Cards, Gifts, Balloons and Thorntons Confectionery

Something Special Kingswinford Description

Welcome to our Facebook page. We hope that our page will provide you with inspiration for lovely gifts and treats for yourself and all of those special people in your life. All of the great products, offers and promotions which you see on our page are available from our Kingswinford store, which is a small family business where we have prided ourselves on excellent customer service and quality products for over 28 years.

We are well established in the local area and consider many of our customers to be friends. They know that they can trust us to provide all of those special touches that you won’t find in most high street stores, like personlisation of cards and balloons, and a luxury gift wrapping service. We want every customer to leave our store having enjoyed their experience, and many of our customers tell us that’s exactly why they come back to us time and time again.

We stock a wide range of high quality cards, gifts and balloons, and we are always aiming to offer new ideas which you might not expect from a smaller independent shop like ours; new customers frequently arrive in store and tell us that they are surprised and amazed by our offering. Our customers come from a wide area as they know that they will always be able to find cards and gifts for those more specific occasions which other retailers do not cater for; many of our customers are no longer local, but will still make a special trip to come and see us, as they know they will receive exceptional service and superior products. Unusual for a small retailer, but as a thank you to all of our loyal customers, we also offer a generous Reward Card Scheme which earns money off to spend on any products in store.

Please feel free to contact us on Facebook if you have questions or queries about any of our products and services, and we look forward to meeting you in store soon!

Best wishes from all at Hallmark-Thornton Kingswinford xx

Continuing our story.........………...…………. Today we enjoy a huge choice of beautiful chocolate Easter eggs but how did this come about? We have the Cadbury's company to thank for this. Back in the 19th century France and Germany were producing small, solid, bitter tasting eggs. Only dark chocolate was available and it was difficult to digest.... In 1866 Cadbury's found a way to reduce the fat content producing a much better and mouldable dark chocolate and the first Easter eggs filled with sugared almonds appeared in 1875. Cadbury's business boomed but it was not until 1905 that the first milk chocolate eggs were introduced. Today eggs come in many forms from the gourmet to the small ubiquitous crème filled variety. Whatever your preference we hope you enjoy the pleasure of a little chocolate this weekend. Take care and stay safe.

Happy Easter to all our lovely customers. We hope you are all safe and well. Do you know why we give chocolate eggs at Eastertime? No, neither did I so I did a bit of research...... The story begins in years gone by when the church forbade the eating of eggs during Lent, the period before Easter. So it became the tradition to decorate the shells of hen's eggs which were laid during Holy Week and give these to children on Easter Sunday as a symbol of rebirth to coincide with the Christian belief that this is the day on which Christ rose from the dead. The Victorians moved this tradition on and took to making cardboard eggs covered in fabric in which they put little treats for the children. So that is how it all began but it's not the whole story...…..you can hear the rest of the story tomorrow!

So it's a bit of a family tradition for Mum to bake a Simnel Cake every Easter. Well as we're not going to be able to get together this year 😢, I thought I'd have a go at making my own for the first time... Who do you think won Star Baker? I don't think you need to look at my cake for too long to see that it's more 'Pancake' than 'Simnel Cake' (even a nice filter on the picture didn't make it look any better) 😂, so I think it's fair to say that this year's prize goes to Mum 😋. What are your Family's Easter traditions, and how are you keeping them going this year?

Although we haven’t yet been asked to close our doors, Mum and I have made the very difficult decision to shut up shop amidst the current Coronavirus crisis; we feel that this is both our moral and social responsibility to protect our team and our customers in such unprecedented times, and to help stop the spread of the virus. Something Special is now CLOSED until further notice. This has been a really emotional decision for us, and these are really tough times, but we feel t...hat this is the right thing to do.
We already have our stock of Easter eggs at the shop and we are in the process of setting up a telephone order and delivery service for these. Please look out for further details on this, and please support us where you can. We will be in touch with everyone who has outstanding balloon orders to arrange either free local delivery or a refund.
Thank you to all of our lovely customers for your loyalty and support during such difficult times; we really do value each and every one of you. Stay safe everyone, we will miss you all, but the whole team at Something Special look forward to welcoming you all back when we all get to the other side of the current craziness.xx

Times are going to be tough for small family businesses like us over the coming weeks, but if you need a card or gift, please think of us before turning to Amazon or another big online retailer.
In a time of so much worry and uncertainty, we wanted to assure you that we are doing everything we can at Something Special to limit the spread of Coronavirus. We have taken careful note of official advice and guidance, and have put some extra measures in place to protect our team a...nd our customers so that we can all carry on with life as usual for as long as possible. When you come into the shop, you will see the team cleaning door handles and counter areas regularly with antibacterial cleaner, the girls are all strictly following NHS guidelines for hand washing, and we have antibacterial gel behind the counter for both staff and customers to use as appropriate (e.g. after handling money).
Come out and support us or one of the other great independent businesses in the village. We would really like to say thank you to all of our lovely customers for all of your continued support ❤️. Take care and stay safe everyone.xx
