I thought I should post something in the current situation...it's a difficult time for us all. Firstly best wishes and stay safe to all my customers & friends - and indeed everyone else. Solway Dory remains open for business & I'm grateful to my subcontractors and suppliers for their continuing efforts. Levels of stock here are good: e.g. lee-boards, rudders, the 35 Exped Bermudan rig, and the 25 Exped lugsail, are all in stock. Delivery services are operating normally - and ...are not requiring a signiture - the driver will ask for your name and self certify the delivery. I've already had customers bring orders forward - I'm very grateful. So if you do find yourself with time on your hands - perhaps you might consider getting yourself set up for a bit of canoe sailing when things return to normal? I'm most grateful for everyone's business - and of course it's still easy to help with advice etc via email or over the phone - do get in touch. Again best wishes & stay safe Mark Solway Dory

The book of Colin and Davis's epic 1st sailing canoe circumnavigation of Britain is now available. Double congratulations now due, both on completion of the trip, and the publication of the book! At Solway Dory we are proud to have helped in a small way with the fit out of their canoe for sailing. I'm going to order a copy!
1st Solway Dory boat of 2020 is this paddling/sailing Little Egret
Outrigger floats seem to be taking over the workshop today!
We have been having problems with the Solway Dory email address, and with my own email address:
The contact@solwaydory.co.uk address is now working again.
mark.aplin@talk21.com is NOT working
... There is a new email address for me that is working: mark.aplin@yahoo.com
Thanks Mark Solway Dory

Prototype 22 sq foot Expedition Bermudan rig. Small canoe + sail = what can possibly go wrong?
Tim's Solway Dory Quetico launched at the weekend at the OCSG Coniston meet...
Two paddling canoes completed this month. A solo Quetico fitted out with ash gunwales and cherry seats, yoke etc. And a Little Egret, with ally gunwales, and cherry seat, thwarts etc. Both of these are going to Kanocentrum Argen Bloem in the Netherlands.
First hull released from the mould in 2019...Little Egret solo open canoe. Always a slightly tense moment, but popped out nicely after a little gentle encouragement.
First boat launched in 2019 - Quetico open canoe set up for sailing or paddling. The sailing fit out (lee-board thwart, side benches, sailing seat, and mast brace) can be removed for paddling.
The first completed boats of 2019...3nr ash framed coracles! Coracles are something I build a lot of in the Overwater Boats days before I joined Solway Dory, and I helped many more coracle builds on courses, it's been fun building some more.
Stocking up on lee-board thwarts...
Just fitted 35 exped bermudan rig, exped lee-board and thwart, and side air bags to Mad River Explorer. Very wind here, but just enough room to put the mast up in the workshop!
Quetico set up for paddle sailing: with removable side benches; a removable kneeling thwart; and a triangulated mast thwart (again the triangulated brace on the mast thwart is removable. The timber is western red cedar, which is very low density, with unidirectional carbon fibre reinforcing.
Paddling Quetico finished today. This one has a structural thwart set forward of the centre line to give more room in front of the kneeling thwart.
Fulmar sailing canoe launched today on Windermere.
Great to see Ian at Eden Outdoor Adventures has been trying out lee-board on rafting spare + multiple 25 Exped Lugsails set up, I hear Loch Ness threw up wind and waves as usual + lots of exciting sailing but no pictures as steering & bailing keeping everyone occupied!
