Whilst Debs & Steph finished off their CC/DS courses, Mike & Georgie started theirs. The Frolika team enjoyed a lovely 3 day mile builder down to Poole & back via south side IOW. Along with the usual level 2 & advanced power boat fun, theory courses a plenty and then further mile builders...was this the busiest week of the season so far? It certainly felt it!! Well done all..

Last week saw our first cross channel trip of the season, here’s a brief write up:
Thurs 9th A mid channel forecast of force 7 winds and 3m wave heights meant our 6am start was put back to a more sociable 8am. The crew enjoyed a lovely down wind blast to Langstone harbour for lunch, before popping into Bembridge on the high tide. All in all a useful day, allowing crew and boat familiarisation & an early bed for an early start. 35 nm logged.
... Fri 10th Off the dock at 4am to catch the tide, Cherbourg here we come! The westerly winds lightened giving us a lovely bean reach south of Ventnor for sunrise breakfast. The crew quickly settled into their 3 on 3 off watch system, the crossing was a mix of sail when possible & motor sail to keep up SOG. Cherbourg 1st spotted circa 19:00, berthed by 21:00 for a well earned supper ashore. 17 hours & 74 nm logged
Sat 11th Following a top up of croissants & coffee we had a few hours to explore of Cherbourg. Then fuelled up and off circa 11:00 to take advantage of any westerly in the forecast before the wind went light and north. This proved wise as we enjoyed the perfect sail back. Inspiration loved the 10-15 knot breeze, close hauling at 7-8 knots & just chewed up the miles. The westerly tidal flow gave a Needles entrance as we enjoyed a lovely sunset beef stew approach to the lighthouse. A short night sail through Hirst followed and we picked up a Yarmouth mooring bouy circa 23:30. 12 hours & 75 nm logged
Sun 12th The light winds forecast arrived giving time for a leisurely sail / tidal drift down the eastern Solent, everyone enjoying the sunshine. All moored up back at base for tea & medals by 16:30. 16nm logged giving a trip total of 201 miles.
Many thanks to all the crew: Martin (with), James, Peter, Martine (without), Sandy, Neil & Matt. Our first cross channel trip of the season was an undoubted success and if you like the sound of it there are still a couple of places left on the July 23rd & September 5th trips. Depending on who you asked the actual result of Team Sam v's Paul is still tbc, we're awaiting the decision of the appeal panel ! However what we can confirm is that both crews had a great time close match racing over a couple of days. Whilst conditions didn't allow a full south loop of the island, they could agree that 1-1 seemed a fair result. On top of which congratulations to bosun Russ who was one of our newly qualified power boat instructors. Last week also saw our first cross channel trip of the season on board Inspiration ( write up coming soon), capping another busy week at SBT

So after storm Hannah died down we were left with lovely fresh conditions for our 3 DS/CC courses to play with this week. On top of new nav kit going onto Ecos & Inspiration & the usual mix of shore and water based courses it was another busy week at SBT HQ. Capped all by instructor Tom successfully finishing the 3 Peaks in 24 hours on Sunday! Next week we look forward to team Sam v's Paul racing & our first 4 day offshore cruise of the season.

We started the week in shorts and flip flops and ended it in full offshore gear courtesy of our friend Hannah. However 45 knot winds won’t stop us delivering good quality tuition, it just means we tinker with the structure of the course to fit the rather blowy conditions . Well done to all our Comp Crews, Day Skippers (both power and sail), power boaters ( level 2 & intermediate) and jet ski students who by the looks of things had a fantastic week!

Wow – what a bank holiday treat that was. In a week consisting of 2 CC/DS courses, 4 PB2’s, theory, VHF, PWC jet ski course and day sails, we were then treated to near perfect weekend conditions. The sun cream and hats were out in force and for the first time this season the “marina full” signs were seen in many spots. Yarmouth was packed to bursting by about 4pm! If we could just get a little more wind please for the next long weekend that would be great, thank you weather gods….
