Welcome to to the new home of Sonar Media - Solent SUs official media group made up of Radio Sonar, SonarTV, Sonar Magazine and Sonar Film.

Sonar Media is the official student media group of Solent Students' Union in Southampton. Based in the city centre, we are made up of Radio Sonar, SonarTV, Sonar Magazine and Sonar Film.

Radio Sonar

Radio Sonar is an award-winning student radio station, broadcasting 7 days a week, 24 hours a day online and for 2 hours daily weekday evenings on FM in association with Voice FM 103. 9.

In the past we've had the likes of Chapel Club, Johnny Foreigner and NAME come in and do live sessions for us, as well as having chatted with bands such as Bastille, NAME and NAME for our shows.

We've got two studios kitted out with high-end radio equipment following a total refitting over the summer, so whether you want to just give radio a go with your mates, or have dreams of being the next Greg James, Radio Sonar is an amazing way to get involved with student media while at Solent.

SonarTV

SonarTV is the only student-led television station at Solent, and produces a wide range of programming, from live events coverage to in-house studio shows, live music and documentaries.

With SonarTV you have a free pass to be as imaginative, creative and outrageous as you’d like whilst developing skills, and gaining work experience in television production. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to present your own weekly show, film events such as live music and sport, or fancy producing your own regular television series, then we’re the group for you.

Over the past year we've covered all kinds of events from the whole of Freshers Fortnight, to the Graduation Ball and the #Demo2012 marches in London, to One Love Festival. From interviewing Radio 1 DJs, to producing a series of live broadcasts, you name is, we've covered it.

Sonar Magazine

Sonar Magazine is a student-made magazine printed and released around the university, hoping to give readers a variety of up-to-date news and reviews from sports, music and fashion and provide the essential student-community link in Southampton.

In the past, we've interviewed bands such as Alt-J and Hadouken! In each issue we cover everything from new album releases to the latest films, so if you have a passion for writing get in contact!

Sonar Film

Sonar Film is a film society with a difference! We run the on-campus cinema at Southampton Solent University.

Our tickets are just £3, even for 3D films. This doesn’t mean you’ll get a sub-standard cinema experience – we simply charge as little as possible, so that everyone can enjoy the latest films on campus at an affordable price.

The Sonar Film team is made up of current BSc Entertainment Technology students, who run the cinema, and many Sonar Film alumni have gone on to work in the cinema and film industry.

We show films which are still in cinematic release, as well as a few more retro choices! Over the past couple of years, we have shown Tron Legacy, The Inbetweeners, Avatar, Inception, Looper and Iron Man 3.

We even managed to get hold of Star Wars Episode I (3D) and Avengers Assemble (3D) on their UK cinematic release date.
