected animal(s) / any other suspected anthrax environmental exposure who develop (i) cutaneous anthrax, (ii) gastro-intestinal anthrax, (iii) systemic [severe] illness (including oropharyngeal / meningeal / septicaemia), and (iv) fatal anthrax infections.

- To determine demographic, economic, occupational, behavioral, and nutritional risk factors for developing (i) cutaneous anthrax, (ii) gastro-intestinal anthrax, (iii) systemic [severe] illness, and (iv) fatal anthrax infections.

- Describe the genetic diversity of anthrax organisms isolated from human, animal and environmental samples collected during outbreaks

-To identify Bacillus anthracis from biological samples (nasal turbinate, meat, bone, blood) of slaughtered /dead ruminants, or tissue fluid smears from eyelid of anthrax suspected animals from anthrax outbreak(s) communities for confirming an outbreak

-To identify (individual) animal and farm level risk factors for anthrax infection
